For the past several weeks the team at Kunos Simulazioni have been riding a hot streak; the news just keeps coming without an end in sight. With Assetto Corsa’s console release imminent, it appears the team are full steam ahead leading up to its launch.
Coming hot off the heels of Marco Massarutto teasing the Porsche 935/78 that will be included in the upcoming Porsche DLC set to release this autumn, the Executive and Licensing Manager at Kunos is back to pull the veil off of another car that will make way to the game. Albeit a lesser-known sportscar from the Czech Republic, the Praga R1.
An out-and-out track weapon, the Praga R1 is powered by a Renault Formula-sourced engine making 210 horsepower. While 210 horses may sound like a paltry amount, the R1 weighs in at 592kg (1305lbs) and can rocket itself to 60 in less than 3 seconds, and onto a top speed of more than 160 mph.
While a release date has yet to be announced, it stands to reason that the Praga R1 will still be released alongside the likes of the Ferrari 488 GTB, FXX K, and the Audi A1 S1 when the game releases onto consoles in a little over one month’s time, as was the intention (scroll down to the last paragraph) when the game was originally slated for release last month.

For those interested, here’s a mini-review of the Praga R1 from Henry Catchpole who describes it as a “mini LMP”. Low on power and high on downforce, not your usual closed cockpit racer, should be tremendous fun and make for great racing.

I only recently happened upon this whilst looking for pictures of Yamaha’s R1 engine…
Cool looking car, very much in the spirit of lightweight constructors of the past.
Agreed. Would love to see this vs the Lotus 311.
On a related note, this sim (especially on PC with incredible car, track, and interface mods galore) is a world-beating masterpiece. If you grew up as a fan of Gran Turismo and feel that the series has lost it’s way, then take solace in the fact that some wily italians have picked up the torch which honestly has been sitting on the ground for about 6 years now..
Praga is amazing car. Its pretty popular here in Czech, i see this car many times on race track here in Czech this year. Looking foward to drive it in virtual world.
hoping for the turbo…..
AC just keeps getting better.
Im a forza guy, do you guys think itll be hard to adapt to asseto corsa on console? im still on the fence about it.
i was a granturismo guy before i got into AC in 2014. Took about a month to get used to it but that was with a controller back when controller support sucked, from what i understand the controller support is vastly superior now so likely will take 5 or so hours to get the hang of it, getting those milliseconds off after that will be harder of course though
Relax, go for it… Using a wheel and starting off with basic assists (Paddle gear, small TC, ABS) took me less than a day on pCars on PS4 and AC on PC. With the controller and no assists, it’ll be tricky. The thing about these sims is, you react closer to the way you do irl, it’ll be natural…
Release the shackles, be a ‘racing game’ guy.
Controller support is better, but by no means is it good. Even the slightest wheel correction woth a controller can throw your car completely out of control. Ive been paying AC qith a controller for a few years now and the percision needed for taking corners or correcting a slide is non-existant….this game was clearly made for a wheel period. I am getting a G27 hopefully soon….
I’m always trying out different simulators to see which ones suit me the best. I’ve been into Gran Turismo since the second one, and I’ve played many other games such as the Forza series, Toca Series, GTR2, rFactor, Project CARS, Dirt Rally…even R: Racing Evolution, Auto Modellista, and Driving Emotion Type-S to name a few. I just can’t get Assetto Corsa to work on my PC for some stupid reason (seems to be trying to read information off an external drive that doesn’t exist?), but I can get rFactor 2 to work…
But to answer your question, don’t be afraid to try something new like this, especially with a game that has such a strong reputation. Sure it may take some time to get used to the physics and input methods (i.e. adjusting the dead-zone or saturation of the analog sticks), but that’s how I felt at first too. I prefer the physics of many other simulator game over Gran Turismo and Forza, but I still find myself playing those games as well.I would recommend maybe getting a wheel.
I know I’m psyched to have Asseto Corsa coming to my PS4.
Just to be a pedant, it’s “imminent” and “out and out” :)
Never heard of the car before, looks fun though!
The former is definitely a typo (that’s what I get for writing this up in the wee hours of the morning), but the latter is correct.
Oh, I forgot the ‘d’. Hah!
Wasn’t trying to criticise, just thought you’d appreciate the heads up :)
Absolutely. Thanks for pointing those out.
I’m from the Czech Republic and I never heard of the car either. :D
AC is on fire.
:P
