If you’re into racing, well, this weekend really isn’t your sort of weekend. Most any other time of the year you could turn on the TV (or YouTube) and find a plethora of racing. Not so much right now, though.
Nonetheless, this weekend the main courses up for viewing are MotoGP and Red Bull Global Rallycross. Both series provide great racing so this is a good weekend to try something different if you don’t normally watch.
MotoGP Round 13: Misano
Coming into this round Andrea Dovizioso has taken over the points lead from Marc Marquez. In round 12 at Silverstone, Dovizioso won the race while Marquez failed to classify. With seven laps remaining, Marquez’s Honda engine smoked up and died. This tightened the championship between the pair to only nine points in favor of Dovizioso.
In Practice 2 for this round at Misano, Marquez went down but was unhurt and the bike relatively undamaged. Despite the fall, Marquez remained committed. “Tomorrow we need to try the tyres because this afternoon I did more laps with the softer rear,” he stated on the official site. “So tomorrow maybe it’s time to try the hard compound like the others and compare well.”
Meanwhile, points leader Dovizioso was only one tenth off the fastest time in Practice 3. “We had less grip than in the test and we had to adapt the setup and the electronics to today’s conditions, but I’m quite happy; happy about the speed but I know it will not be enough.”
To watch the race you can turn on a television at 12:00 UTC (14:00 local) and find it just about anywhere in the world. You can also pay to watch the stream directly from motogp.com.
Red Bull Global Rallycross: Seattle Rounds 10 and 11
At the last round of the Global Rallycross championship Scott Speed was incredibly fast. He set the fastest qualifying time, came second in his heat race after a bit of a hiccup, and then won the Saturday final. Come Sunday Speed had wrapped over his mistakes and won everything on the day.
Entering this weekend’s double-header Scott Speed has the potential to pretty much wrap up the driver’s championship. He currently holds a 38 point lead over Steve Arpin who is closely followed by Tanner Foust, a mere three points back of Arpin. If Speed has another perfect weekend he would head into the final round in Los Angeles needing to finish 2nd in both heats.
To watch the finals of each day NBC will carry the races at 20:30 UTC (13:30 local). If you can’t watch, and manage to avoid the internet spoiling things, GRC generally upload broadcasts to YouTube a few days later.
