The latest sales chart for UK retail continues to show strong staying power for GT Sport. After fading in the first few weeks of the year, Sport is maintaining popularity as this week’s chart shows.
On a general note, it’s a fantastic hold for Capcom’s Monster Hunter: World. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One debut for the series is doing well in the region, holding as the best seller for the second week in a row. That’s no mean feat in the UK with its obsession with Call of Duty and FIFA, which usually dominate the charts. Last week’s other debutant, Dragonball FighterZ, fell from second down to sixth.
Building on a strong performance from the previous week, GT Sport continues to impress in 2018. The title moves from 13th up to 12th and seems to be showing no signs of slowing down. The momentum of a substantial content update and the ease of finding the game at low price are helping it become the genre’s strongest performer. As a traditionally strong performer in the UK, it is encouraging to see audiences continue to be receptive to such a change in focus for the franchise. If this continues, perhaps competitive racing really is the future for GT.
Elsewhere in the genre, Forza Horizon 3 continues to chart. Despite a small one place drop, the effective bundling of the game keeps it going every week. We could also assume that Xbox One sales in the UK must be strong, since it keeps the title placing higher than much later releases. Even if customers are picking up the console for the buzz around Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, there’s no harm in also picking up one of the finest games of the generation.
This week’s chart marks the second consecutive week that Forza 7 and NFS Payback are nowhere to be seen. It is a bit surprising to see such a fall after both were performing relatively well not so long ago. Perhaps it’s time for some retail discounting.
