The latest update for Need for Speed Unbound, Volume 5, has been revealed, bringing with it a new set of Speed Pass events, new challenges and events, new free cars, and more paid content packs as the game approaches its first anniversary.
There’s a pair of new vehicles available to all players, once again coming through the completion of a specific challenge and for hitting level 50 (out of 75) of the Speed Pass. In both cases, these are rear-wheel drive monsters, perfect for sliding about.
Reaching rank 50 will earn you the classic Buick GNX, and the Speed Pass this update is littered with “wild retro kaleidoscopic cosmetics and customizations” for your car and avatar. Scoring 25 near misses while being involved in a cop chase driving any BMW model will unlock the BMW M2.
Meanwhile EA Play subscribers get to pick up a third car for free, in the shape of the “Epic Custom” Mercury Cougar.
There’s more than 60 new Daily, Weekly, and One-Shot Challenges available in the update too, along with the return of all 14 Linkup events — which see players working cooperatively on a variety of goals within a certain zone — from Volume 3 and Volume 4, though no new ones this time round.
However there are three new paid DLC packs to pick up, with some fresh custom vehicles and unique cosmetics — and a spooky theme.
That starts with the $14.99 “Trick or Treat Swag Pack”, which includes the Legendary Custom MINI Countryman JCW along with a selection of customization items including a skeleton mask and designs based on the “rubber hose style” of cartoon animation — recently revived in Cuphead.
At $9.99 there’s a pack based on the Legendary Custom Volkswagen Beetle, which also comes with a ten-level Speed Pass boost. This will rank you up ten levels in Speed Pass (up to the maximum of 75) no matter when you purchase it.
Finally there’s the $5.99 Customs Pack, which adds three custom build cars: the BMW i8, Chevrolet Corvette C7 GS, and Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe.
The Volume 5 events will all begin on Thursday October 12, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, and PC.
