No More “Experience Points” in Gran Turismo 6

all_25_cars

In an interview with GameInformer, Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that Gran Turismo 5’s controversial “Experience Points” or “XP” system will not exist in Gran Turismo 6.

GI: “Will progress online carry over to your single-player campaign in any way?”

KY: “The experience system doesn’t exist in GT6, but that system where you still receive some sort of reward for online racing is probably still going to be there.”

Kazunori also offered a curiously coy response when asked about a return of Tourist Trophy, stating he “can’t say no”, refusing to completely rule out the possibility.

lounge_main_englishWhile speaking about the new online racing features of GT6, he announced “we [Polyphony Digital] are going to start online championships, and some of those will be official championships and some of those will be the championships organized by community managers.”

Finally, Kazunori made his first mention of Gran Turismo 7 on the PlayStation 4, stating that his team at Polyphony Digital will once again seek to get the most of the hardware.

Check out GameInformer’s full interview for more details, and don’t miss his other interesting comments made during his GT6 presentation at Gamescom.

I got GT5 at launch, played it to 100% completion, read every article here and probably thousands of posts on the forums, and this is the very first time I’ve heard anyone say the XP system was “controversial”. Really makes me wonder…

  2. Joshy195

With the licenses thing they should still have S, A, B etc. licenses but make it more of a challenge like the GT Acadamy events do or even exactly like the GT Acadeny events are. :)

  3. PS3GamerSyKe

sounds like the only ones that didn’t like the XP system were the ones not willing to grind. Lazy even in gaming. I got to level 40 before online bonus implementation. XP system should have been back. gave a good reason other than credits and used car store rotation to play and keep playing. Was fun while it lasted. hell yea I’d do it all over again. most of that was Nurburgring XP.

    1. infamousphil

I didn’t see the XP system as a “grind.” Made lvl 40 before I knew it. Think it was 27 that actually cleared everything and kept thinking it should have continued through 41, 42 and so on. Those notification screens after each race became like a “whatever… ” Same as credits after 20mil.

Nurburg and la Sarthe were my favs, especially with the headlights on at dawn and sunset ;)

    2. MuoNiuLa

There shouldn’t be XP grinding period. GT is racing game, not a darn RPG. Before seasonals were put in, you had to constantly repeat events in some fashion in order to level up. This is not fun gameplay. It wouldn’t have been much of a problem if there were a large number of events in the game to begin with. Another reason people hated the XP system was because it stopped people from owning cars, even if they had the money and also locked them out of events. It’s a stupid barricade and good riddance to it.

    3. sayba2th

I have to back MuoNiuLa here, I have been playing GT since 98 and think that unfortunately it became a grind in the end.
Maybe as alternative to XP races could be grouped into championships like we already have with maybe 10 races for eg and you get points for position achieved the higher the finish the more points gained and you need to finish top 3 or win to move on to the next level. Can be done by starting with go karts or lightweights or similar and as you progress the cars used increase in difficulty / power as does the AI. Yes this formula has been used before in other car / racing games but it can be varied upon.

  4. Stumps_GTI

So pleased about them dropping the XP system. :)

I can only echo what most are saying and truly hope PD prop up the license tests to make them more appreciable.
As someone mentioned (HuskyGT ?), the licenses in GT5 were indeed, pointless!

Funny as it may appear, this was a factor I badly over looked when I first fired up GT5. DOH!
I just loaded and proceeded to the license tests, as I had done for the 4 games before……only to find out a little later, that you could virtually get through the whole game without ever bothering with them. :( Oh well.

And grinding…..that got too tedious after a very short time for me. :(
Bring it on Kaz and don’t spare the horses…..December 6th won’t be here soon enough!

  5. Smoke&Slide

    I’d love if Kaz and his team made a licenced motorcycle game with licenced riders of different eras with bikes from different eras.These are the list of tracks i’d like to see;;

    IOM TT circuit
    Northwest 200 in Ireland
Australian TT ( Bathurst track )
    Ulster GP circuit
Plus any other tracks you can include
    Plus new fictional tracks too

    Here are a list of licenced races you could include Kaz;

    Manx GP
    IOM TT
    Ulster GP
    Northwest 200

They are the four i can think of, if there is anymore please shout up.

  6. sibbystiggy

New tracks, more cars and physics are expected in every new gt game but these are some basic things that really change the core experience that I want in gt6:
-time difference of the gap between you can car in front
    -speed up b-spec races
-Drive along with your b-spec drivers in endurance races
-use your b-spec drivers in online lobbies to help gain experience and fill up space (like Ais in f1)
-oil change and engine tuning and all other tuning in garage and in pits
-the map ui like in gt4 and 3 to return
    -more and harder a-spec events

    1. ScotteDawg

-oil change and engine tuning and all other tuning SHOULD BE ALLOWED IN ONLINE ROOMS
-every offline race should have 16 (or more) on track at a time
-seasonal events should have AT LEAST 16 on track

  7. zebrat

My issue is this, why is it that with such a huge NASCAR following on the US SERVES,
why didn’t polyphony include a NASCAR in the Gamestop 15th Anniversary CAR PACK,
why not show NACAR some love?

    1. sibbystiggy

Gt custom nascar with anniversary liveries would be nice!

I was expecting to see more of nascar but I guess gt5 introduced nascars and gt6 is introducing gt3 or somin

  8. infamousphil

What I would really like to see them do is use the licensing system to regulate which races the players can enter, on and off line. Qualifying for a race and degrading a license level for infractions are good ideas too ;)

    1. Rionmoon

      I so hope you’re kidding.

If you are that’s funny…like a broken arm.

If you’re not joking, that’s the LAST thing GT6 needs.

Some of us have been playing the GT series the whole 15 years…since day one and don’t want to prove worth or ability or anything yet again. It’s stupid, pointless and idiotic.

GT is a constant system of pass or fail: you can either win or you can’t and if you can’t either give up and sell your game or perceiver and get better.

    2. infamousphil

Me too, Rionmoon. Since day one, I’ve been a fan of GT.

However, what’s the point of using a licensing system if not to recognize acceptable performance? Yup, I am serious. But doubt it’ll happen because there’s so many other issues that needs attention. Just an op of mine ;)

    3. HuskyGT

As a GT fan since the first game, I must say license tests are essential for the GT series. I do wish they would make them much more interesting by adding some sort of restrictions like the ones you mention; could make the game much more interesting.

If not, then at least they should return to the well known system that GT1 through GT4 had. GT5 license tests were indeed pointless, which was a shame. I’ve always loved them and it’s the first thing I can’t wait to do every time I get a new GT game. I hope they return the meaning to License tests in GT6.

    4. sibbystiggy

Xp has failed and I’m glad to see pd have taken note, xp doesn’t show how skillful a player is but licences do, ive learnt alot from doing them in gt4, but I gt5 I may have completed them but they weren’t a challenge and nor an indication of what I’m like as a driver to others,

This feature stands out from most games, pd need to improve it and bring it back!

    5. ScotteDawg

I’ve been on the GT series since ’97 and I have always enjoyed the licence tests!
Admittedly, when GT3 rolled around, I was initially annoyed that the licence tests were there, but I soon got over it and got into the tests!
Then came GT5 with the XP! Even though I got my Special Licence in a short time, it took quite a while for my XP to go up and I was unable to get some of the cars I wanted!! That really got my goat!

As for qualifying, that should NEVER have been taken out – EVER! I do like the idea of downgrading a licence for receiving too many penalties. It’s sort of like demerit points, but instead of losing your licence you have to make the points up in order to receive the full prizes on offer!

  9. wyse1

It’s sad that I’ve not read a single comment about the good soundtrack we have on GT5. I’m looking forward to the new soundtrack we will get on GT6 (:

    1. MOV Games

I didn’t actually like GT5’s soundtrack near as much as the first three games. Maybe its Nostalgia, but since 4 they mostly lost their charm for me. I would kill for GT6 to have some GT1-GT2 menu remixes.

    2. sayba2th

I am with you wyse, I quite enjoyed the GT5 soundtrack, however you need to have an eclectic taste, I think, to appreciate.

  10. gtrx251

I LOVE “Experience Points” in Gran Turismo 5/6 WHYYYYYYYYYY NOT!!!……………………. LOL LOL – NO Problems Guys 99% NO problems 99% & 100 LOL

  11. Mubble

Why does every news post turn in to another “I can’t wait for this and that car” spamming of the comments?

    1. Pit Crew

Here’s a thought; Could it be that a number of GT fans, unlike you obviously, are actually excited about the new content GT6 will provide concerning a vast number of cars that many have hoped would appear is confirmed?

They can’t contain their excitement and so they express their happiness. Didn’t know that was a crime?

If it bothers you that much, you could always bypass the gtplanet news blog altogether, and express your negativity elsewhere in the website.

    2. MuoNiuLa

This is what happens when a new GT game is coming near and I don’t blame them. I am very excited to drive the Shelby Daytona, Ford GT40, the FIA cars, along with their 15th Anniverssary counterparts. This is just something you have to live with.

    3. GTHEAD87

Im excited about the quattro. I’m trying not to be too excited incase it doesn’t sound like it :/. Still im glad the news come out a couple of months ago with video footage, demo etc. Nobody seen anything gt5 would contain for a couple of years. I cant wait.

    4. infamousphil

Congrats, you have been obliged Mubble. The GTO is what I’m waiting for. Nonetheless, there’s lots of news, of late, to be excited about. GT5 is the bomb… GT6 is going to be EPIC.

We’ll see you there Mubble ;)

    5. ScotteDawg

Why does every news post turn into another “I can’t wait to spam this and that comment” for Mubble?

    6. kolio123

Dear Mubble, I just want you too know, that I am excited for Gran Turismo 6! I can’t wait for all the new cars Polyphony and the Crew and prepared for us this year! Even the old standards!

  12. Logoncal21

I really preffered the Series unlocked because you got a certain license. The license tests are kinda useless on GT5, only usefull to get trophys and THAT PLATINUM! As for online chapionships? I’m not that good on Gran Turismo, but hey, getting between 3rd to 6th is something i guess….

    1. sumbrownkid

The XP system made the licensing system pointless in the grand scheme of things.

Glad they are doing away with XP but I wonder if Licensing will be done away with it too.

Personally, a true career mode should require some form of time allotment or mileage accruement within certain cars and results to go with them so as to qualify for the next higher up license.

    1. lebes14

So stoked for those cars! now im just hoping for an i8, 435i, m4, m5,m6, and e30. BMWs new line up is pretty sexy and I’d love to try them out!

    2. Rionmoon

I would prefer to decide to to participate in career mode or not to instead of it being half a$sed forced on me with silly licensing challenges and or XPs.

I paid my $59.99+ of REAL hard earned money to drive pretend simulated cars that short of becoming and Arabian oil sheik I will never get to drive, not half arse drive around in a ’69 Fiat 500 to “prove” I have what it takes to overtake another POS ’60’s Italian socialist econobox.

Day 1 I should be able to buy an interesting, reasonably fast, agile car that I can’t easily own in reality and go tearing down a well developed eve track. THAT’S GT.

    3. HuskyGT

Just play the game and try to have some fun… It doesn’t sound like you’ve played GT since the first title if you want to skip what makes Gran Turismo unique and so much fun. The only thing I can agree with you is the XP thing, which thankfully was removed.

And arguing over $60 bucks? That’s not even a fraction of the game’s value in my opinion. Other games cost that and end up in the bin one month later.

    1. Stewie Griffin

Oh wow didn’t notice the premium stratos that will be great. However I hope gt6 doesn’t count the upgraded premium cars that were standards in gt5 as “new” cars, because that will mean that there won’t be the 200 new cars promised and that will be annoying, and will also mean there will be standard duplicates of them, just like the upgraded premium cars in gt5

  13. H1s6n

    I have two questions:
1-Will GT6 Compatible with GT5 ?(GT5DLC works on GT6 or in save data) if yes, will we get a gift (like with ffxiii and ffxiii-2,I got special something in game and also theme forPS3)
2-if we got dlc on GT6(US disc) and my account is Europe will work or I have wait like what happened on GT5 (I want GT6 US disc because my GT5 Is Us disc and my account is Europe)
    So what the Solution ???
sorry my English is not very well

    1. ScotteDawg

I expect GT7 to be out in about 3 to 4 years!

Kaz stated how much easier the PS4 is to work on which means he and the PD team already know what to expect with programming for GT7!

  14. V10viperSRT

People there is a GT40 in GT5 already! It’s the Gulf racing one, you can buy it in the used car dealership.

    1. HuskyGT

I know, but not the street version. And even less, in Premium form. That’s why I consider this GT40 a new addition to the game, and a great comeback.

  15. z71L28

I thought the XP system was cool you couldn’t get the cars you wanted rightaway so it felt rewarding and exciting once you got there.

    1. infamousphil

Credits and cars are good enough for winning races, on and off line. You allready start with a small amount of credits. The online credit earnings were over exacerbated in 5. XP system just made things unnecessarily complicated, imo ;)

    2. ScotteDawg

If the XP system is gone, the cars will be unlocked when you complete a particular licence test – you will still have that sense of reward! THAT makes more sense!!
It will make people complete their licence tests in order to obtain the cars instead of having an XP system where you can get the cars without having the licences!

  16. A_Higher_Place

Excellent, either use it to full potential or rid of it. It was a welcomed attempt and I wouldn’t be 100% against it in GT6, but PD needed to choose between it and licenses imo.

    1. infamousphil

Hopefully the licensing system will restrict online room participation in GT6. Idiotic driving demeanour should effectively reduce your license credentials ;)

    1. HuskyGT

Ford GT40!! I can’t believe PD let it out of the game in the past two titles.

Then would be the BMW Z8! I think that BMW was the greatest and most unexpected surprise from PD so far. As a BMW fan, it’s hard to explain how happy I am about that car being in the game. It was so random and unexpected, but oh mam… A 400HP, fully manual V8 BMW roadster. Can’t wait for it.

    2. RACECAR

The list of cars I’m looking forward to:

2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 (Finally a recent Mustang)
      2013 Ford Focus ST
Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe (Been wanting it to return since GT2)
2009 Renault Megane Trophy (About time a console sim has this car)
Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 (Attempted to make my own in GT5, but its great to have the actual car)
Ford GT40 Road car (Another car I missed from GT2, and GT3 as well)
      SRT Viper GTS (Because Viper)
Audi R18 TDI (Glad to finally have a car that can actually take on the 908)

So yeah, I have a lot of cars I’m looking forward to driving.

    3. Pit Crew

@ Husky GT There is a GT40 in GT5, it just not a Premium and has livery. 67 Bday ticket, Lvl 17 ticket, or UCD.

    4. ScotteDawg

      Aston Martin DB3S
      BMW 507
      Mustang GT500 (2013)
      VW Sirocco GT24
      BMW Z8
      Corvette Stingray (2014)
      Shelby Daytona Coupe

      IN THAT ORDER

  17. AlexDug

Really happy for this. I disliked the grinding in GT5. Hope the events are unlocked by the licenses like in the previous GT’s. I think it’s the best concept.

  18. Radracing

Yes, Licences should be more developed into what room you can enter online with different licences classes. They should also have a setup programs with tutorials on how to setup a car in every class. It would definitely enhance GT Academy graduates an upper hand when applying in real life experience. Maybe even race strategies and techniques program in the game to teach the punters how to race cleanly.

    1. Quigz125

Yea I’d love it if they had tutorials that teach you how to tune for each class. Even if its a basic set up, something to point us in the right direction. For like sprints, drags, drifting, efficiency, etc…

  19. Blood*Specter

I’ll say this much; After buying a new HDTV, and not playing GT5 since the Academy came out, I am impressed by the exterior level of detail of even the “STANDARD” cars in the game.

The HDTV I retired was no slouch. It just started turning green after 12 years of service. It was still a very detailed unit.
That said, I can tell that everything about the feel and look of GT5 was changed (and maybe still is changing) for the better since the first day I played it over two years ago.

If GT6 is even 10% better than GT5 (I think it’s at least 50 percent better) it’s going to be one hell of a driving and visual experience.

  20. ccaranna

I don’t mind XP, but they need to have some value. Somone mentioned people reaching level 40 by running racing softs on everywhere, so why not base the XP system on how competitive your races are?

  21. sibbystiggy

I was disappointed to see that licences in gt5 were taken over by xp, licences can be developed much further and they are useful in separating the novice from the pro. Xp failed to achieve that when it mattered,

Now gt6 should bring back licences like how they were in gt4, so you unlock cars classes and aspec events with every licence and the s licence would be at the gt5’s x1 vettle lap attack level,
This will help online cus you would learn how to drive with the licences and only the best will get the highest licence cus it will all depend on skill,

  22. sircarltonlotus

For me, gt6 is shaping up amazingly. The vision gran turismo idea is incredible. I get the impression kaz is far happier at this point than he was about gt5, which is good. Having read some of the mindless, ill thought out and completely unoriginal complaints on gtplanet, I’d like to thank kaz/pd for all the fantastic work. Roll on Dec 6th!

    1. TokoTurismo

I couldn’t have said it any better myself. +1 sircarltonlotus, we really need more people like you here. :)

  23. Jump_Ace

No more XP system, sweet! Now I won’t get booted from a room because I’m level 40. Now if I can just change my nationality flag to Canada, haha.

    Jerome

    1. ScotteDawg

Or a flag from another planet! Mars would be my choice!

      Alas, that is not possible…

However, a website or forum sponsor flag might be good. Think about it – all of us could have a GTPlanet flag!!! Then, when playing GT6 online, as well as having the friendslist search there is also a flag search!

  24. VBR

“…online championships, and some of those will be…championships organized by community managers.”

Now that does sound interesting. Can you imagine some of the excellent race organisers here on GT Planet getting involved in this? Awesome!

  25. JASON_ROCKS1998

maybe instead of XP, events are restricted with specifications, for example lightweight k cup 63BHP and 600KG limits

    1. Logoncal21

GT2?! GT2 had only Power Limitations, Drivetrain and Engine Aspiration Limitation. You can drive a lightweight car on a Wagon Series in GT2

  26. [joel]

“we [Polyphony Digital] are going to start online championships, and some of those will be official championships and ***SOME OF THOSE WILL BE THE CHAMPIONSHIPS ORGANIZED BY COMMUNITY MANAGERS***.”

    YESS!!! Custom championships creator?

  27. Stephanos82

I wish online was something like World of tanks/warplanes! To gain experience/money according to race results so u can then upgrade your car or be able to get a new one!

    1. karelpipa

Yes, how to brake into corners and overtake safely especially… :-)
Without completing it, you shouldn’t be able to join any online race (though you could still create your own room, but with some note (like “This is a nonlicenced racer, be aware of him”) :-)

  28. zanxion

That’s it! I will definetly buy it. One of the things I hated most in GT5 has been its XP system. Years of grinding and still have not reached 40.

    1. MeanElf

Why didn’t you do the seasonal events then? You could get to level 40 in a very short time compared to A-spec…

  29. AERO_HDT

XP was useless. It just introduced grinding. And completely made a farce of one of the core elements of GT. Licence tests! :P

    1. MeanElf

Sorry, there was grinding in GT before GT5 even with the license tests. To buy more cars, you had to do certain events a few times.

    2. AERO_HDT

Yeah, but doing an event a “few times” isn’t grinding. And you can’t say that cars worth 20 million credits is anything like previous GT’s or the need to get to Lvl 40 XP to earn a trophy, or buy 1000 cars in your garage. GT5 really is a slog to complete properly, PD even admitted it by upping XP and prize money percentages for those players who log in on consecutive days. I love GT, but it’s been the hardest game of all the series to properly “clock”. ;)

  30. ROFFATI

i hope it goes back to the GT4 system, where you needed the license to proceed in the offline races.
Oh, and its nice that Apricote Hill is back. I hope they bring Midfield and Infineon Raceway as well.

    1. ScotteDawg

Yes, GT5 did have licences, but you didn’t have to have them to raise your levels and buy bigger and faster cars!

    1. MeanElf

GT7 will be a lot sooner than that, like gtone suggests. Tvensky, go look up the threads on the PS4 and development times.

  31. carfanatic45

I wish the endurance races could be a combination of A-Spec and B-Spec. Like a real one. So you do 4hrs of a race and then Bob can have a go. That way you don’t have to do two seperate races.

    1. SavageEvil

Like it used to be in GT4, that would be a god send, I hate having to watch B-Spec bob race it’s tiring especially since you couldn’t train him like you did in GT4. Oh well, win some lose a little more.

    2. Madertus

It gets worse – we can’t make the time go faster in GT5… Why did they get rid of this? B-Spec races are at least twice as long as A-Spec :C

    3. karelpipa

Yes, GT4 was the only where i comleted all endurances, thanks to option to send Bob on course. (now it should be like 4 drivers per team in very long races)

    4. ScotteDawg

That’s right Madertus, the 24hr races in B-spec took longer than the 24hr races in A-spec! Now, go home, you’re drunk…

  32. DriveTheGuard88

I really hope the trophies aren’t a huge pain in the ass in GT6. I REALLY don’t want to have to do another 72+ hours (144+ if you count B-spec) of endurance races to get the Platinum… And the X1 Challenges…

    1. zuperkiwi

You don’t have to do the endurance races yourself to get platinum.
I finished them all on B-spec and got my platinum before I started them in A-spec.
Hell, I am not even finished with the A-spec endurance races at this moment (24hrs Nur + 9hrs Tsukuba).
Platinum wasn’t really that difficult; Vettel challenges were hardest but were fun!

    2. MeanElf

Speak for yourself about how easy the platinum was ;) it’s recognised as one of the harder ones to get. I’m a reasonable driver but I won’t get it – the X1 challenge is really rough on us older ones and I just can’t seem to get that Alfa Romeo one on Eiger…

I don’t mind a lengthy campaign for completion though – that’s what GT is about really, lots and lots of driving.

    3. DriveTheGuard88

      @zuperkiwi, I didn’t know that… That makes it better.

@MeanElf, I got gold in the X1 Challenge at Monza, and bronze at Nurburgring so far. The Alfa Romeo at Eiger is one I’ve been like a tenth away for months! Another pain is the AMG Driving Academy, specifically the one with the old car, in the rain, with no driving line :/

  33. SavageEvil

Icing on the cake would be to import your entire save from GT5 to GT6 thereby giving you all your cars and half your cash. No cash limit and permanent paint chips, not more stocking up for arbitrary reasons. I also hope we get actual tune saves that we can gift and lose the permanent upgrade thing, it’s annoying because it forces you to buy multiple cars and that just creates needless clutter. More streamlining would make this GT kitty purr. Love the sound of online championships and other things. I seriously hope PD breaks the fingers of the guy who likes to activate SRF…in fact how about we remove that from the game completely…it’s so damn stupid.
GT7 on PS4, it better include every car in GT6 and only add more, just streamline the model line up to have a car then we pick which version we want from the model builds that were actually available even down to the country the model was sold in. I have a feeling the GT7 is going to knock the socks off what we know about GT, I see 40+ car grids, full day night cycle on every course with weather localized to region and can even sync to actual weather conditions in real time for the race start. For now though I await GT6 to land in my hands so I can start playing all over again. I am psyched right now.

    1. AERO_HDT

Hehehe, Savage, you wouldn’t be playing all over again if you just imported 90% of GT5 into GT6! You’d just be… well… bored before you even started! ;)

I think buying a collecting cars in GT is a reward in itself. Sure I don’t wet my pants at having a Viper in my garage anymore, but finding that mint condition classic with rare factory paint and low mileage is a lot of fun!

I’m not holding my breath for GT7. It’ll be released sometime late 2015, maybe later.

    1. Both Barrels

You’re right HarVee, I’ve been away for a while as my PC was fried. I’ve got a lot of reading to do.

  34. Whodoyouthink

Very pleased to hear about online championships. This will really make up for what was kind of lacking in GT5’s.

  35. Amac500

I think this is a more realistic move by PD. All XP unlocked were cars too buy and championships. Championship can be unlocked by completing championships, which at a certain point you didn’t have to do in GT5, and the car dealer is better without unlock levels. My dream for the car dealer is that you could buy street cars and go through selecting options like you would in real life, at least for the newest models, but I know that’s an unrealistic thing to expect.

  36. Felix

I hope we will be able to win cars more than once like we could with the previous versions of GT prior to GT5.

I think it’s good that they have taken the time to research how people are doing things with the online racing and adding features to the new game to help people organize things easier and most of all better.

It seems that they really have taken on board all the things we are a community were criticizing about GT5 and making the various changes to solve the gripes and problems that were highlighted.

Things are looking good for GT6 and it’s good to see they are also in the early stages of the lengthy process of producing the first PS4 installment. Let’s hope they won’t do a prolog version as they previous have, which just gave us false hopes and I believe was in part one of many things that caused the delay with GT5.

  37. infamousphil

Lol, I first thought the pp system was to be axed! Oh well. Maybe in the next thread ;)

The XP system was useless imo. There’s no hiding inexperience or faking skill.

    1. 70hemi

That’s a great idea gtone, and I can’t imagine them not being able to since they have done that with 3 and 4.

    2. Amac500

Why would we bring our GT5 cars to GT6? Haha, if we were doing that then why release a new game when it could be a GT5 update? Nothing needs to carry over! Not cars, not credits, haha, come on people, it’s a new game.

    3. Nuuj

I’d be happy if I could avoid the License Tests, getting Gold on certain Tests ruined all the progress I made in Anger Management lol..

    4. Nuuj

But then again the Physics have changed a bit, so testing them during those Tests will most likely be the 1st thing I do when I start–I agree there should be some kind of Gift for having made Progress in GT5 though, keeping your B-Spec Drivers (with Levels intact) perhaps? Paint Chips? Gear? Something lol..

    5. mr_pepps

New game new start. It’s all part of the GT experience. If Kaz backs down and allows game data transfer I’ll opt out and start with a new profile.
I fgt such a kick out of a fresh new GT – can’t imagine spoiling it by having extra money or cars at the start.

    6. Logoncal21

@HarVee. True, but they didn’t gave you like 300 cars of your old garage. i’m sorry, i don’t want to start the game with 300 cars in my garage. altough 50k of credits and ATLEAST B license is enough for a good start.

  38. sangdude82

Kaz has to create a brand new platform for GT7, right? May be He can get the proper engine sounds for GT7 lol.

    1. Amac500

@gtone339 It’s not easy because GT5 and 6 are on the PS3 and the PS4 is obviously not the same game engine. It’s gonna be a clean slate.

    2. Quakebass

Assets transfer. 3D meshes/models are pretty much universal in any engine or architecture. The textures probably aren’t, but those were going to be re-done anyways since theres so much more spac in the new hardware. AND, the architecture is SO much easier to develop for. I wouldn’t expect GT7 to be much more than 3-4 years after GT6 launches for that reason, even if PD REALLY wants to maximize the potential of the PS4.

    3. Nuuj

Our “Standards” are PS2 era ports, I think they’d be able to transfer Premiums.. I just hope that the line-ups remain up to date, even most of the premiums hit showrooms in 2008-2009 (a few even earlier), some Companies have changed their Designs/Specs a couple times since then..

As for Engine Sounds, they have all the resources they need here now–so if people feel it’s not sounding right now, it won’t be next time either lol..

  39. gtone339

    – No more Xp for GT-Mode.
    – what about B-Spec mode? Make it optional like in GT4 please.
    – Tourist Trophy sequel a possibility?

    And……Gran Turismo 7 on PS4 confirmed!!

  40. BIOHAZARD9519

Thank God! I found it pointless and restricting in GT5. It would also make GT6 a pain as players would have to redo what they already know to gain back XP. Now I know that’s not the case.

  41. HuskyGT

I can’t believe it. This game is going to be a dream! That means License tests most likely will be back and important for the game progress!

  42. Pit Crew

Sounds Familiar: Kazunori also offered a curiously coy response when asked about a return of Tourist Trophy, stating he “can’t say no”, refusing to completely rule out the possibility.

Really close to the same “Coy” response when he was asked about Porsche in a Future GT title.

  43. chevyisawesome

gt7?!??!?!??!?!ps4?!?!?!??!??!?! whats this?! shouldn’t gt7 be on ps5?(if that’s gonna come) or at least wait a long time till people get tired of it and then protest for gt7?

    1. TomBrady

I want XP back but XP doesn’t say whether someone’s a noob or a simracer.

Seriously, I see noobs at A spec level 40 all the time. They got that way by racing on racing soft tires 100% of the time. The game lets them get away with that.

That’s the issue with XP and leveling, all it takes is time, not skill.

    2. Pit Crew

By their Driving Style perhaps. It’ll be immediately apparent when the nOoB passes you after ramming you into a barrier, sandtrap, grass, etc etc.

    3. Quakebass

An Online rank system could be cool, where you have “points” that you can lose or win based on how well you do in an online race. It isn’t a perfect system and I doubt it’s been planned, but it COULD sort out the noobs for the pros. Maybe rankings for each lobby quality/type (casual/race for real etc.) would make it a little more efficient…

    4. MeanElf

Steeper difficulty levels would be good as you progress, that way only concentration and skill would let you get through to the next race instead of overpowering the opposition and using RS all over the place.

I don’t hold that much hope for such difficulty levels though – it would upset the casual gamers too much.

    1. varmintx

Incredibly good news as I hated the completely unnecessary leveling up system from 5. I love role-players, but I’m getting sick and tired of developers crowbarring those types of mechanics into games they do not belong in.

  44. COUNTERSTEER123

YES!!! It’s not going to be as restrictive as GT5 was when buying cars. This just keeps betting better and better :D

  45. Castrol96

Licence in GT5 was useless, they were so easy, now if we have licence again it will really mean true skill over players, instead of some people which use easy methods of leaving the PS3 on all night.

    1. ferm65

+1 The days of endlessly trying to get gold at Laguna Seca with the Oreca Viper seemed so long gone in GT5. I loved those challenges, but they made it was way too easy !

    2. TomBrady

The vettel challenges were really difficult to get gold on. At one point even bronze was tough until PD ruined it by making the bronze time super easy. It used to be a mark of talent to even own a Red Bull X1, now it’s a joke

    3. Logoncal21

Well, i might aswell get a copy of Gran Tursimo 6 when it’s released and waste a week to get those shiny, beautifull, glorious gold trophies on my License test statistics.

    1. Logoncal21

Oddly, i think that’s a great reason to not pre-order. Those cars might make the game easy :P. And i like challenge(especially when GT’s AI tend to be kinda slow.)

  46. klamb

I wasn’t a big fan of the current XP and level system anyway. It took me exactly 2 years to reach Level 40 A spec for me in GT5, and that’s without unlimited high speed internet at my house! Let’s hope they get back to making us doing the license tests to unlock the races again! And when they are at it, make the credit rewards for offline grinding more worthwhile because I still can’t get unlimited High speed internet at my house for the time being.

  47. Castrol96

Finally no more XP, that means i don’t have to play the game for a year to reach the top. And if there’s no XP anymore i wish we have Licences to complete, and i want a lot of them, tricky ones, that really challenges you, just like the old games did.

  48. Kake Bake

But then how will the game arbitrarily withhold content from the player?!
GT has never been about player choice or control before, why start now?

    1. Quakebass

They could have different A-Spec ranks, SORT of like how GT5 was set up… unlocking more series and whatnot, maybe extending that to types of cars. Or maybe something as simple as a certain amount of podiums unlocks “X” content… But then again, I don’t really see that point… The most I see necessary is having access to street cars, then super/concept cars, then low-race spec, (GT3) and then high-race spec (LMP)… Even that’s excessive. I don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to do what you want in your career, considering that most race cars will be mighty expensive and early races will probably have low payouts.

  49. crcn11

Why does no one like the XP? This is literally the first complaint about the XP system I’ve ever heard. What’s bad about gaining points? It’s not like they’re money or anything…

    1. fourliter

Yeah, I’ve never heard any complaints, either. It’s not as it it’s unique to the GT franchise or GT5.

    2. TomBrady

I agree. I always liked it. How can anyone complain about having to play the game and earn everything they get? Isn’t that the point of a career mode?

    3. JacoJa

TomBrady, that’s what game credits are for. Even if you could afford to buy a supercar, each race event will/should have tyre and PP restrictions to keep the racing fair. The EXP points just spoiled the fun, and made the licence tests unimportant. It was a rubbish system… I’m glad they culled it.

    4. MuoNiuLa

Because it restricted people from doing certain events and buying cars, even if they have the money, until they were a high enough level. It was a real problem when GT5 came out and there were no seasonal events. Many people had to grind to get what they wanted. It’s stupid and unnecessary.

    1. RESHIRAM5

I don’t want that to happen, licenses felt to boring and kept me away from racing.

However, licenses are better then the level system :).

  50. Cosbuster

Experience was very badly implemented for sure but the notion itself is not bad. I would have rather have them rework the system and bring us something fresh and genuinely fun but oh well, at least it’s an improvement over GT5.
