If you were an early adopter and have been enjoying the PlayStation 4 since launch or sometime shortly thereafter, chances are the contents of the 3.50 update won’t come as much of a surprise to you. For those sitting idly by waiting for the opportune moment to pounce on the purchase, even in wake of the controversial heavily-rumored “PS4K,” the first major firmware update of the year introduces a feature that’s sure to pique your interest: PC Remote Play.
The feature has expanded beyond the Vita and is now available for Windows PC and Mac, and is compatible with Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (and later), OS X 10.10 and OS X 10.11. The expanded feature will allow players to enjoy Remote Play functionality through a better second screen experience than what the PS Vita offers, and you’ll be able to use a DualShock 4 controller connected to the PC or Mac via USB.
You’ll have an option of selecting from a number of resolution and frame rate options, depending on your internet speed and connection quality.
- 360p
- 540p (Default)
- 720p
- Standard (30fps; Default)
- High (60fps)
There’s more to the latest update, including the option to finally appear offline as pictured above. A quick overview of the new social features included are as follows:
- Appear Offline
- Friend Online Notification
- User Scheduled Event
- Play Together
You can explore the other additions included in the update in greater detail here, and you can download the Remote Play Installer and experience things yourself by following the link here.

Too bad I cant get gimx to work with pc remote play. It would have been a welcome addition for this rig Im sourcing parts for.
Is it possible to use the DS4 as a PC gaming pad? If so I’d assume that the touch pad doesn’t work.
Absolutely. There are a lot of programs out there, but I personally use InputMapper. With it, the touchpad emulates mouse movement.

Sweet! I’m going to check this tomorrow. Thanks!
Finally Gran Turismo on PC. Oh wait.
*cough cough* Emulators *cough cough*
“The feature has expanded beyond the Vita” (and android devices). I’ve used it occasionally on my Xperia Z3 and now Z5.
Useful to turn on the PS4 and navigate to the Spotify app, without (in my case) having to turn on the projector.
I wonder if this wil provide some opportunities for those who want to use their logitech wheels on ps4.
Didn’t work straight away as to be expected. I’m really hoping someone with the skills writes a piece of code for it so we can use it at least via remote play.
The think I noticed is when there’s a second router between your PC and your PS4 the possibility exist that they cant find one another. What i did was let them connect to each other by using same wifi. then switch back to cable. Once they’re paired that extra router doesn’t seem to be an issue anymore. Don’t think a lot of people will run in to this problem but I’m just trying to help out where I can. :P
This is cool.
Pfft, good luck trying to use this feature in Australia, doesn’t work. Plus its a pointless idea,

Works with Fallout 4. Gran Turismo who? Never heard of him.
Say, is Power Stone still available?
This feature would have been perfect for GT PSP.
This title destroyed my mind, did not expect this.
