Project CARS 2 Demo Arrives on all Major Platforms

Yes, you’re reading the title correctly. Two months after the full game launched, the demo for Project CARS 2 has landed on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

The demo offers three cars and one track for players to experience. Austria’s Red Bull Ring is the location, and the trio covers an important range of the game’s myriad racing disciplines:

  • Ferrari 488 GT3
  • Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4
  • Formula Renault 3.5

It’s a nice spread to get players’ feet wet. The full game features over 180 cars, two dozen racing disciplines, and 60 tracks (all featuring weather and dynamic time of day). We loved the road-going Lambo in our PCARS2 preview last summer, and can confirm it’s just as enjoyable here.

Curiously, the demo also includes updates for both the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. In fact, it features a few updates that aren’t actually available in the full version of the game yet. Slightly Mad Studios has stated these fixes are coming in an “imminent update”, and with the demo out in the wild, we imagine the substantial patch isn’t far behind.

SMS has taken an unusual approach here. There was a hard no-demo stance leading up to the game’s release, meaning only those in the game’s WMD program — or lucky enough to enjoy the game at any major media events — got to try it in any serious capacity before launch.

Then again, this isn’t the first time this year we’ve seen a team reverse a previous decision on a beta or demo. Nonetheless, a PCARS2 demo is a good thing to see. An available test drive option should give curious sim racers a better idea of what the game’s really about — and just in time for Black Friday deals, too!
