Logitech G27 Appears on Company’s Website

logitech-g27-wheel-shifter

GTPlanet independently verified leaked shots of the new Logitech G27 a while back, but many of you still weren’t convinced.  Earlier this week, however, a VirtualR reader just happened to stumble upon the new wheel at Logitech’s own web site.  He wisely nabbed screenshots while the pages and images were still online to verify his discovery.  Although there doesn’t appear to be any new technical details revealed in the Portugese product description visible in the screenshots, it confirms the exterior design (including the six wheel buttons, thicker wheel, shift light indicators, and the suspiciously absent shift mode selector switch).  It’s becoming more and more likely, however, that the G27 is simply an evolutionary update to the G25, as opposed to a radical new design with lots of additional features.  We’ll keep you updated, of course, as more information is released.

One wird thing though is that last picture on the first site, apparently shows the G25 shifter-module thingy.. The text beside i, is only about the “Hardware and game support”, but it is still a little odd, not using relevant photoes. (Unless it is relevant) ;D

  2. Mr_Hansen

I have just seen that the danish Logitech website still(!) have the G27 shown with all it’s specifications!
    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/playstation_2/wheels/devices/5184&cl=dk,da
(don’t how you see it in other countries :S)
If not, I can tell you that it has real G27 pictures and says something about:

Two motors drive the force-feedback-mechanism with a spiral-shaped gearing: It simulates ….. (Just cormmercial talk).

    Tachometer/gearshifting-indicator: ….. In supported games.

16 programable buttons and direction key(?): …..

    900° ratation: …..

Super accurate optical coding: The movement-sensor ensures that every little movement of the wheel becomes reflected in the game, without deadzones or delays. (Now that is interesting!)

After that, it is pretty much the normal G25 things about wheel size and pedals, but they only mention the 6-speed manuel gearbox. Nothing about sekventiel shifting…
In the end, you can read:
Hardware and game support: Works with racing games PC, PlayStation ® 2 and PLAYSTATION ® 3, including the Gran Turismo ® 5 Prologue
    Plus:

    System Requirements
    PC with Windows
    ■ Windows ® XP or Windows Vista ®
    ■ 20 MB hard disk space
    ■ CD-ROM drive
    ■ USB port

    PlayStation ® 2 or PLAYSTATION ® 3
    ■ PlayStation ® 2
    ■ PLAYSTATION ® 3
    ■ Games that support Logitech ® steering wheel with force feedback

    The box contains
    ■ Logitech ® G27 Racing Wheel
    ■ Accelerator, brake and clutch
    ■ gear shift
    ■ adapter to the mains
    ■ CD-ROM with software
    ■ Documentation
    ■ 2-year limited hardware warranty

m$ is not smart…Sony does. PS 1: CD 800MB space, PS2: DVD 4,5 GB, PS3: Bluray single 25 GB, double 50 GB. why choose HD DVD when bluray is almost 3 time that much or 6 times?!?!?!?!?.

@ Xanavi: “because” its with A not O, well…where not from england or the US I asume…

Forza is painting cars not pretty…it’s cheap looking
    GT5P, that’s a true of ART

  4. Black Chamber

It’s real and the U.S. wing of Logitech confirmed this – they also said to look for it in September. :sly:

  5. SVTuner

sorry to break it to ya guys but this is a fake

i showed this to a guy i know (works at the belgian wing of logitech)
told me there isn’t a G27 metioned in the lists of products in developement or release for 2009/2010
but he did mention something similar is coming , somthing that will put the G25 in the shade.

(wich is bad news for me i’m a smug owner of a G25 ;)

I tranlated what text there was on the Portuguese scree-grab.

    Enjoy:

i´m gonna for the fanatec because it support the xbox 360. and because there are things that forca has and gran turismo hasn´t. well…3 system´s (PS3, PC, Xbox 360), 1 wheel…that the spirit!!:D

i’m gonna be a gran turismo fan!! because the cars and environment looks so much better!!!!! have you seen by forca the rocks on the side of the tracks:(:(…they just ugly!! and that is just one thing I don’t like. the cars on forca are nice but NOT beautiful like gran turismo.

  8. Drty

Seems like this is just a disapointment. The only way I would upgrad to this is if it were xbox360 compatible. I really don’t see that happenng though. I was really hoping logitech would step up their game and put out a more comparable wheel to the fanatec wheel. If they can make a wheel that is multi-platform, why can’t logitech….

I know the answer…. M$ wants too much $$$$. But it just posses me off.

  9. DaveTheStalker

Coming from someone that already has a G25 and was greatly anticipating this wheel, it’s pretty lame IMHO. The ONLY improvement I see are more buttons on the wheel….oh boy :( I may actually downgrade to a DFGT for GT5.

I want all the dials and stuff that the DFGT has, not more buttons. You still won’t be able to use real time adjustments without taking your hand off the wheel.

The extra 4 buttons can be used for Look Back, E-brake, View Change (not even all that important to have at finger tips), and X to hit START. The shift lights is useless, how many of you look at your wheel when driving? The shift lights need to be on the screen!

I see no reason to plop down another $200 – $300 for this “upgrade”. We’ll see about it when we have more details.

  10. somestrangesin

gt4ever: its called modifications you can put a real steering wheel on the logitech g25 you can modify a lot of things you mentioned.

as to the wheel. im going to have to see the specifications and reviews and the price for the g27 one whether i get that or a g25. i really think they screwed up not making a handbrake for the g27.

  11. Rikard

What a disappointment. thought I would see a radical new design. I already have a G25 and there are some problems I would like to see fixed. For example: to many wires, it´s a hell to plug the wheel with all these wires and second: the shifter it should be some resistance when you change gear and make the sequal shifting mode better so you don´t by accident push down the stick to the 4th gear in H Mode. And the wheel should be bigger.

  12. JohnnyGundam

hmmmmmm okay this could be possible

oh and dont forget 18.8.09 is the gamescom ….. let`s hope we get what we want from sony and pd ……

  13. JohnnyGundam

okay dudes this must be a fake i was on the logitech site on english german on brazil und portugese but there where NO g27 ……

    look
    german—> http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/pc_gaming/wheels/&cl=de,de

    brazil—->http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/pc_gaming/wheels/&cl=br,pt

okay i could cope and past the other langauges but i think these two is enough ^^

so i didnt found a g27 on the logitech site so…..FAKE

sad ….looks nice this wheel….. maybe we could get it with gt5 in a package

  14. Mike M

The reason the wheels are usually smaller than IRL (btw, you can get small(er) wheels from Sparco, Momo etc. usually for racing) is usually because the motor for the FFB can’t handle a lot of torque. The bigger the wheel, the stronger the motor has to be (and more expensive). If you want the best FFB wheel, look for Flexwheel which allows you to use any aftermarket wheel regardless of size with it. Of course the setup will cost you US$2000 and that doesn’t come completely assembled and you only the the shifter with it and have to pay extra for the pedals.

  15. GT4Ever

I don’t have a steering wheel any more (previous one is broken) so i need a new one. But as long as logitech cant make anything more “real” i wont be buying anything new. Why does those racing wheel set always look like they are made for midgets? Cant they just fit a normal full size car wheel, gear leaver, and pedals? And use some real high quality materials so the gear leaver wont make a plastic kinda clicking sound and feel like its hanging all loose without any resistance.
I’ll just wait with buying a new wheel till some company releases something that does feel like a real car.

  16. Tiddy

Ill keep my G25 thanks. That is unless there are some real radical updates like better force feedback and stiffer pedals and h pattern, Im concerned about the lack of sequential shifting and it really doesn’t look any different to the G25 apart from that and the addition of the buttons and shifter lights. Also why are people bashing GT in these comments, im confused.

  17. MarcoM

@Schmo, if you know how the current switching mechanism works in the G25, you would know that it is not possible to be just operated by a simple switch somewhere on the thing. But hey, time will tell ;)

  18. info

personally spoke to a logitech rep today and confirmed the G27 as coming soon *september* and the said it IS just an updated G25 and it will retail for approx. the same price the g25 currently retails at

  19. Zmann42087

I already have a Logitech G25 and I don’t think I can justify spending the money for a G27. Looks too close to what I already have. Nothing really “new”… just a rehash of what I already have.

  20. kayslay

Well i tell you what, since i just came from the horse track and hit a trifecta that paid $1,118.90 think im definitly going to get this wheel and a new HDTV! :)

  21. MJRTM

You’re right, Alan – there’s nothing wrong with a “duel shock” at all. Aside from the fact that it’s nowhere near as fun or as immersive as playing the game with a wheel, of course.

  22. Jack_uk

Even though I’m sure this will grab more popularity than the g25, I will still buy the G25 because:
    1.It will have a price drop,surely.
2.The g27 barely looks different from the G25 and will probably feel like the G25.

The only thing that would make me choose the G27 over the G25 is a better wheel performance wise, like the shifter resistance of the gear box and a fix for the dreadful sound made from the wheel when its turned. For this I might as well just use mods for a G25. The only thing I would like is a handbrake to be included. This and the above would make me buy a G27 over a G25.

  23. Alan

@ MJRTM, Just think that everyone gets sucked into these marketing gimmicks and get fooled into thinking that this new product will turn them into the Michael Schumacher of the GT world, just saying theres nothing wrong with a basic duel shock

  24. MJRTM

Gee, I don’t know, Alan…maybe it’s because this lump of plastic is a peripheral that lets you play your favorite driving game like you are driving a real car, instead of with a controller?

  25. tel151

I thought there was going to be force feed back on the pedals?

Vibration motor on brake pedal to indicate blocking tires

  26. Tiberius_85

    Look at the 2nd picture:

    – The edge of the wheel looks not smooth enough, too clear
    – Background color different
    – no PN-Number

I would say this looks strange, maybe indicators for a fake.

  27. Anthony

When we first heard about the wheel, it was because a developer for Dirt 2 was posting a list of compatible wheels with codemaster’s next racing/rally simulator forgot to remove the G27 from the list. Remember that Dirt 2 will be released on September 8th so the wheel is not so far away.

  28. rebla47

Ok… the same fake pictures inserted in a porutguese Logitech web page… This web site is “Fake & Rumor Planet” (or how to keep afloat a GT web without GT news… ).

  29. Schmo

All I can is hot damn. Finally. @ MarcoM, whos to say the logictech by the shifter isnt a button to switch to sequential?

Now the real question is, if you havent bought a g25 yet (like me) do you pick up the G27 or get the G25 more then likely at a discount?

  30. MarcoM

Apart from the shifter ligths there is not much new stuff. And even these shifter ligths may not even work in GT5. I mean, there’s got to be some kind of mapping done for all cars.

The missing switch on the shifter is a step back. Sometimes you want your race pod to resemble a real car that has a sequential shifter.

  31. occasionalracer

Something about it doesn’t look good, I think it’s the 6 buttons and the straight cut design of the wheel spokes. What matters most though are the internals of this thing and I wonder if there are any major changes to the gearbox, pedals and the motors inside the wheel. I hope the is an even better feel to everything, if not then there’s no point in upgrading. Sometimes companies just like to change a products look, so they can charge more for their “new” product.
