Play GT5 Against Sebastien Loeb at Paris Games Week

The Paris Games Week is about to kick off on October 27th, and according to these renderings, plenty of space has been set aside in “PlayStation City” for Gran Turismo 5. Seven-time WRC champion and GT fan Sebastien Loeb will be on-hand at the event, competing head-to-head with the public in the game. (He’d better start practicing, though – at his last event, he fell to a GTPlanet user!)

The show is open to the public starting Thursday, so if you’re in the area, reserve your tickets here. Kazunori Yamauchi was originally slated to make an appearance, but the most recent post about the event at the PlayStation France blog does not mention his name. Considering he was originally set to be in Europe for the GT5 launch party in Madrid on October 26 which has since been postponed, he may no longer be making the trip.

Maybe there’s only been 2 official delays, but if a game doesn’t get released in the holiday season of a certain year, it’s only natural to assume that it will the year after that. And the one after that. And then the one after that…Anyway the problem is that, delays or not, we’ve been kept waiting for 5 years.

That’s an insane time for something like a videogame – for heaven’s sake, most car manufacturers have replaced most of their models since the game was announced. It’s stuff like this that really makes me see the worst in this game. Useless features like NASCAR and Go-karting. No livery editor. 80% of the cars half-completed.

Can I make a better game? Tell you what, give me $60m and 100-150 expert developers, and we’ll see. Come on Sony/PD/Yamuachi, we’ve been waiting long enough, give us the damn game already.

    1. Red_9

More like the third delay already. It was supposed to come out 2008 before all the delaying, was it not? That was its first launch window I think.

    1. BigE

      or else what?
      it’s not jordan’s fault there’s no news.
don’t look to be angry just to be angry.
whatever will be, will be. whatever is, is.

  2. Bearcut

    FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU…………………………………..

Feel free to insert any letters you choose.

  3. JayKayEm

    Sebastien Loeb? Like he cares.

    Sebastien Loeb? Like I care.

I would rather play my little sister online if it meant I had a copy of this (delayed) game.

  4. pasigiri

To be honest, people need to chill. Everyone here is upset that their favorite game is delayed for the umph-teenth time. But it is still JUST A GAME. It’ll be out before the end of the year.

  5. Magic Ayrton

Loving this Sony related BS.. Just bought a Panasonic 1080p 32 inch TV.. looks great and was less than £400!

    1. Elohim

That’s a good price, I got a 42 inch 1080i plasma Panasonic for 430 at this new store that opened up near me called ultimate electronics, if anybody wants a TV I recommend that store, they had a deal for a 52 inch Sony Bra-via 3D 1080p TV, a 1000 watt 5.1 Sony surround sound system, 4 Pairs of 3D glasses, a HD transmitter and some blu ray movies I can’t remember and it was all 2300 dollars which is really rediculous. Their slogan is lowest price period. hahah you should check out their site

  6. F.G.

And so what if they give you a release date? How is that going to enrich your sad lives?

You’re still going to have to wait for the game, even if you know the release date. I don’t see how it makes any difference to anyone.

They said it will be out before the end of the year, so just assume it’s December 31st, and be happy if it’s out before then. Just get on with your lives ffs

    1. Paulo

In a sad way you are right. What the hell is a release date going to change, nothing honestly, they can say it will come out December 1st, and then end up getting delayed again. All that matters is the game coming out when it comes out, who wants to count the days to another promised release date just to be let down again. As I’ve stated many times before, I will believe GT5 is released when I see it on my doorstep.

    2. Skidmark

It’s been said many times and I’ve experienced myself that anticipation is better than the actual event…think of all those birthdays as a kid.

Maybe we owe a debt of gratitude to Sony and P/D for all then added anticipation we’re experiencing…wait a minute…I almost bought that crap.

It is true we need to get on with our lives…so why do we keep coming back here for more disappointment? We must be more than just a little bit maladjusted.

The postponement is not a marketing ploy…I’m convinced of that. Sony would benefit much more from the original release date than a delay. There are limited video game dollars/euros that will be spent in the holiday season. The more buzz of a shipping game title there is the more dollars/euros will be diverted to Sony from the vast majority of gamers who are not hardcore GT5 fans like us. Do you suppose the Japanese fans have a real yen for the game like us ;|(currency humor).

All this rhetoric aside…when will we be getting the game…I’m tired of begin thrilled with waiting.

    3. Gt5anticip8r

Wow, F.G you’ve come to tell us for a second time to ‘get on with our lives’. That’s kinda hypocritical.

  7. ken_b

Agree with GamerGT5, surely ones disappointment shouldn’t lead to violence! Heck, I’d still be stoked to buy Kaz some beers…then beat his time on the ring! lol

  8. ken_b

F.G. lighten up Francis!! You know what opinions are like, and everyone has one. Surely this community is accepting to our complaints. Comes from bitterness and disappointment of being blue balled with a second delay. You are right, patience is best…well I think that is what you’re saying. Personally can’t wait until I check gtp and see that headline of a release date. However, I don’t think it will come this week. Have a good one!

    1. Erik

@ Jojo : So you think that the people seeing the delay of a video game as the ending of the world are the ones who are down-to earth and living their lives in the real world, while the guys saying “come on, it’s not the entire world” are the ones who do nothing but live for the game? Hm… that’s an interesting theory.

    2. Gt5anticip8r

      @ Erik
Down to earth? Real world? That’s rich, coming from someone who compares a railway tunnel to a video game about cars.

  9. F.G.

Some of you guys really need to get lives, instead of sitting at home every day complaining about the release date.

It’ll be released when it’s ready. Just live with it, ffs.

  10. IVKillerVI

Damn it, I saw the big red circle for the thumbnail and for some reason my mind instantly jumped to the conclusion that it had something to do with the release date. So I clicked without reading and now I made myself sad.
Last time I visit this site at 12:46am.
But maybe they will announce the release date during that event.

  11. Red_9

Whoever is in charge of the GT5 marketing campaign needs to be taken out back behind the PD office and shot in the back of the head with a point-blank BB Gun until dead.

Then maybe they can focus long enough to get this out the door. Heaven forbid the game doesn’t get absolute critical acclaim. ‘Cause if it doesn’t, PD can consider all that extra time a waste.

“Wait a little longer.” F*** you, Yamauchi. We’ve waited long enough.

  12. Icyw1nd

Seriously the only thing anyone cares about is “gimme the dam game already” The only reason i bought a ps3 5 years ago was for this title and that is the only reason i haven’t sold it for worth as of late.

This is unacceptable on all accounts! They owe us big time for it, How about make every copy at least a free upgrade for CE edition or something for those who already have it on order? Come on PD and Sony give us the GT5 now!

How can Sony and PD expect to do this crap and get away with it something needs to be done to show that as gamers we wont accept being jerked around here!

  13. Brucie B

If they would just reveal at least one new car, or some random nice feature, something anything, just to say “hey look guys, look what we’ve done with this absurd amount of time spent working on the game” this would be bearable. Instead I come hear to learn that a few dozen people on the other side of the world will get to play it while the rest of us wait in the dark. Sony makes me feel like a mushroom.

  14. ken_b

Ok guys, group hug time. In fact, more along the lines of a Jim Morrison ‘The Doors’ desert bonding, if you know what I mean.

Jordan and the gtplanet crew does a great job through the years providing information. I appreciate their continued efforts and I’m stoked to share my interest with other members.

Of course, I’d love to see a release date along with millions of others. It will come, hopefully soon, no need to know why it was delayed. Just deliver, enjoy and ty for shopping! Peace.

    1. organ-donor

Agree. Instead of “Play GT5 Against Sebastien Loeb at Paris Games Week” how about I play GT5 against my roommate in my own house. :/

  15. Bearcut

I don’t know about everyone else (and some people have commented to this effect) but I am sick of hearing about all these exclusive events, including the one at Taiwan which has one of the girls holding a SEALED COPY OF GT5 IN HER HAND, but still have not heard one peep out of Sony/PD about a release.
All of the games I am looking forward to on the PS3 have pissed me off with release dates, GT5 being the number one reason. I bought a PS3 just to play GT5 4 years ago, and have since had to buy ANOTHER ONE because the one old broke and I still dont have the damn game. COME ON SONY.

    Other PS3 Delays:
    LittleBigPlanet2
Final Fantansy 14 (Oh, you can come out on PC but not Ps3?)
    DC Universe Online
Test Drive Unlimited Two (not sony related…)
Dead Nation (Where the f**k is this game already? Another overhyped game with no release date)

    Anyway, i’m done.

  16. 3T4

I just HOPE they have the full version of the game on show and not another demo like at previous events.

We’re so close I can smell the burning rubber

  17. ken_b

We all need our GT5 fix, I’ve played GT5P for my racing fix…and although enjoyable, knowing the GT5, which we heard about many years ago would become available. Surely, the delay is bitter sweet. And at the end of the day, they have a much better product in GT5 on the horizon. No choice to continue with patience and grow our anticipation. I work in software and completely understand dev and qa requirements after any changes to code. But let us still be able to gather on gtplanet and complain! I have, will and probably will continue even when I have the game. But that complaining will be about my driving or being t-boned by a 12 yr old! lol. Sony/PD will soon release the date, I’m just bitter because I wanted my week off of work playing GT5 as of Nov 2. Without a release date, it’s hard to plan. But it will happen, and Sony/PD will be rewarded for their hard work. Speaking as a decade long fan of the series, I can’t wait for GT5 and will continue to be patient and complain. Peace.

    1. Driver46

Same here. I wanted to take my vacation in early November but now I won’t. Hopefully in December.
Oh and I don’t think being t-boned by 12year olds will happen that much anymore as we will have private lobbies and can race with our friends that drive normal :).

  18. Driver46

Yes,nice. But like many of the comments say I also mainly care about the release of the game.
How long can I play Forza3 as a substitute? That game is just bad. I need my GT5 fix :)

  19. ken_b

That’s awesome! To bad there wasn’t anything organized like this in Los Angeles, I would have been down in a heartbeat! So, if I was in Paris, between grinding on all local cuisine and sucking down bourdeoux like it’s the last super…I’d go spank Sebbie V!…well try to! haha, sounds like an old 80’s rapper, Sebbie V, in the place to be! jk. However, like Charlie’s quest of a golden ticket, when I launch gtplanet with anticipation of jumping into the river of chocolate, a release date!…not today.

  20. Maxiboy

I wonder if he will crash into you during a stupid over taking maneuver whilst your in the lead of a race, handing victory over to Mclaren while safe in the self delusion that he is the new Micheal Schumacher? Or is that just Mark Webber he does that to? That kid needs to learn how to operate as part of a team.

  21. Red_9

Once again, I think Sony/PD are more focussed on promoting the bloody game than they are actually releasing the bugger. Some games barely get a quarter of this exposure, get released faster and are just as good.

  22. Gt is coming

You all relize the date was the 26th or this release party and they moved it to the 27th doesn’t this hint that the game may only be a day or two behind maybe instead of the 2nd it’ll be the third or fourth

    1. Mattycakes

I really wish that was true, but if it was only delayed by a few days they wouldnt have made such a big deal about it or totally reschedule the release date. They would have just been like “oh, sorry. release date is now 2 days later.” But lets have faith. Im still hoping for before Dec.

    2. Gt is coming

Matty Cakes I got to disagree because I think it was all a publicity stunt. Think about it hype the crap out of a game, then a month before the release tell everybody its yet again delayed but it will be out before Christmas. Now once you do that and state you will announce a release date soon a lot of people are going to constantly look for that date especially on this site (example —- ME). Then when you have tons and tons of people wondering and thinking the game is coming out extremely late you release it 2 or 3 days after its initial release date. The game has sold out in numerous location (special edition) and then after we are told its sold out the quantity is back to normal. Once again this makes people buy the game from any area they possibly can. This has been done before; its basics of marketing; give tons of info about features have everybody think its coming out on a certain date then inform everybody it will be delayed, and release no info at all; people are proven to want to know the unknown; its also why religions so popular

    3. Dunavantj

I wish this were the case, but given PD’s actions past 5 years I can only be lead to believe this a for real no sh!t delay. Not just a Marketing ploy

    4. GamerGT5

It was a good thing i didn’t buy the logitect gt wheel and the wheel stand. I was planning to buy these in a week before GT5 comes out. And now I spent over half of my money that i saved for this. And no I don’t think they’re going to release this 2 or 3 days after. That’s a real bad marketing decision in my opinion.

    5. Red_9

it’s all a matter of when they can get into the production facility to get their Blu-Rays burned. Since they missed their initial window, they need to find another one, and because the holiday season is literally booked solid for Blu-Ray burning appointments, it could be a little while before they get in.

    6. neem'

Red_9, that’s definitely a factor but I don’t think it’s the whole story, if they’d got it released before Black Ops, which (I think) is the most pre-ordered game in the Call of Duty franchise history (i.e. there’s a LOT of pre-orders) then they might have been ok, but if the release date slipped even one week so that it was coming out in the same week I’m sure their sales would have taken a hit. I’m (uneducatedly) guessing they’ll give it at least two weeks after Black Ops, maybe even as late as the week before Christmas, but no later than that if they want to take advantage of the huge worldwide pre-Christmas spending spree.

Then again, releasing just after Christmas wouldn’t be so bad, there’s rarely any massive games in the early first quarter of every year so they could take advantage of being the biggest release in that relative drought. If they really were going to have the game out at the start of November I don’t see how it can be any later than January/February 2011, there’s no big competition slated for release around that time. Of course, it could be earlier, GT5 isn’t exactly an underdog itself but going against Black Ops would be a bad decision, as I’m sure most people would agree.

  23. Adam

oh god, more useless and boring news. we want the game already SONY/PD! I’m tired of all these news that has really nothing to do with the game itself. I’m not interested in these shows or events. Just please give us the game. I’m extremely frustrated with the way Sony/PD have handles things. We’ve been lied one too many times. This kinda news isn’t going to make it any better for us.

    1. Erik

GTPlanet is not an official news channel for Sony or PD. What is happening is that Jordan is digging up news about Gran Turismo that we might find interesting. Either he can do that, and the site will have updates every once in a while, or he can stop doing that and the site will never be updated. I don’t know why you come here?

And then it’s a pretty important difference between telling a lie and to not be able to do something that you have promised. It’s the difference between night and day, and being totally ignorant to things like that really pisses me off. So please, tell me when PD or Sony has ever lied to you.

    2. Gt5anticip8r

      @ Erik
PD/Sony lied just a few days ago, when they said the game was delayed because Yamauchi is a perfectionist. In reality it was delayed because they were scared crapless that some 12-year-olds might pirate their precious game.

  24. teccboxx

NFS:HS demo in three weeks, released in four weeks and still no firm release date.

It is cool that Sony are holding these events but they should at least have figured a release date by now.

  25. Ferrari

    I just want this game….
I really don’t care about all these contests at the moment.

I’m more excited about Killzone 3 than this game now

  26. FrancisBenjamin

again, something GT is going on in Europe.

mean while, the rest of the world gets… just the Delayed.

    1. Joe J

For christ’s sake, they can’t have a promotional event in every bloody country in the world. There’s hundreds of places they have never done anything in. What about them? Should Botswanans be complaining about the lack of attention they receive from sony/PD?

I’d go as far as to say your probably from one of the most ‘blessed’ countries in terms of GT5 advertising such as the USA or Australia, yet just because one event isn’t held in your back yard you have to complain.

Just remember, there’s millions of GT fans worldwide who will never see any promotion in their general region, let alone in their country.

    2. Erik

Well, Europe is not a country. All Europeans do not live next to Paris. And what about the events in America, Asia and Australia? Did those never happen?

    1. Dunavantj

+1 if we don’t get a date by 31st I am officially jumping ship and selling my PS3 and every PS3 related item I have.

    2. GTbyPlaystation

That’s a bit over the top Dunavantj.
If it isn’t released by December, yes I will be disappointed. However, not disappointed enough to sell all my Playstation equipment. We’ve been waiting for this game for over 5 years now. The Gran Turismo series is trying to create the best driving simulator on the planet but they have slightly forgotten about an important aspect, their fans.

    3. Erik

@ Dunavantj : Selling your PS3 now is probably the most stupid thing you could do. If you’ve been waiting for this game, and you bought your PS3 just for this game, it’s a huge waste of money to sell the console for a much reduced second hand value only weeks before the game is actually released. Pretty bad investment I would say. Unless you think that a few weeks are worth more than what you payed for your PS3…

    4. Erik

And GTbyPlaystation: I don’t see how they forgot about their fans. They overshot a release window by 3 days and that seems to be the crime of the century. Apart from that, their biggest fault seems to be that they are working on a game that looks so good that it’s hard for the fans to wait until it’s actually done… I don’t know if that is “forgetting about the fans” or if it’s something else.

  27. jodark

The thing is, I don’t care about all this these bits they’ve put out in the past 2 weeks.

The fact that the game doesn’t have a release date means I can’t get excited by any of the cool bits that they’ve shown.

    1. HugoStiglitz_420

I appreciate hearing the news no matter what it is but I’m angry too that sony does all this promo BS instead releasing GT5. I’ve been loyal to Sony forever & now I’m really starting to hate them. Good products or not, Sony sucks

    2. organ-donor

Agree. Instead of “Play GT5 Against Sebastien Loeb at Paris Games Week” how about I play GT5 against my roommate in my own house. :/

    3. Magic Ayrton

The good news is I bought a Panasonic 32 inch 1080p TV instead of a SONY for £399, image quality seems better too.. thanks for the delays Sony LOL IYF!

    4. HugoStiglitz_420

wow, this is one of the few times everyone agrees on GTPlanet. For once there’s no dweebs saying “It’s not that big of deal, I don’t mind waiting, or what’s 2 months after 5 years of waiting?”. I hate those people. I would love to race celebrities from home or after the game comes out but right now I’m sick Sony’s dickheaded marketing campaign. They should be rescheduling bluray movies & getting GT5 burned & ready for shipment. More people have preordered this game than what any movie will sell

    5. Erik

Seriously, the “delay” issue has been a constant topic ever scince I started following this blog. There are these “constant delays” and these “oh no, not again” and “how is it even possible!” etc etc. I never understood any of that. This game has, as far as I can tell, not been delayed any more than what can be expected in any production business. I mean, so far it’s not even delayed technically speaking, because the date of November 4th has not passed yet. Yes, they have said that they will not be able to release the game by then, so it WILL BE delayed, but it is not yet. And yes, then there is the issue about the March date, but that only applied for the Japanese market so the game is indeed delayed in Japan, but not elsewhere. Yet. Oh, and then it’s those five or six years of development time, I mean what’s up with that? I guess it’s the simple fact that work takes time. It’s a huge game, created from scratch, and just because it exists in a digital world instead of the physical world it doesn’t mean that it won’t take time to build it. Just as it takes time to build a house. Or a road. Or a car. And to be honest, we’re looking at a delay on all but the Japanese market at maybe one month, give or take a few weeks, and compared to other production industries that is a pretty damn short delay. I mean, part of a railway project here in Sweden, a tunnel through a hill in the south of Sweden, was completed earlier this year, it was planned to take five years – which by coincidence is about the development time for GT5 – but in the end it took 18 years to dig that tunnel! 13 years more than the five they planned for! And guess what, it’s a matter of work and whenever work is needed to finish a construction or a product there is a risk of delays. Just as when someone creates a video game. And if we’re looking at one month here, it’s not that bad. And yes, one may argue that a railway tunnel is a really big project, but so is GT5. It only exists in a digital world, but creating digital data requires an awful lot of work too. It’s not like drilling through rock, but it’s time consuming none the less.
A one month delay is pretty damn good. A lot better than thirteen years. You must agree on that.

  28. ICEMAN_ZIDANE

ohh that is nice , now i can show how good iam ;D
no really i think he is not so good on the ps3 ( but 1 time i saw him on GT 4 and there he was good )
