The story of the better-equipped and more-powerful upgrade to the original PlayStation 4 has been a fabled one. While what initially began as rumors have since been officially confirmed by Sony’s Andrew House prior to E3, the question of “When?” has loomed ever since.
While the console wasn’t shown in physical form in June, House explained that the team wanted to “ensure we have a full range of the best experiences on the new system that we can showcase in their entirety.” This originally lead to suspicions of the console being unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show, which runs September 15–18. However, a new story has emerged strongly suggesting it will be seen even sooner.
Rumors point to NEO being shown for the first time on September 7 in New York, according to sources at Gameblog and Vice Gaming. There’s history in the Big Apple location: the original PS4 console was first announced there, at PlayStation Meeting 2013. If this “technical showcase” comes to pass, it would serve as a tidy bookend to the original console’s life cycle, while kicking off a new chapter in Sony’s gaming history.
Since NEO’s confirmation, House has reaffirmed that the upcoming platform will not supersede today’s readily-available model but will instead exist alongside it. The models will not divide the player base; both will make use of the same PSN store, connecting to the same online communities, and will offer the same user experience.
All games will be playable on both the PS4 and NEO, and will support PlayStation VR when it launches in October, and there will be no NEO-exclusive titles.
UPDATE: Since the original report Sony has now confirmed the event, set for September 7th at the PlayStation Theater. The countdown begins.

GT is no more the technical showcase game for Sony… But it’s the only AAA first party game around the PS4 neo release. I hope you’re right.
So what are the practical advantages of PS4 NEO over the PS4?
I recognize the up tick in memory, video and processing specs.
But how will those upgrades be manifested in the game we already have.
For example Battlefield, PCars, Assetto Corsa and GT Sport?
Would VR mode be enhanced? What are the pro’s and cons?
Should I sell my PS4 and buy a NEO?

There won’t be any NEO specific games, But All Games will Perform Better on NEO.
Example, Some games Drop frame rates when Action Gets intense..
NEO will allow for a more constant frame rate, without any New Code in existing games.
So you might not see any frame rate drops….
It’s just the Next evolution of the PS4.
