When GT6 update 1.14 landed a few weeks ago, a seemingly minor new feature was added to the game: MoTeC i2 Data Analysis software compatibility. It didn’t get as much attention compared to the flashy new community features or new cars, but as our members have discovered, it’s a fascinating new tool that offers that offers deep insight into your driving.
MoTeC is an automotive technology company, which specializes in electronics and software for data acquisition and analysis. Their products are utilized extensively in the world of professional motorsports by drivers and engineers, and now all Gran Turismo players get to analyze their driving and tuning setups in the same level of detail. It’s free and easy to use.
Here’s how it works:
- Save your GT6 replay, then view it in the Replay Gallery. Once there, find the replay you want to analyze, and select “Export Data for MoTeC i2 Pro”. Save it onto a USB stick plugged in to your PS3 console.
- Download MoTeC i2 Pro (free, 18MB, Windows only) from MoTeC’s website and install it.
- Plug the USB stick into your PC and load the i2 Pro data file generated by GT6.
Once your data is loaded, you can start taking a much closer look at your driving with a wide range of graphs, track maps, configurable gauges, data overlays, and automated video synchronization. GTPlanet member @GTP_Ezza75 has put together a video showing a sample of what’s possible with the i2 software, via this lap of the Nurburgring Nordschleife:
More about the i2 software is available on the MoTeC website. They also provide an extensive library of free webinar videos which demonstrate how to use the various features.
Needless to say, this will be a valuable tool for serious Gran Turismo players in the future, and should be especially useful for GT Academy competitors next year. Check out this extensive discussion of MoTeC i2 software here in our forums for more information.
Now can we get a Dyno tester in the game please?
Good Lord that car/tire sound combination is so annoying. 30 seconds of that and it has me wishing for PD not to update the sounds at all!
Am I the only person fascinated with GT6 running at a steady 60FPS….. Thanks youtube xD
It’s a start. Things move SO SLOW in the PD World.
By the way, a massive thank you to ALL of the tuners, who make the effort and take the time tuning car’s, so people like me can race. Without these men and woman, many of us would never win a race.
The information GTP gives us all is fantastic. My biggest concern about GT6 is this. When GT6 came out, a few month’s later, they stopped updating GT5, then they stopped the seasonal event’s, until finally dumping it. My concern is, by the time all of these new car’s are actually available to everyone, GT7 will be on it’s way. Are we then going to end up with another gt6 full of car’s, but nobody to race against? Also, what happened to the car’s that the player was going to be able to build themselves?
Yes. It’s a way to force people into buying the new system/game more quickly. Withdraw the support of the old game and you have nowhere to play but alone and offline. Don’t think “build your own car” has ever been a feature hinted at by PD.
Pc only…
Awesome,…..now if only they could get the PSN to work without booting half of Australia in and out they will be moving in the right direction !
What if we still had the top gear license, we could see how the stig driver around the test track
Interesting but quite worthless since, the driver, needs to know how tires, suspensions behave, to understand how to adjust to the best the setup…
How was the in race video obtained? I have oft thought of capturing some of my PS3 antics just to see how and where I cocked up.
At least this app helps. Noticed whilst doing the 10 laps at Silverstone, my first 5 laps where all over the place, but after I pitted I seem to have found my groove.
Still finished 5th. Untuned Z4.
You got to capture video separately (PS3>capture device ((( ) , then you can load a video file in M i2 video module and add it to analysis screen as shown.
Figured as much. Would be nice if there was a way to render from the replay information though.
Great tool. Now if PD could fix their unrealistic top speed and high-speed acceleration problem, this would be perfect.
They’ve been trying to fix it for a long time :D seems like every patch the top speeds of cars change. :D (pre patch 220. Patch. 165 post patch patch 195 (target speed 185) lol
Also There is no data regarding Tires, suspension..etc, so we are still far away from a real similution.
@sk8er913 no, they did not fix anything since day one. Not a single km/h change for same cars (stock, street cars not racing versions).
