The PlayStation VR headset is going to be the newest addition to the realm of virtual reality accessories once it appears on store shelves October 13th. Prior to release, prospective buyers in the US and Canada looking to find out more about the product – including taking it on that all-important test drive – should be pleased to hear that Sony has established places to experience virtual reality for free.
You can use the search on the official PlayStation website to locate the closest store based on zip code. While the site states Canadian locations will be available soon, it’s easy enough to find them: simply type in any working US zip code, zoom out, then drag and drop the marker.
For our Canuck readers, we’ve found a handful of locations around most major cities, typically falling on either this coming Saturday (July 16) or the next (July 23). Coverage in the US is unsurprisingly more consistent, with nearly every state having at least a few stores taking part (sorry, Maine). The earliest date we’ve seen so far is the 15th in El Segundo, California.
In addition to the brick-and-mortar locations, US gamers should keep an eye out for the ‘Road To Greatness‘ tour. The massive transport truck will be criss-crossing across the country well into the autumn months, so make sure to check the full schedule.
While this initiative only covers the two North American countries currently, there are no signs the offer won’t expand to other markets over the coming months.
The PlayStation VR headset will feature a 5.7″, 1080p OLED screen with a 120hz refresh rate. The retail price will vary based on market, with the US MSRP set at $399 ($549 CAD). PSVR is designed to work in combination with the PlayStation Camera (which will not be included in the package). The list of supported games is quite long, including a little title by the name of Gran Turismo Sport.
