The much anticipated 1.4 patch for Project CARS is now rolling out, with the PC and PS4 versions already available, no word yet on when the XBox One version will be released. Andy Garton, SMS Development Director, confirmed the PS4 version, saying “The PS4 patch is now ready and will be released asap today.”
We provided full details of the contents of the 1.4 patch recently, detailing its focus on bug fixes, FFB issues and graphics tweaks for the PS4 version.
Today also sees a new Community Event and the reopening of two previous ones.
The new Community Event continues the trend of linking events in Project CARS to the Motorsport calendar, which means we get treated to a ride around the infamous Le Mans circuit in an Audi R18 TDi. This event is also round seven of the 2015 SMS-R Driver Network Championship season.
SMS have also reopened two of the very first two rounds of the 2015 SMS-R Driver Network Championship season, which take in Barcelona in a Formula A and Silverstone in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3.
All three Community Events will run until the 15th June 2015 and you can visit our Project Cars Forum for more discussion.
See more articles on Community Events.
Only problem is that the patch has introduced a new bug in which your tires will be flat after a pit stop in career mode. Checked the Project Cars forums and it’s a widespread issue on PS4, SMS is aware of it, and hopefully there’s a fix soon.
Just have to give SMS and especially Ian massive props for listening to their users, reacting to feedback and addressing all major issues so promptly, all the time communicating with their customers. It was a little frustrating waiting for the update to drop but that was not their fault. Kaz should learn something from this, considering AC will be in the mix by the time GT7/Sport comes out. It’s a relationship, and those who relate to their customers better will do better. It’s 2015. A lot has changed in gaming and it’s PR.
This patch has now made my Fanatec GT2 wheel not work with my Logitech G25 pedals (someone else has reported the same problem). With all the bugs regarding older Fanatec wheels, I’ve not even been able to put 1 lap in yet.
Just figured out that you have to calibrate the pedals in a Project CARS menu to get them to work.
Is this game any good? I’ve been thinking about buying it, the graphics look very good.
It very much depends on what you are looking for. As far as physics go its the best on console at the present time, however it is an unashamedly Motorsports focused title and all that comes with it.
As such while you have a huge range of settings to adjust, they are limited to what you can do in reality based on the series the car would race in, it also means you don’t get upgrades (such as slapping on a big fat turbo).
Personally for me its the one of the best racing titles to hit consoles in a very long time. I would suggest taking a look around the pCars forums and see what people are saying, take a look at the videos (you will find a lot) and see how it grabs you.
I’ll second everything Scaff said and just add that if you like driving and racing you will love pCARS. I’ve had more memorable and exciting races going from 16th to 7th and 8th to 3rd than I have ever had in GT, much as I love it. If you’re just into car collecting and pimping your ride then maybe give it a miss, but as a driving title, there’s nothing to match it on console right now. If you’re in doubt, buy a hard copy. At least you can sell it if it’s not your bag.
I’m happy with the patch especially because it came with a very nice surprise. Taillight reflections. The game didn’t have them on console when the game launched so I’m surprised that they added it in and didn’t even mention it in the patch notes. To me that’s the most noticeable change if I hadn’t read the patch notes
Yeah. I guess SMS does Ninja updates like PD. The fixed the controller issue on PC too.
These guys are pretty good. I hope PD is watching. If they are we may have two go to driving Sims on consoles one day. No that I have control, I may even do he zero to hero and run some carts now. Very nice SMS
Hears the deal people……I had no idea SMS was going to drop the update today because we never see that from another driving game we all know well.
So what a surprise when I get home from work, fire up the PS4 and see that an update for Project Cars had arrived. Five minutes later I’m in the McLaren GT3 car.
What a concept, release the updates on Fridays so your customers have the entire weekend to enjoy the fixes. Or figure out what’s wrong/missing whatever the case. Hear that Kaz?
Anyway, the controller problem that kept me from fully enjoying the game is fixed.
In fact my steering is too numb now. And sure enough when I go to the “Control” and select any of the three modes I get a controllable configuration. And I was able to negotiate Catalunya GP the way I should. No twitching when I attempt to go straight and no fear of turning into corners.
I’m not sure what else was mended by 1.4 update. But for sure DS4 players will be happy with the control now. I suspect from some of the screen queues I saw that the save of setup configurations has been addressed too. I’ll check the PCars Forums.
THANK YOU SMS. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. On-line here I come :) Well after I tune some cars that is……………………….OMG, I may be able to control the GT Planet RUF now!
After that I’m going to tear up Watkins Glen. Happy Friday indeed.
Scaff, (and others) thank you for publishing fixes for the controller. But we shouldn’t need them any longer. And a car pack is out for PC. This might be old news. It’s the Icons Car Pack. I’m going to check for it in PS Store.
It’s in there. The car pack launched on all platforms almost at the same time
Thank you SMS, loving this game.
What exactly is a “community event “?
As I understand it (haven’t actually had a go of one yet) it’s a time trial with a set car and set track. Correct me if I’m wrong anyone who’s actually done it.
It’s a time trial event with leaderboards. Look under the Driver Network tab on the main menu
Dang Scaff you’ve really pumping out these articles. Anyways I’m glad 1.4 has finally came out; I noticed a huge difference in the AI when it started to rain. Keep up the good work SMS.
So that’s finally fixed now? Yay I can play again!
The other great thing about rain racing is now there are taillight reflections on PS4 and Xbone.
Looks like I can finally get back to playing Project CARS, I put it on hold, because it was simply torture to play it.
