If you’re keeping tabs on the Virtual Reality space within the sim genre, you’ll probably know the name Marcel Pfister. The racing enthusiast has created some great mixed reality videos in the past including a tour around DiRT Rally’s snowy Sweden and Assetto Corsa’s Green Hell. The newest of these videos center around Kunos Simulazioni’s racing title once more, this time taking the Porsche 911 Carrera S for a spin around Italy’s Vallelunga circuit.
For those who are perhaps not totally familiar with Marcel’s work, the ‘Mixed Reality’ approach is achieved by overlaying two videos of footage; one from the game being shown and one from real-life. He keeps both sets of footage as equal as possible, even right down to the cars he overtakes and the way he approaches corners.
During the course of the video, audio is switched between one piece of footage and the other to show how close the title is to sounding like the real thing. In-game video is also captured from within the cockpit.
This video makes use of the Porsche DLC offering from Kunos by comparing Assetto Corsa’s Carrera S to his own real-life drive of the Vallelunga circuit he got to experience at the AC DLC launch event in 2016. It’s a great watch and shows how under the right circumstances, the extensive driving simulator really can nail the feeling of track driving.
Give it a watch and why not subscribe to Marcel for his continued efforts at showing off how Virtual Reality can enhance sim racing for the masses? It certainly does a good job of showing how close titles like Assetto Corsa are getting to offering a true driving experience.
Thanks to Marcel for another Mixed Reality offering!
