Lexus has revealed a selection of ten personalized vehicles to tie into next month’s Marvel Cinematic Universe release Eternals.
If you’re not up to speed with the MCU, Eternals follows a group of ten ancient and immortal beings who, after millennia apart, band together to combat an existential threat to Earth caused by two successive uses of the Infinity Gauntlet — in Infinity War and Endgame — on the planet.
The ensemble cast features Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, and Kumail Nanjiani as three of the superpowered eponymous Eternals, who look set to battle their deadly Deviant rivals and the Celestials who created both races, in the film which arrives on November 5.
Of course no modern superhero should be seen without an appropriate ride — except for Spiderman who is apparently doomed to live in poverty — and this is where Lexus steps in.
The ten cars chosen by Lexus for the tie-in are all wrapped in designs appropriate to the characters’ clothing, and have what Lexus describes as a “golden” underglow which represents the shared color theme of the Eternals’ powers.
Hayek will play Ajak, the leader of the Eternals, for which Lexus has chosen the GX SUV. Jolie’s Thena is represented by the LC500 to fit in with her “warrior” role, while Nanjiani gets the purple IS350 for his Kingo character.
Gilgamesh, played by Don Lee, is the strongest and biggest of the Eternals, which very much tallies with the choice of the Lexus LX SUV for his character.
Lexus has also picked the LX for Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos, the team’s tech guru, and the GX for Druig, played by Barry Keoghan, who has mind control powers. The final SUV of the lineup is the NX of Sprite, the team’s smallest member, played by Lia McHugh; perhaps Lexus forgot the CT existed.
As the fastest member of the Eternals, Lauren Ridloff’s Makkari gets the quickest car of the lineup with the RC F Track Edition, Gemma Chan’s Sersi also has an RC F. That just leaves the powerful Ikaris, played by Richard Madden, who’s represented by a similarly powerful LS500 F Sport Concept.
The cars themselves won’t appear in the film, although we can pretty much guarantee a selection of Lexus models in prominent positions and driven by the good guys in some scenes. They will however be used in promotional events including the red carpet premiere.
It’s not the first time Lexus has been front and center for an MCU movie either. The brand’s LC500 played a special role in 2018’s Black Panther, as a highly advanced vehicle created by T’Challa’s sister Shuri, using the latest in technology from the secretive state of Wakanda.
We’ve also seen this kind of promotional tie-in before, with Kia previously creating five vehicles for Aquaman, Batman, Cyborg, Flash, and Green Lantern for SEMA in 2012, as well as a Superman Optima in 2013, and a Justice League Sorento in 2014.
You’ll be able to watch Eternals in cinemas from November 3 in Europe, and November 5 in USA and UK.
