Hello everyone! For those unfamiliar, I’m Slip, and I’ll be posting weekly updates here on the main page about one of our forum’s more exciting community events: Photomode Competitions!
PD introduced Photomode to us all back in GT4, and while it was met with trepidation back then, it’s become a feature almost expected in the driving/racing genre since then. I recently joined the staff here at GTP, but I’ve been a member for years, with the majority of my activity in the GT-related Photomode sections. While plenty of members post in general Photomode threads (take a look here), and some choosing to open their own galleries to keep their work in one organized thread (all located here), some people just need competition.
Fancy yourself pretty good behind the lens, in-game or in real life, and want to take part? Then here’s a quick run-down of what to expect from the two main competitions we currently host. Each week, a new theme is picked by the previous winner, who will sit out for the week, but gets to pick the entries that make it to the poll at the end of the week. To ensure there’s very little down time, we have a new theme every week overlapping with the voting process; during Week 6, for example, Week 5’s polls will be up to determine the winner of Week 5, and that winner will then choose Week 7’s, and so on. Other than the week’s judge, each competition is open to any ‘Planet member, and same goes with voting. We only ask that you find a suitable place to upload your image online to share with the thread (popular services are ImageShack, Flickr, or Photobucket), and that in the thread, a thumbnail or preview image no bigger than 500px on the longest side be used. Label the image with “FINAL ENTRY” text, preferably in red, and there you go! As for the differences in the two competitions, and most important, this week’s themes:
PMC Week 4 Winner: Polifonic
Photomode Competition (PMC): PMC is the easy-access competition – there is no post-GT editing allowed at all, just straight shots from the game! This week’s theme is Snowy White, as chosen by Week 4 winner Polifonic. He’s looking for white cars taking to the snow tracks in the game, meaning Chamonix or the Alaska theme available in the Track Creator.

2.0 Advanced Week 4 Winner: chromatic9
Advanced Competition (2.0): 2.0 allows post-game editing in programs such as Photoshop, and has a smaller poll each week compared to PMC, meaning competition is fiercer. This week’s theme is Ferrari vs Lamborghini, as chosen by Week 4 winner chromatic9. Pick a side and post either your best prancing horse, or your best raging bull!

This Week in the Polls:
Didn’t enter? No problem, you can still vote to help determine the best shots each week.Voting closes before the weekend each week, so get in there!
PMC Week 5 Poll: Interiors – Tying in with his discovery (as detailed here), forum member |eG| laid out the theme for last week.
2.0 Week 5 Poll: Top Gear – Everyone’s BBC favourite was the theme last week, thanks to Revolution. Which image best conveys the feel of the show?
All sound a bit complicated? Read this thread for an explanation on how to get your images off your PS3 and onto a computer, and read over the individual rules in each competition’s thread. If you’re further stuck, feel free to Private Message either me (click here) or Nicknamealguem (click here). As added incentive, in-game prize cars will be handed out this week, for both competitions! Start snapping those digital shutters!
Below is a gallery of the previous winners… why not join them?
*should
This will be a weekly feature on the front page, giving an overview of both the new themes and polls each time. Plus, when new comps do eventually see the light of day, I’ll be mentioning those as well. The response really has been fantastic so far!
Rock on! ;)
And Slips, you sohuld keep doing this! :)
It makes for the double amount of entries and votes!
hopla!
Woops, just noticed it was actually Slip that posted this lol. Well kudos to both of you for making this happen!
Heh, couldn’t have done it without Jordan, though!
It’s going to make picking entries for the polls that much harder for judges. I hope you realize this with your awesome F40 shot! :p
Just wanted to say thanks again Jordan for posting this. The response has been enormous! In just two days we have already basically doubled the amount of voters in the comps and entries for next weeks comps are stacking up as well!!
Way cool!
Great post to rep photomode!
My pic would’ve been geat for the top gear topic comp. Its my drifting a vw bus. Looks pro lol
Boring !
FINAL ENTRY BMW M3 Coupe 07
That Ferrari enzo looks beautiful. All them pics look great. Should make some myself.
When I saved my picture in the usb and uploaded it in the Flickr, How will I submit it for the competiotion?
Just make a post in the appropriate thread, make sure you read the rules first.
The GTi picture looks amazing!
I stand no change against these shots.. LOL!
I havnt tried PM yet
As someone who makes a living out of photography, I think these images are really well produced! Impressive so to speak.
I’m really blown away especially by the Enzo picture. I can only WISH I could produce images from such perspectives in real life.
The joys of GT5 Photomode and the fact we can have perfect rig shots with the click of a button ;).
How do you change the lighting effects and colours in the photos?
What exactly do you mean? The first four shots in the gallery are straight from the game; they only use options available in Photomode itself. For the 2.0’s, like Sejtur’s Enzo for example, he probably used Photoshops Levels adjustment, and/or Curves and/or Colour Balance to achieve that look :)
I also made a convincing image as well. Already posted it in the realistic photo thread.
Amazing post! Really good details over there and all well explained. Also, totally agree with posts bellow, the quality of entries is amazing, specially from the new members. =D
Awesome.
These images are insanely good!
These images are SO blowing up my mind!!!!
Wow… Simply wow! The level of quality is certainly very high! I’ll be watching this topic with much pleasures. Keep it up and keep them coming.
