Lucas Ordóñez is set to return and race in the Blancpain GT Series, following an announcement on the official GT website. The Spaniard will drive for Team RJN Nissan, getting the chance to reprise his driver’s position to pilot the GT-R NISMO GT3 against harsh competition from the world’s leading supercar manufacturers.
After representing the team in the 2016 season, Ordóñez and his fellow drivers managed to guide the team to a 7th place overall finish. The Blancpain series includes participants from the likes of Bentley, Audi and McLaren which means Nissan always has their hands full fighting for race victories. Ordóñez will be joined this season by Alex Buncombe and Katsumasa Chiyo, all three drivers will be hoping to make an immediate impact when the series starts in April.
The news of the latest challenge for the 2008 GT Academy champion comes hot-on-the-heels of Jann Mardenborough’s announcement that he will be participating in the 2017 Super GT series. The British driver will be driving the iconic Calsonic GT-R and marks a huge step up in his career, competing in the GT500 class of Japan’s finest racing series.
The legacy of GT Academy lives on, Lucas and Jann are only 2 of the winners from the programme which sees every graduate in an active racing series this year. Keep an eye on GTPlanet for more news in the Blancpain series, we’ll be reporting on each race weekend beginning with Monza during the weekend of April 22-23.
Good luck to Lucas Ordóñez and the team this season in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup!
