With the British Grand Prix just days away, Codemasters has released the latest F1 2017 video. The clip shows Red Bull’s Max Verstappen lapping the shorter “International” layout of Silverstone.
The International layout at Silverstone bypasses the back half of the Grand Prix circuit. After the tight right of Village, the track cuts right over to Becketts and onto the Hangar Straight. This layout is one of four short versions Codemasters is including in F1 2017. This is in addition to the 20 circuits that are all part of this year’s calendar.
Codemasters has confirmed that all 24 tracks will be available to drive with all cars in the game, both modern and classic.
Being an F1 driver, Verstappen wastes no time getting to grips with his current ride, the RB13. The 19-year-old Red Bull driver says the car feels more planted than last year’s model. Despite this, it isn’t a doddle to drive, being a slightly heavier and a more physical experience.
After setting a fast lap in the modern ride, Verstappen straps into the RB6, a car Codemasters recently announced for the game. It’s a car the young Dutchman never got a chance to drive in when it was competing, but he’s quick to point out the differences between the two:
“The 2017 RB13 feels really good in the game, with the extra grip, from the new 2017 car designs as well as from the wider tyres, resulting in faster cornering speeds which require more precision. In comparison, the classic RB6 is lighter, with a slower top speed, and later braking, and of course the biggest stand out being the sound of the engine.”
Verstappen is no stranger to the world of sim racing. Indeed, he has been a member of Team RedLine for nearly two years. Given his experience in the digital realm as well as the physical one, it’s encouraging to hear his positive feedback.
F1 2017 is just over a month away from release. It launches August 25 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam).
