Microsoft has nice little New Year gift for rally fans, as DiRT Rally 2.0 will be free to play for Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass Ultimate members throughout this weekend.
It’s part of the Xbox Live Free Play Days scheme. Part of the package of perks to the aforementioned members, Free Play Days are a chance to play full titles as if they’re part of your game collection without actually having to fork out for them. Any points you earn and any DLC you buy automatically carry over to the game if you subsequently purchase it. Free Play Days also offer the chance for other Xbox Live members to play online multiplayer at no extra cost.
For this weekend, DiRT Rally 2.0 is the subject of the action. We were quite impressed with the title when it came out 11 months ago, and Codemasters has been steadily improving it since.
The Free Play Days weekend actually started on Thursday, January 2 but will run through to midnight Pacific Time on Sunday, January 5. Gold and Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to play for free throughout, once they’ve downloaded the game from the Gold member area on the Xbox One.
Should the rally bug bite you, the full game is also available for 70% off in Standard and Digital Deluxe versions, at $18 and $24 respectively, in the Microsoft Store. The Super Deluxe is also subject to a discount, albeit a milder 50% saving at $50. Be aware though that discounts may vary by region.
If you’re not an Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass Ultimate member, you can still pick up the Free Trial version of DiRT Rally 2.0 — and that covers PlayStation 4 users as well.
