Earlier this month it was announced Porsche would be coming to Gran Turismo Sport, continuing a theme within the genre now that the Electronic Arts exclusivity deal is dead.
Fans were initially greeted by the most recent 911 GT3 RS, but the 500 hp track weapon will soon be joined by other members of the Porsche family.
The news — or at least, the hint of it — comes from the official Porsche Facebook page. “Take a look at the 911 GT3 RS in this gallery,” reads one of the latest posts, “and stay tuned for more exciting Porsche content for the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport in the near future.”
With GT Sport set to release with 140 cars, there are a little over two dozen unknown vehicles according to our master car list. The class-based structure of the game offers many opportunities for modern Porsches – instead of the mid-engined 911 RSR of the real world, could we see a Polyphony-designed Gr.3 car? A Gr.4 Cayman? A steroidal Gr.B Macan?!
There’s also the distinct possibility that Porsche may join the ranks of the Vision Gran Turismo program. First started in 2013 as part of the 15th anniversary of the franchise, the endeavor is said to be “not even halfway done” according to series creator Kazunori Yamauchi.
The oldest car spotted in GT Sport so far has been a 2009 model, leading many to believe the game will focus exclusively on modern metal. While this might be the case on day one, it could very well change with post-release content, especially if Yamauchi intends on the game eventually including 500 cars.
