Nissan is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its in-house tuning, motorsports, and performance arm “NISMO”, with a special exhibition in Japan over the next month.
The exhibition is available through to October 15 2024, in the gallery area at the Nissan Global Headquarters in Yokohama, and features some of the most famous road and race cars from Nissan’s 40-year history.
That includes more than a handful of vehicles that are beloved of Gran Turismo fans, like the NISMO 400R. This high-performance variant of the R33-generation Nissan Skyline GT-R is one of the rarest Skylines out there, with only 44 made. The display therefore represents 2% of the entire production run!
Unlike the 400R, which made its way into Gran Turismo 7 in the Spec II update in November 2023, the S14 Silvia-based 270R has yet to appear in the current era. Even more rare, with only 30 vehicles produced, the 270R last featured in Gran Turismo 6.
There’s also a range of race cars, from Group A era Calsonic Skyline GT-R JTCC car through to a modern Formula E racer. That includes the Nissan R390 GT1 which scored the brand’s best ever finish at Le Mans — itself yet to make the jump from Gran Turismo 6 to Gran Turismo 7 — as well as modern Super GT cars and the R91CP that won the 24 Hours of Daytona.
NISMO will also be displaying some of its current vehicles, based on existing Nissan models, such as the Ariya, Aura, and Fairlady Z machines. The all-electric Ariya is second only to the R35 generation GT-R NISMO in terms of power, packing 430hp — just ahead of the 420hp Fairlady Z.
Further activities around the 40th anniversary — which is actually today, September 17 — are also planned for later in the year at the annual NISMO Festival. This will take place at Fuji International Speedway on December 1 and will, of course, be dedicated to the milestone.
