Those of you still having fun on the GT Sport demo may have already noticed that, despite being past its end date, it hasn’t quite finished yet.
That’s because Polyphony Digital has given players another day to get the most out of it. The decision to extend the deadline comes on the back of server issues in the first day of play. Many players couldn’t save their progress, thanks to a requirement to be online to do so, causing a few grumbles.
This issue seems to have been down to an unexpected over-subscription for the demo — which Polyphony terms as an “Open Beta Test”. More than a million players hit the game’s servers, causing a few problems — as revealed by these Tweets from Kazunori Yamauchi himself:
Right now, we are reconfiguring the server to handle more users. This will take a bit of time, I'm sorry for the inconvenience. #GTSport

We've implemented what remedies we can for the server at the present time, and the service has now stabilized. #GTsport

I was surprised to see over 1 million players off the bat in the Open Beta. #GTsport

The extension of the demo might be a gesture of goodwill for players who missed out on the first day. Of course it may also be a test of the server solutions in anticipation of Gran Turismo Sport’s release next week.
There will be a new set of Daily Races from 1500-2100 UTC on Friday, October 13, after which the Open Beta Test will come to an end.
