PS4 to Make “Incredible Difference” for Gran Turismo 7, says Kazunori Yamauchi

Playstation-4-5

While speaking to GamesTM magazine in a recent interview, Kazunori Yamauchi made some interesting comments regarding the development of Gran Turismo 7, which is apparently set to benefit greatly from the power of the PlayStation 4 console:

“Everything will be running naturally,” Yamauchi assured us. “PS3 was much, much more difficult. The high quality of data that we have being rendered on the PS4 I think is going to make an incredible difference.”

yamauchi-speaks-to-journalists-at-silverstone-gta

He went on to mention Polyphony Digital’s vision for GT7:

“For GT7, myself and my staff have a clear vision: to do everything we couldn’t do in GT6. We want to make it very Gran Turismo. By that I mean it’s going to be a game that matches the very era that we live in, in 2015 or 2016.”

To describe the game as one which “matches the very era we live in” is an interesting choice of words, and will no doubt be a topic of debate in our GT7 forums for months to come. Check out the latest issue of GamesTM magazine for their complete interview with Kazunori.

I didn’t begin my GT life until the release of GT5. After playing GT5 too many hours, I went back and played previous versions on my old PlayStation Hardware that was boxed-up. The franchise has been great. It hasn’t been perfect, but PD needs to strike a balance between the intense demand for new releases vs. waiting for the development of a new version with lots of new content. I think the expectations are too high. GT6 is a fantastic game given the PS3 limitations. The alternative would have been to release a “better” (to what degree I don’t know) only on PS4. If they did that, it would have been a terrible business decision. Be happy that we have the GT series! And yes, we have the right to complain and hold the desire to be heard, but at the same time, life is better with GT (even with GT6)…

Ah the famous statement “Make an incredible difference”, just like in the PS2 and PS3 era. Same old lines. PS2 made our dreams come true…oh no wait….it’s PS3….wrong again…it’s PS4….

    It’s getting boring real fast!

  4. berettagt88

better have a new Chevy Camaro I’m fed up with having to drive the 2010 Camaro SS and build replica’s of Camaro’s that should of been in GT6 on launch it’s total BS Chevy builds a 580hp Camaro and GT6 doesn’t get it WTF! The GTR is lame!

  5. Fat Tyre

Kaz just ditch ps2 assets (a must if you want a game representative of this era), stop playing the numbers’ game. You have a small team? Fine, release a smaller game. Do something that is manageable, GT grew so much it just got too big for your small studio. Fixing sounds for 400 cars would take considerably less than doing it for 1200+ cars. Rework the tracks and cars that are incredibly dated and make them come back in all their glory just like you did with Apricot Hill, but some things have to go. Just like people didn’t commit suicide when the Ferrari F1s dissapeared for GT6 most people won’t care if you ditch 3 of 4 toyota yaris (just keep one and make it premium if there is none) and do the same for the rest. Add the simple things that matter like quali sessions and then add stupid things like driving on Mars. Rant over i hate typing on my phone.

I think the power of the PS4 and the talent of Polyphony will produce something spectacular in GT7. If you look back over previous GT”s Polyphony have always set the standard on new hardware, I expect the same on PS4 and if you take what they have managed to squeeze out of the old PS2 with GT6, a game that is being compared with next gen racers, then I can’t imagine what they can do with the most powerful console out there. The PS4 could give them a huge and insurmountable edge over anything MS can produce.

  7. jlmcmillan1978

What a load of bulls%$t this is. We know standard cars are going to be in GT7, so what hope is there for it ‘matching the era we live in’. It’s just getting insulting the way PD gets everyone on the hype train, only to let us down. Long term fan. Fan no more.

Does anyone use the (Data Logger)? I have a Ford SVT Lightning & a Silverado concept that make almost the same lap time in under a second and when I tinkered the gear ratios on the ford to match the stock gear ratios (automatic) on the silverado>>> I was impressed at what my eyes could tell me. My brother and I did a drag race and found both vehicles with automatic transmissions to shift with in 3mph difference. Then when taken to the race track, they both finished side by side. I’m not sure how many other people use the data logger, but if you did you would find it very easy to just use automatic transmissions and make 2 vehicles drive almost identically. As a matter of fact, I also have a dodge neon & a Hyundai that literally shift at the same time, or at least use the same gears around corners < that is impressive. So take 2 similar cars…keep the original transmission of the faster vehicle, then tune the 2nd vehicles hp/kg ratio and gear ratios to match the faster of the 2 STOCK cars. When brought together in perfect harmony you have a very close 2 player battle. We all know 2 player battles not only lag less but the replays also look better!

    1. Johnnypenso

Sorry fellas, that ain’t gonna happen. Big Day 1 patches and endless fixes and updates are the way it is these days so you better get used to it…for all games not just GT.

  9. Handlebar

Baloney – the only “big things” Kaz wants for GT7 are big payouts for non-delivered content.

He even hung @jordan out to dry with the “will answer questions in a few weeks” column.

Have played GT5, I got played by Kaz in GT6…

    PD – Vaporware….

  10. alphaaro

    What I expect to see:
All cars premium – premium vehicle detail and sounds
Physical and Visual damage – pretty much like other Triple A titles
Realistic effects – easy no brainer.
Vehicle Customization – paint, vinyl, decals, body kits, wheels because we love that.
Improved Arcade – Weather and Time settings for all tracks.
Improved Career – Surprise me, raise the bar, be unlike any other
Open World??? – I think I am rambling alot here now but boy would online will be a hell lot of fun.

    1. alphaaro

Oh and please no microtransactions and paid DLCs. This is a terrible business strategy to make money. Spoils a company’s reputation and makes money hungry hooligans in my honest opinion. Where is the good old days of the PS2, XBOX and Gamecube.

    2. Johnnypenso

Personally I’d much rather have the massive DLC available that Forza has and pay for it at my discretion, than the limited and somewhat weak overall DLC we’ve had in GT6.

    3. TRLWNC7396

If a paid DLC has value, I would be happy to get it. Like my biggest wish is for all of the events and challenges from previous GT’s to be available to play in the current version. That would be incredible, and I would pay $5 to $20 for the chance to use them in this game.

This would also mean that all of the tracks from those games (and maybe the cars) would come with those updates.

      THAT would be worth it!

But, yeah, one car for even $1…. No….. Give me a pack that makes it interesting and worth it, and we’ll talk. Like the car and track pack for 5. I bought that one, but there were no events, so I ended up not using it much if at all….

    4. Tenacious D

“Personally I’d much rather have the massive DLC available that Forza has and pay for it at my discretion…”

You seem to have missed how much anger T10 garnered at holding back some of Forza’s prime cars to release as DLC.

Anyway, everyone wants Kaz to make GT7 their way. We do have a harmony of opinion in many ways, so I expect a lot of what we want to make it in. All cars being Premium… well, good luck with that, but it should be a much better game. Much more improved than GT6 was over 5.

    5. Johnnypenso

Why would I care about the anger at T10’s “holding back cars”? I’m perfectly capable of thinking independently and making up my own mind without having to submit to the mob mentality. Fact is Forza’s free DLC alone trumps all of the GT6 DLC so far, the paid DLC is just the gravy.

    6. Tenacious D

Your post makes no sense then, because you think it’s fine that a company does things to anger the fanbase… as long as it’s not Gran Turismo.

What you think is fine is another reason I’m not interested in Forza 5. I really don’t like that a company will hold back choice models to essentially hold a fanbase hostage. “Pay up or no have.” Because very darn few will want to pony up $10 or whatever for a 50’s Car Pack, except for the true die hard car fanatics, so they load up the car list with cars that very few gamers are clamoring for. Can you tell me with straight fonts that you can’t wait to race a Javelin? And how about that open hand M$ puts out at every stage in F5? “You can have this if you give us monies.” ;D

I’m not insisting at all that all DLC be free, in any game, just don’t be cheap about it like that.

    7. Johnnypenso

You’re so confused. As I already said, I’m perfectly capable of thinking independently. You pretend to represent the interests of others all the time and it’s a crock, you’re here for yourself and what you want.

Would I rather get a bunch of free cars and three free tracks and the option to buy 100 more…or….a half dozen free real cars a few fantasy cars and one track the no options to buy more? Silly question.

    8. Tenacious D

Oh yeah, I deem to represent all Gran Turismo fans and am only here for what I want, do I. Let me see about that…

Peeeps who hate the car sounds, here for what they want? Check.

Doods who hate the Standard cars, here for what they want? Bingo.

Komrades who think the bots should be recycled, here for what they want? Da.

Do they carry on as if the gamingverse agrees 110% with them? Often.

      Whatever, Johnny.

Now as for the confusion, I don’t think you’re helping your side all that much. See, we have two games, Forza 5 and GT6.

      Forza 5
17 Track locations (in a critique video where they scrolled through the tracks, there were only 13, but I’ll give T10 the benefit of some free DLC which is actually used in the career)
218 cars (DLC, no clue, couldn’t care less)

      Gran Turismo 6
      39 Track locations
      447 Premium cars
      152 Super-Standard cars
642 Standard cars (this is according to Vag Gomez and contributors, so yell at him if it’s inaccurate)
      1241 total cars

Now, I understand that you don’t care for a big car list, just nibbles here and there of choice models. But I would insist that if I’m going to spend money on a game, that the developer not hold back content which was in the PREVIOUS version at supposedly pretty darn high quality, to offer instead as DLC I’d have to spend real money on.

Do you think it would be just dandy for GT7 to offer everything under the sun for real money, down to car upgrades? Maybe that’s a trick question…

    9. Tenacious D

I think it’s very relevant to the matter of DLC. One game took the time to make DLC a big issue because of its puny size. One game made DLC much less relevant with the wealth of cars available. Capiche now?

    10. Johnnypenso

Apples and oranges, and as usual, you miss the context that makes everything make sense.

Old game+old console+rehashed 10 year old content vs.

      New game+next gen console+franchise reboot

I’d be more than happy if PD did the same, dropped all the substandard content, and sold us lots of brand new, next-gen ready content. Old rehashed cars and tracks I’ve already paid for and will look way out of place on a new system, have zero value for me.

    11. BrunetPaquet

Oh, great… the clash of the century. *sigh*

Tenacious D the Gran Turismo Priest who defends Gran Turismo no matter what by saying every other games suck.
      VS.
JohnnyPenso the guy who likes to blindly toss his cash away for DLC and saying that if you don’t know what is to expect by liking something, you’re a fool in his book…

Grab your popcorn, people, this is gonna be REAL big. Diehard fanboyism versus Blind paying.

  11. vrossi

Kaz..you’ve lost all credibility with your fan base.
    We’ve heard all this before.
We’ll believe it when we see it.

    1. Tenacious D

I think the “fanbase” has their own opinions, thank you.

Just because the whiners have driven people away from here, don’t think everyone at GT Planet throws epic dramas over the series.

    2. Johnnypenso

Pretty sure the GTApologists who think the game is paaaarfect or that Kaz can do no wrong and everything is Sony’s fault, have driven away their fair share as well.

  12. kapnk006

Cool, sounds like we’re getting a cross platform software release of GT7 so I can buy a car on my smartphone, tune it and manage my garage on my PC and then race it on my PS4. That’s awesome news!

  13. toms318bmw

Incredible difference eh, so there will be engine swap, drivetrain swap, all premium cars, more tracks, more cars, thats hiw id rate the word “incredible” one things for sure im not holding my breath, kaz always over hypes

    1. HuskyGT

That would definitely be nice, plus a better Career Mode and more customizable Arcade Mode.

But to me this just sounds like more gimmiky stuff like that lap recorder thing, better graphics (not bad, but alone they don’t make the game), more events outside the game and stuff that at long term don’t really improve the game experience.

We’re just speculating though. There is still a long way to go. But it is very difficult to feel the hype since deep inside, we all know what to expect. GT7 will sadly be my first GT that I won’t buy blindly on release, nor I will get the console for. I’ll wait for reviews here in GTPlanet.

    1. sailworksman

“So there will be engine swap, drivetrain swap, all premium cars” – Forza has been doing this for years. “More tracks, sure. More cars, not-New models please, dump tired old has-been’s since GT1. I agree with both of you. Believe it when I see it.

  14. oli440

For me, GT6 was the first let down in the series. Fortunately, it was with valid reason. Although some features are questionable (such as the duplicate cars, the paint chips and so on) the quality of GT6 was let down primarily because the technology behind the game was quite simply outdated.

Now with the PS4, or the ‘blank canvas’ as Kaz has quoted, it’s the perfect opportunity for PD to start from scratch, for the first time since GT HD, all the way back in 2007.

GT7 will not only look, play and sound better, but I’m confident that we will get it much earlier, as the development process will be far faster with next gen consoles.

I would be a little surprised if we got GT7 in 2015. I would target late 2016 or early 2017, just to make sure that the game is the best that it can be before launch. Hopefully the bulk of its content will be avaalible on day 1 too.

I know PD are capable of amazing us once again. They seem to have a clear objective, and I wish them the very best of luck in GT7’s development.

    1. Tenacious D

I was let down by GT5 first, because I was expecting a much different game. The Standard cars were fine, but finding out that I’d have to jump through extra hoops because of the XP system – couldn’t even buy a car or RACE! until I had the XP points, B-Spec was lackluster and Bob was hard to get to race sometimes, the paint shop had NO paint so I’d have to “grind up a car” every time I wanted to paint one… there were a lot of weird things about GT5. Still, it was the most enjoyment I’d had in a racing game.

GT6 is sort of the same deal, though mostly because the single player offline “career” is too short, and Arcade is gimped. Like most people, I want the bots to be faster and keep a MUCH tighter field in a race, not spread out more than a minute and a half from first to last. Still, it’s the most enjoyment I’ve had in a racing game.

I’m expecting a LOT of improvement in GT7, and it should manifest. People seem to keep forgetting that making a great game on PS3 is like building an F-16 in a bottle, as the Cell Engine is really powerful but you have these weird bottlenecks between the CPU, GPU and system ram. Not only that, but the GPU was based on a 2004 NVidia design, so the serious graphics were done by those devs who were wizards at using the SPE processors to help out the RSX GPU, and they still couldn’t work miracles, like giving all cars headlight lighting in night races. PS4 rocks, and GT7 has all the potential to take advantage of it.

The naysayers have a point. Kaz and the team have to remember how to make a great game again. Don’t get bogged down in collecting car horns and paint chips and other trivial things. Keep GT7 a racing game. Give it events like you did in GT4, lots of them. Kaz, use your amazing credentials you built up in making Gran Turismo relevant to the automotive world to bring automakers into the game. Talk to as many enthusiast level groups around the world as you can, because most racers get started in karts and enthusiast racing. Take advantage of that FIA license to grab as much of real world of racing as you can and squeeze it into GT7. Make the career a real blue jeans to flameproof racing suit career, and make it long. Add in many of the things in the Q&A board, because we not only have good ideas, but know what we want. Race Mod, Livery Editor, Event Maker, Course Maker – a super one, Leaderboards, a massive online system allowing us to create racing leagues along with full blown racing seasons online… make it so, as much as you can. And the world will come running to buy it. Me first. ;D

    2. Johnnypenso

      Pot meet kettle.

TenD one day – “You guys are whiners, you are overly critical, the game is fine, enjoy it as it is, you guys are exaggerating…blah blah blah”.

TenD next day – “Kaz and the team have to remember how to make a great game again.”…then proceeds to describe what he wants GT to be and surprise!!…it’s Project Cars!

    3. Tenacious D

Oh! Project CARS has a lotsa cars?

      Project CARS has Race Mod?

      Project CARS has NOT!

Thus Project CARS has some of my interest… some. I already have a game called Assetto Corsa which might have as many cars, a nice selection of tracks, and perhaps much better physics than P CARS, and I piddled around in it because I really missed the tangibly different experience in GT6. And if P CARS has the same style “career” as AC, meh, SO different than Gran Turismo… not.

I know this goes right in one eyeball and out the other for you and many of your fellows, Johnny, but a lot of us keep coming back to Gran Turismo because like fans say with EVERY game in the gamingverse, it offers something cool some other game doesn’t. This may flummox you to your grave, that some GT fans don’t love your pet list of racers you pet, but that’s taste and preference and being human.

And this is the difference between me and you. I don’t go around stalking people because they don’t like the pet game I do nearly as much, or perhaps don’t care much for it at all. I’ll give AC and P CARS and RaceRoom or whatever the time of day, and even Forza 5 when I feel like it, because someone’s doing something right enough with their games to have a fanbase. These games are like a buffet. We can pick and chose as we like. And Johnny, this even includes Gran Turismo. And we may even prefer it, as much as it might irk you.

    4. Tenacious D

One more thing Johnny, before you get all hyper about GT6 not having Race Mod. It does have the next best thing, being able to modify street cars. What does P CARS let us do? Change tire pressure? Not even sure about that, and I’ve never fussed with pressure in any game that does because I figure the dev should be smart enough to inflate the tires properly to start with, or they’re idiots.

    5. Johnnypenso

The console king gives us all a lecture on tire pressure tuning…lol….because you know, real race teams never change the tire pressure from track to track, day to day, session to session to adapt to the conditions. You know, the kind of thing you do in a game when you are simulating racing. Simulating…perhaps you’re not familiar with the word…lol. Precious.

  15. SavageEvil

Ahh this place never fails to make for cringe worthy reading of commentary following anything having to do with Kaz, PD and GT. I wonder why many people still come to air their complaints repeatedly, soapbox fetish perhaps?!

Ohh Kaz is making a GT for PS4, color me surprised and shocked. I await the showing off of the engine sometime around TGS next year or possibly even earlier at E3 as a teaser if I assume that PD has been working on GT7 since PS4 was announced to the public. I’m still plugging away at my GT6 which still continues to amaze me with that Sierra course, I race that thing daily and honestly it’s the best course when it comes to surface interaction. Nothing comes close to fun as tearing around the course with my tuned up GT3/GTS specced cars(of which I have about 12) on sport hard tires. It’s like music to my ears, barreling down the lengthy straights and then hard braking into an uphill curve and the tires chirp as the wheels are literally hopping from lateral movement. Or the fun bounce you get when going from road to bridge, so many little things that make me grin from ear to ear that many of the issues I have with the game melt away until the race is over.
GT has got some crazy issues worst one is the sound tech has really bad ears as he thinks all cars have high pitched exhaust notes and transmissions drown out everything else. I think that PD needs a community manager to field some ideas that may make sense to include in the game. One thing I find baffling is the lack of use of the L and R triggers in menus, why is it I can’t use those buttons to increase and decrease values? Things that make sense you know.
After building out my own GT3 spec cars, I realized that I would need a fairly detailed rule sheet in order to run a solid and fair competition. We need a very detailed room creator, even more so than what we have now, I mean to be able to limit cars down to specific aero attachments and specific power upgrades and lock in specific tires grades.

Instead of all the moaning and groaning try something else that might work a whole lot better, since I know moaning does nothing but annoy folks. Actively doing something to alleviate the issue or bring notice does more, but I digress some folks will continue to sit in the corner and complain as if that has ever done anything. Actively complaining isn’t doing anything, someone creating a forum and opening a respectful dialog works wonders, no one likes to be bi$$thed at, trust me it’s much easier to tell you to f$$k off than listen to demeaning words coming from someone who has literally no idea the amount of crap you deal with on a daily basis.
Let’s get the respect back, watch your mouths and mind your manners. Has nothing to do with kissing up or letting their failings slide, fact you fail on a daily basis(not all is known to you at that time) so what such is life. You want a better game and they want a game that makes you happy. How can that happen when all you do is sling derogatory insults for mistakes at them? If you think insulting folks gets them in the right mood to work for you, you must be living in an alternate dimension. You can point out faults without being insulting, demeaning or condescending, it’s not necessary at all. In fact as an adult you should learn to speak to people in the manner you would like being spoken to no matter your status.
I went off-topic but I used to enjoy coming to this site but in recent years the conversation has gone from wishful to a bunch of bitter old men. Seriously life has way more problems but you’re nearly seething with rage at the failings of a video game. Has anyone worked in the production sector before? How do you feel when someone berates your efforts? It’s not like you knew of the failings right away, things happen in the wild that do not happen during testing. Which would you respond to better, some angry guy telling you where to stick your product or someone telling you that the product was not up to satisfaction and that they hope that you would look at some of these faults they found to improve? Don’t throw helpful ideas while feeling the need to toss in that what they gave you was a piece of crap. Respect, you want it when it’s due to you so perhaps you should show it first. In spite of how people treat you treat them how you want to be treated, you aren’t responsible for how they treat you but how you treat them. That is the hardest thing for a human to do, keep that pride in check.

    Sorry TL;DR.
Criticize without insulting, it’s unnecessary and won’t further your cause at all. Just because you don’t see change doesn’t mean things aren’t being worked on, their schedule is very different from the one you suddenly created after finding a problem. Be respectful and mindful of what you say, treat everyone as you would like to be treated. Yes this is very much a necessary post, just read some of the comments below and eventually above my post. Come on now we all want a better, deeper and more fun experience…you won’t get it slinging insults at anyone let alone the developer. Let’s all calm down take a deep breath and just smile and laugh.

    1. TRLWNC7396

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou! This is a wonderful statement! PD has an incredible opportunity to do well here. I WILL be waiting to see what they do, but I do have faith that they will blow us away if Sony doesn’t step in and mess with them.

I am worried that they won’t make a game, but I will hold out hope that they are doing some amazing things.

At the same time, griping is NOT a good thing, and NOT what I am going to keep up. Please respect first, and condemn kindly. It’s far more worth it to you and the people you deal with.

    2. research

“that many of the issues I have with the game melt away until the race is over.”

I’m sorry dude but you lost me at ‘race’ …

    3. Magic Ayrton

People are “moaning and groaning” for good reason.
What allows you to tell us what to think and feel anyway? For me there are far too many issues with GT and I feel that they need to be addressed before it’s too late.. and no more false promises, delays and general BS to the fans.

    4. SDSPOWER01

You have my total respect SavageEvil, indeed people criticize to get the best out of the product but I completely agree with the above statement. Despite how angered or frustrated they are (which i know its not easy) they should know how to tone their argument or opinions in a much tolerable and respectful way. It’s not because of we want to tell you what to do it’s about doing what is best for everyone to understand each other. Show the support and show what is best for the community to reunite once again. This will not be easy but it will be a good start.

    5. Johnnypenso

Same old, same old. “You must behave in the way that I approve of or you are a bitter old man or you have a soapbox fetish” (highly ironic given the tl;dr nature of the post)

    6. Tenacious D

So, Johnny, you insist that all the posting and critiquing here is level headed, thoughtful, respectful, open to opposing sides and all views considered politely, with no drama queening, exaggerating or flat out making things up.

What GT Planet are you on?? Seriously, dude…

No, I’m completely with SavageEvil. This place has become a frat house where flaming is the currency of exchange. And it stinks. I sincerely doubt you’d put up with being treated the way some posters go completely off the rails here.

    7. Johnnypenso

Yes because it’s ok to call people “bitter old man” when they don’t agree with you. That’s a good example of tolerant, respectful posting. Pot, meet kettle.

  16. HaylRayzor

We’re never going to give you what we promised on GT6 but we’ll make up for it by promising even more for GT7.

  17. imported_skidmark

Lets see if kaz can make me want a ps4!. He wants to put “everything that was missing from gt6″… no wonder gt fans are miffed all the time. Gt has some tough competition now,no dought about it. Turn 10 have had 2 top racers out already on current gen and forza 6 will land this time next year..be interesting if gt7 lands at the same time! :D

    1. imported_skidmark

It was a joint effort, some of the tech used in horizon 2 is a first for the industry.. fingers crossed itl get used in f6. Forward+ tiled rendering is the way forward for xb. Ive seen many, many ppl sating the image quality in h2 is the best theyve seen and its open world!? incredible work.

Having sim racers at a locked 60fps i dont expect the best grfx but im prepared to be proved wrong this time nxt year.

    2. imported_skidmark

Hmmm if you mean the launch it had,yes im very aware…and they have somewhat rectified it with free dlc. Forza 6 will be epic, ive no dought about it. You have to tip your hat at T10 for starting a’fresh for current gen, like they did with f3. Forza now has some of the most accurate laser scanned tracks out there, especially the Ring!! :)

I hope they both do well, but i think GT has more to prove after 5-6,theres alot of unhappy gt fans.

  18. Jaycue58

Lets hope that he keeps his promises this time as i still feel that i have been conned with GT6 with what is quite apparent a half developed game sold at a premium price,i have played every GT game and this current game is so full of bugs its almost defies belief that an organisation like PD would allow a game like this,to be sold to the general public, finally, whenever they upload a new update another bug rears its head.Sorry about the moan

  19. Allek

The success of the Playstation 2 probably made Sony think they could do whatever they wanted with the PS3 console, hence the divided RAM, the architecture of the Cell processor and other bizarre hardware options that made this platform so hard to code for.

One day Kaz, retired, will write a book telling how much he wanted to strangle people at Sony for delivering such a cr@ppy piece of hardware for developers to work with, limiting any ambitious ideas they might want to implement into their games.

PD nailed it four times (GT1 ~ GT4), and failed twice (GT5/6). They still have credit to me. I’ll wait.

    1. TRLWNC7396

I wish I could give thousands of likes to this post. Sony got too big for themselves, and thought they could get away with anything. Oh, the travesty of pride. When men THINK they are wise…..

However, this is also coming back to PD and Kaz. He thinks that everyone wants only what he can give, and he is losing his grip on the situation.

He needs to build a game first, then improve on the simulator.

    2. phosphor112

Kaz has publicly said the PS3 is a pain to work with and even said that, in some respects, i slower than the PS2.

      http://venturebeat.com/2013/06/14/how-dangerous-race-driving-helped-sonys-kazunori-yamauchi-design-gran-turismo-6-interview/

“When the [PlayStation 2] came out, one unique characteristic of that system was that the screen fill rate was very fast. Even looking back now, it’s very fast. In some cases, it’s faster than the PS3. There, we were able to use a lot of textures. It was able to do that read-modify-write, where it reads the screen, you take the screenshot, and you modify it and send it back. It could do that very quickly.

I don’t know if anybody remembers, but when the PS2 first came out, the first thing I did on that was a demo for the announcement. I showed a demo of GT3 that showed the Seattle course at sunset with the heat rising off the ground and shimmering. You can’t re-create that heat haze effect on the PS3 because the read-modify-write just isn’t as fast as when we were using the PS2. There are things like that. Another reason is because of the transition to full HD.

The PS3 was a combination of a poor GPU with an SPU that’s really fast if you use it right. It’s not a very well-balanced machine. It’s hard to use the hardware properly. That’s one reason why it took us five years to develop GT5. Using the SPU properly, though, that in itself is really interesting. On the PS3, in the demo, we showed the adaptive tessellation. That’s the kind of technology that you normally wouldn’t be able to do unless you were on the PS4-generation of machines. When you optimize the use of the SPU properly, you can do that even on the PS3.”

    3. Johnnypenso

Many of the mistakes PD made were in the design of the gameplay itself and the tradeoffs they made between graphics and gameplay, neither of which were inherent in the limits of the PS3 cell architecture. The PS3 did not limit their car choices, did not force them to choose graphics over sound and physics, did not force them to choose graphics over standing starts, qualifying and difficulty levels in GT5/6. These same tradeoffs would have been inherent in x86 archictecture if PS3 were designed that way as well.

They had big dreams but any system designed 10 years ago would have carried the same limitations and made necessary many tradeoffs between visuals, sounds, physics, gameplay etc.

  20. Pete05

That’s it Kaz. Promise the World and hand everyone a wall map.
I’m still waiting for you & your lot at PD to deliver all that you promised a year ago.
I wonder if Kaz wakes up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat from the nightmare where he’s cornered by an angry mob chanting “We want the course maker, we want the course maker…”

  21. Cosbuster

Visions, promises, big talk. Same old, same old. How about you keep your mouth shut for once Kaz and let your work speak for itself?

  22. iName

You people are so negative. You always “well that’s great but THIS THIS THIS THIS EMPTY PROMIES THIS THIS THIS IT SHUD HAV PORSH THIS THIS DUN WIT PD”

    Give’em a break, people.

    1. Tenacious D

Yeah, whiners gonna whine. No other racing game is perfect, but because Kaz doesn’t give them the moon on a silver platter, he hates them or something.

Another thing I find quite hilarious is how many people keep saying over and over how gone they are. Funny, they never seem to leave. ;D

  23. MoLiEG

“For GT7, myself and my staff have a clear vision: to do everything we couldn’t do in GT6.”

Which is pretty much what they couldn’t do with GT5 in the 1st place.

  24. mef

Others have said it before, there is no additional computing power needed to fix what is wrong with GT6. I’ll name only a few 1) bad engine sounds 2) removal of simple but essential features such as Time trial leaderboards per track and car 3) realistic race week ends (practise, qualiy, race sessions)

    1. Tenacious D

The car sounds issue has been covered before. HUNDREDS of times, so I won’t bore you with them. But I tooted around in a Miata last weekend, and it sounded pretty darn good. And there are plenty of cars that do sound good. Exaggerating the issue because some of your faves don’t sound right isn’t helping your cause.

    2. Johnnypenso

Correct mef, the major issues with GT often are unrelated to the hardware, more along the lines of poor game design. Awful, awful “career” mode, substandard online experience, crappy looking 10 year old cars, and the list goes on and on. I’m sure GT7 will be very, very pretty, the previews will be stunning, all kinds of ooooooohs and aaaaaaahs from the faithful. Terrific smoke effects, wonderful lighting. But will there be an engaging game to wrap it all around? I don’t think we doubt PD’s technical prowess, what we doubt at this point is their imagination and creativity, their ability to think beyond the boardroom and computer screen and within the mind of us gamers.

    3. TRLWNC7396

@Johnnypenso, you nailed it. GT is no longer a game. It is a rich man’s toy simulator. And it’s not a pure one, at that.

Come on, Kaz! You can make this an awesomely awesome game! Give us the options to make it fun!

  25. CorvetteConquer

Same old empty visions of the future. We thought the PS3 would do things we never saw before…still waiting for a livery editor.

    1. TRLWNC7396

To be fair, it did. The physics engine is better than 4’s, the graphics are better than 4’s (on most levels), and we have new tracks and cars to drool over.

I think they have a tremendous foundation to build on. Now to have them actually build on it…….

  26. gt_spec86

    I don’t believe him!
It’s no reason to troll about something that is never gonna happen.
Engine note is different by what sort engine it is, like inline four, straight four, flat four or V four.
Not even in GT 6 he managed to get things straight with one particular car, the Audi Coupe Quattro, which is supposed to have a distinct, loud, straight five engine note!!
He should watch some more youtube video’s of the actual cars!
And we can still not admire those amazing cars, moving the camera view around it, NO WAY!
I doubt it will ever happen, just like how i doubt he will improve the game in all the important aspects!
Fair enough, it is a racing simulator after all, but he can do way more than what he has up to this point.
If the game has everything including realistic interior, sound and the best graphic engine and a good “all around” view of the car, then even I would sacrifice lots of money to have a collector/ signature edition.
If you like cars though, you wouldn’t be playing this game if you didn’t like cars, would you?
I expect something from this game, and I expect a good game to deliver, and to do just that, they have to listen carefully to the wishes of individual gamers, because I think it’s better to have too much, rather than too little!
And if Kazunori doesn’t consider this and only think just money, then so be it!
I will just think that this is so far it goes, it wont get better no matter what people would say, so he can just sit tight in his little bubble and just watch.

  27. Halcyon925

I view what Kazunori is saying about GT7 as when Bunta showed Yuichi the AE101 Engine. Bunta is very proud of the engine, and Yuichi is amazed. Kazunori is like Bunta in this scenario; and Yuichi is us.. just we can’t see any glimpse at GT7 yet. But we know that our expectations are high, and that we will be surprised at no matter what Polyphony shows us.

I really do think that Kazunori wants to show GT7 to the world as soon as he can. Why? I can figure that out just by his choice of words. He is very excited about GT7, but he just can’t reveal any big details just yet. He knows that he is making his dream even better. He knows that he is inovating in GT7. And he knows that GT7 will do something massive in the racing genre; like wipe out any “competition”.

We can safely assume that GT7’s premier will be at E3 2015 because Kazunori does mention 2015 and 2016. Months ago, he also stated that GT7 could probably take less than two years to complete with the PS4’s versitility.

In short, Kazunori knows something that we don’t. And if he’s happy or excited about it then we know that something big will happen. I guarantee it.

    1. Tenacious D

“And he knows that GT7 will do something massive in the racing genre; like wipe out any “competition”.”

I have a feeling that no matter what, GT7 sales numbers will make every other racing developer cry. I hope it’s because of the deep, “back to the roots of Gran Turismo game but beyond” game he and the team are making. They have proven they can make a good game. Almost all the same people from GT1 – 20 years ago! – are still there, and more talented people besides. They practically live at the studio. By all reports, they love Kaz and they love this game.

Kaz has been in professional races. He knows the essence of it. He knows how many of us love racing sims – I like the concept, though they’re a bit too sterile for me, but I digress. I’m sure he’s itching to capture the essence of the racing world the way he and his team captures the essence of the automotive world. He grabbed the FIA license a few months ago because he impressed the head folk with his vision, something I’d love to know all the details of. Now with PS4, they have serious, almost unfettered technology, and really, if you can make an astounding racer on PS3, you can make an even more astounding racer on PS4. I’m expecting some amazing things. I’m expecting a lot more racing world elements, like sim racing. Yes, I expect a lot of goodies like better car sounds, better A.I., WAY better damage, tangibly better physics, Race Mod and Livery Editor, Event Maker, Course Maker THREE, far better online, yadda yadda. But what I would really love to see is a lifelike portal into the world of real league based motorsports.

I really think he’s going to serve up the banquet we’ve been waiting for.

    2. Tenacious D

One more thing. I really think Kaz and the team were bummed that they weren’t allowed to make the jump to PS4 right off. It seems that the fire just wasn’t there to dig into one more PS3 game. And seriously, part of the team was developing GT7 at the same time! When you have the choice to race in a GT1 Lamborghini, how excited are you gonna be when you find out that you’ll “get” to race in a lovely little Renault Megane Touring Car instead?

  28. pasigiri

I have no doubt that GT7 will be awesome on PS4. The thing I hope PD does is use their first party power and connections to write drivers to support legacy wheels; G25, G27, fanatec wheels, etc.

  29. Tvensky

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

It looks like Kaz just got inspired! that means we will not see GT7 for another 3 years for sure! I knew it will be like with PS3… I had it like for 3 – 4 years and only when ps3 got old I got GT.. Im not complaining, just sad.. at leat it means that they will build up proper GT7 on PS4 with everything PD promised with no hardware “limitations”.. and there will be some :D

  30. HuskyGT

“By that I mean it’s going to be a game that matches the very era that we live in, in 2015 or 2016.”

I don’t like how that sounds. If it’s just going to be a pretty game with no content just so they can sell more than 70% of the game on DLC, or focus only on online gaming, then Mr. I do not approve. Pretty graphics does not equal good game.

Will not judge until I have my PS4 with a copy of GT7 running on it.

    1. Magic Ayrton

Will not judge until I try it on someone else’s PS4 or from reviews on the Internet more like it for me…

    2. HuskyGT

And with that I’m not saying I don’t support DLC. But if they end up abusing what Forza 5 did, then it will be a huge insult to gamers. Also, if they start selling features that were already in previous games.

Mr. Yamauchi. What you need to do to restore the faith in the franchise, is first, be consistent. Second, bring back features that made previous GT’s so amazing. Don’t forget people who stick to single player (at the end, most of which are your longest going fans), make the game less restrictive, as in letting us chose what to do and how to do it (that’s what makes a game great and gives it replay value). And last, forget about Standards, for the love of god. And I’m not saying get rid of them; hire more people and make them work on upgrading most of those cars to current gen standards.

It’s embarrassing that I have completely abandoned GT6 and instead I’m playing the old Forza 3, which is ridiculously much more fun than GT6, despite the physics are kind of sucky. That cannot be right.

    3. HuskyGT

      @Magic Ayrton

Good point! This time GT won’t be my reason to by a PS4. My purchase will be based on reviews. Hopefully they are accurate and impartial.

    4. karelpipa

And if we get the same bland Offline, i dont have any reason to only think about buying a PS4. (I will save a lot of money, though on time when GT7 arrives, the PS4 will be on its 3rd or 4th sale :) )

  31. Racemachine

I think the PS3 can handle tire wear and fuel consumption in single player, and the ability to pick the cars I want to race against.

  32. karelpipa

So will they again only make better graphics or they will finally make a better game? I think the first will be the case.

  33. Tenacious D

Everything I read about Kaz on GT7 says to me he really didn’t want GT6 on PS3. The fact that they didn’t cut back on anything in the game engine (they will admit to anyway) makes me think they were building the PS4 engine, but were told by SONY to make a final PS3 game to capitalize on the massive 70 million plus userbase. Heck, the resolution is higher than on GT5! They likely borrowed some tesselation algorithms from PS4 that would run efficiently on PS3, though there are still LOD issues about the same as GT5. I’m thinking Zahara was probably built originally for PS4, since it took another seven months work to get it onto PS3 from the intended February release date, as admitted to by Terronium-12. Some mods get all the news goodies around here…

GT7 will likely blow most of us away. It’ll blow the world away, because gamers in general just don’t seem to be as horrified of the Standard cars and tracks, the wimpy car sounds and bot A.I. as some of the hardcore around here. PS4 is going to have so much more computing power available, as well as very fast DDR5 ram normally used in graphics cards. PC fiends will laugh at PS4, but they have to keep in mind that very few gamers have the latest bleeding edge Alienware gaming rigs, and PS4 is going to cost as much as one of their graphics cards. Chew on that.

With all that computing power available, the potential for more than 20 cars on track (24? 30??), multiclass racing, better A.I., some rendered damage, MUCH better lighting (night racing should be sweet), Race Mod and the Livery Editor, Course Maker III (oh LAWDY!), a career as massive as they want to make it and the FIA licenses, not to forget the more realistic physics… there are so many things to ponder.

Whatever Kaz and the team do, it will be sweet, and I’ll be a release day racer.

    1. karelpipa

Zaharra was clearly made for PS4 but toned down to PS3 quality just to make some more interest (HEY! This track is longer than Nurburgring!).

    2. Tenacious D

“The fact that they didn’t cut back on anything in the game engine (they will admit to anyway)…”

Johnnypenso interpretation: (Tenacious D says) “I hate that SONY made Kaz produce a GT6 engine beyond what the PS3 could comfortably deliver…”

Also, I suppose Kaz could have told SONY that he’s going to do whatever he wants to, because NO publisher tell a developer what they want, Johnny One Note. ;D

And on Zahara, a few people have pointed out that the track length and land area aren’t really all that much larger than the Nurburgring area, true. But keep in mind that much of the Nurb landscape in these racing games is engulfed in tall trees. Meanwhile, Zahara spans miles of wide open countryside the PS3 struggles to render in replays, not to mention the slowdown and refresh issues in parts in race. So I’m fully with karelpipa in thinking Zahara was initially built for PS4.

  34. Kalsonic

If Gt7’s general physics and car system interaction is with the likes of Asetto Corsa, Driveclub, Forza or Project Cars, I would say… Meh. If it is on par with Game Stock Car… Sweet!

    1. Tenacious D

Nah, NFS Underground and BURNOUT! WOOT!!

Actually, my two faves would be RaceRoom and Live For Speed. Others would say iRacing, ketKar Pro, rFactor 2… everyone has their favorite racing game. Honestly, if PD could get a physics blend of GT6 and just about any good sim, I’ll be way happy. It’s going to be so much better in so many ways… I just want it.

  35. Racin-Rev

I am sure GT7 will be an amazing game. However, if my G27 wheel can’t be made compatible, I doubt I will be buying a PS4. I hate to miss out on GT7, Drive Club, and Project Cars, but the cost of a new console and high $ wheel just doesn’t fit the budget of an old geezer like me.

    1. IfAndOr

      Yes indeed. My circumstances exactly.

So this is probably the “Incredible Difference” that the PS4 will mean for me as well! :(

  36. ADTR

GT7 needs to go beyond everyone’s expectations or else it may (will) kill the franchise. The competition is stonger on PS4 and you can’t ride on what you’ve done in the past. It’s been all downhill since GT5, they have a lot of work to do.

    1. Tenacious D

This has been said so many times with so many competitors, not happening this time either. It might die for you, but that just means more bandwidth for us.

    2. ADTR

You are either blind or completely unaware of how this works. GT6 sold way less than GT5.. Say what you want but once the franchise isn’t enough profitable, Sony will cut the budget.. they are already having troubles with $1.26 Bn profit loss this year alone. The GT Series + Polyphony have lost a lot of customer confidence and became sort of a joke. Add this to the fact that you have a buy a PS4 that only supports Thrustmaster wheels, you’ll need very good marketing to sell the game. IMO, the game needs drastic changes and Kaz needs to go.

  37. ralph89

I myself have given up on PD promises. I moved on to PC racing with Assetto Corsa. I suggest if you want to see what GT should have been, you should try AC. Better than GT and Forza IMO. If they only have the man power of PD, I can only imagine what they can do in the racing genre. SMS studio showed what a proper racing game should on Project Cars (Without NFS shift, that’s EA’s crap). Good graphics, physics, and content. But i prefer AC cause of top notch physics and unlimited car count and tracks you can add. I hope GT7 becomes better than expected, but they need to stop making promises. I’ve been a fan of GT for 16 years, and im sure a lot of people in here do, so it is quite a big deal that PD should listen to the fans, we made them succesful, without us, they’re just a nobody studio.

  38. chevyisawesome

You people gotta stop bitching about GT! Learn something here, I can assure this GT will not be late, if it is, may lightning strike my head! And just because ONE GT was late on its release date, does not mean every single one of them is also going to be late! It was only GT5, and it was late because they made such a big leap to a newer gen console and the game was so big! Yes this game is going to be bigger, better, more beautiful BECAUSE ITS GOING TO BE ON A MORE POWERFUL SYSTEM! This GT7 will NOT be called “6.5”, GT6 will be GT6 and GT7 will be GT7! GT7 will look more Forza 5 like except better because it has soul! Forza has no soul! It’s lifeless! GT7 will have much more cars and better cars! Better sounds! Better graphics! Better AI!
Write my username down, if I’m wrong about everything I just said, than you can curse at me, and do anything you want to me.
whether this game is good or not, I’m still buying, I’m still supporting Kaz and his team for all there hard word over the years making the GT franchise what it is!

    Thanks for listening!

    1. Master Weasel

      1) More powerful system does not automatically mean a better game. GT5 for example was extremely lacking in the single player department despite being on a system more powerful than the PS2.

      2) You don’t need to bring Forza into this to prove your point.

    2. chevyisawesome

      @Master Weasel
      1) Yes it does, the reason GT5 wasn’t as good as everyone hoped it would be, it because they were making a big change and were new to the system and what they could do with it.
      2) Yes I do, because it’s the only way to get a point across!

      @Kollosson Thank you.

    3. imported_skidmark

More power to push those old assets around on screen hey!? ;)
Right now forza6 hasnt got to do THAT much,to better f5.. more tracks/night racing/weather and a better single player structure, your right in that f5 has no soul but oh my its exciting to play and looks stunning! PD have there work cutout.

    1. NA

Hehe. Been periodically refreshing the page since the story first posted….You could just tell there would be a good show. XD

  39. jhw93

Been away from GT from a while, for the last few days I have been playing Driveclub. Driveclub is a very good game, if you have a PS4 or you are going to get one make sure you get Driveclub it is pretty damn awesome.

It’s nice to see that GTPlanet has not changed lol still plenty of moaning and groaning about how GT6/PD/Kaz has not delivered. Tbh I am pretty contempt with how GT6 turned out, there was a few things I was not keen on. Sounds could be better (now i’ve heard driveclubs, damn they’re good), didn’t care for standard cars, got sick of all the Vision GT stuff. On the whole however I think GT6 was a pretty good game.

In all honesty I think the PS4 will provide PD with a chance of a fresh start, not only is it a lot more powerful than the PS3 but it is is much easier to make games for. The PS3 had a powerful processor for its time but it was not designed for general purpose use which meant that its architecture made it difficult for developers to get good results from it. There are also just general limitations of the previous console generation that we won’t see in GT7, we won’t have bad aliasing anymore, we won’t have low res flickery shadows, washed out textures and so on. GT7 will look heaps better.

What kaz means when he says “It’s going to be a game that matches the era we live” he means that GT7 will look like a game of it’s time. GT6 came out at the end of the last gen consoles and looked dated compared to Forza 5 and current PC releases. GT6 was an attempt to get the best of the PS3 which it did but it came out at a time when people started to lose interest because there was a new shiny PS4 taking the center stage.

Will there be an incredible difference? Oh most certainly. After playing driveclub, I can quite honestly say the difference between PS4 and PS3 is just massive. Driveclub is like nothing I have ever seen and If PD can build something that looks better (I have no doubt they will) then GT7 will look amazing. Driveclub is actually very similar to GT in the sense that it has a very photo-realistic style so I think Driveclub is a very good example of what GT7 may look like.

Lasting comment from me, to those of you who are still disappointed with GT6. For what ever reason you are upset with GT6, I don’t mean to burst your bubble but PD can’t keep working on older games to satisfy disgruntled individuals. Unfortunately, there is a time when they have to move on to the next game. I reckon Winter 2016 is the latest that GT7 will be on the shelves, we will probably see it earlier.

    1. Johnnypenso

Assuming you’re right and Kaz meant, “means that GT7 will look like a game of it’s time”, then you must believe that they have to upgrade all 800+ standards to premium, because no game of this era (next gen) has anything other than super detailed car models. They do not have the resources to do this given they’ve modeled premiums at a steady 40ish per year for 10 years. How do you think they plan on achieving this?

    2. marcvic

Ohhhh yes driveclub looks ridiculously good!!! I agree with you about it getting my hopes up for GT7. I like the game layout too, being that its on open windy country roads. I was thrilled when the Sierra circuit was released on GT6 because it gave us that experience. If GT7 can give us at least 5 or 6 stages like that, along with more rally stages in addition to current tracks itd be in a league of its own. All that with next gen graphics and sound would really revitalize this franchise.

I agree with you as far as being content with GT6. There are some sore spots, but the amount of content makes up for it. In fact, it seems like they had more tracks than they knew what to do with. I wish theyd utilize them more in A-spec and seasonal events

I like that they wont be trashing the standard cars also because I use them alot (in love with my ’02 vtec prelude). I do wish theyd increase the credit rewards for the 350-500pp races. I love driving these cars, but when I only get like 20k per race it feels like a waste of time tho.

    3. chevyisawesome

Well said! One of the very few people on GTplanet who appreciate the GT franchise! Also, I’ve read a few stories and Kazunori said (and this was the day after GT6 came out) for GT7, the best case scenario, December 2014, which may not happen, they still got a hand full with GT6, but maybe Jan or Feb 2015, my best best guess!

    4. TomBrady

@ADTR “The Last of Us pushed the PS3 to it’s limit, GTA V pushed the PS3 to it’s limit, GT6 certainly did not.”

You obviously don’t have a clue. Do you have any idea how hard it is to do real time dynamic lighting? Why do you think no other racing games last gen even attempted it? It’s a difficult thing to do even on PS4 or PC let alone PS3. PS3 just isn’t equipped to do real time graphics but PD managed it by pushing PS3 to the max.

And GTA V? LOL GT6 looks much better than GTA V

    5. jhw93

@Johnnypenso… To answer your statement about re-modelling the 800 standard cars is that no I do NOT believe that they can re-model all the standard cars. Why? because it is out of their ability and it is not necessary either. A lot of the cars in the PS2 era GT car list are pretty pointless and not needed, this is especially true with the japanese cars. Based on the cars they have added in recent years, I can say they have definitely improved in terms of what cars they add to the game, we are no longer seeing the pointless additions or variations to existing cars, this is only a problem that lies with cars that were part of the PS2 car lists. My statement about GT7 looking current for it’s time is about the game as a whole, as I said GT6 looks dated compared to its next gen rivals. If you expect PD to re model all of the 800 cars then you must be mad because it’s not practical and a lot of the cars on the PS2 car list were pointless or crap. The premium quality cars you see in GT5/GT6 are not far off the quality you see in next gen or pc racing titles with increasing poly counts and improving the quality of textures and materials you can get those premium cars to a PS4 level of quality in a pretty straight forward fashion. Due to this, expect to have all the 400 or so premium cars we have already in GT6 in GT7 but obviously improved and rendered with better quality. Obviously I don’t work at PD but I have done 3D modelling work myself and I think what I have said about the premium cars is pretty reasonable. It is also safe assume they already have plenty of high quality cars that they have not released in GT6 which they are shelving for GT7, you also need to take into account the time between now and the release of GT7 new cars will be added within that time frame.

    6. Psychopulse

^ This right here! YES! A fresh start indeed! PS3 was just not suitable for a game of the scale and scope of GT. Don’t forget guys, GT on PS1 and PS2 was incredible. Only on PS3 hardware was GT not up to scratch. I myself had high hopes for both GT5 and GT6, but I won’t let two games undermine my faith in the entire series. Kazunori-san’s statement about GT7 matching “the very era we live in” is very leading, but perfectly ties in with the fact that the PS4 hardware is much more suitable for GT, bringing the series back to its roots, and everything else that made it great for all of us. GT7 will be awesome! I have no doubt about it!

  40. dgc4rter

Too little, too late and the same ol’ BS. By the time GT7 (or should I say GT6.5) comes out, most players will have switched to Forza or be well established into DriveClub or Project Cars as the premier PS4 racing titles. PD have not only lost momentum and trust, they’ll lose the market too.

    1. kollosson

Too little too late ??? vision GT cars, new tracks, Senna content etc that’s just mindless bitching, yeah, lets switch to Forza with its limited car count and sad track count and be charged for DLC.
@sergio_z4gt3 Drive Club is a next gen title on PS4, GT6 is on PS3, I think with the power of PS4 at his finger tips Kaz will be showing Drive Club a thing or too….

    2. BrodieBoi94

      @kollosson

If I am not mistaken, I remember watching a video about Drive Club where it was stated that Polyphony Digital played a role in the game’s development (Graphics wise) so I think Drive Club may be a reference point for us as far as graphics, and furthermore perhaps their developers could have contributed sound effects for cars for the upcoming GT7 having worked with PD. I mean that seems like the most logical observation any of us could make. Drive Club is a SONY ONLY title as well, It’s all one big joint effort.

  41. Magic Ayrton

Personally the trust has gone.. simply not investing £400 of my hard earned on a console and game from PD again.. not until a year after GT7 release.. and then we will see.

  42. sergio_z4gt3

I hope this is true, looks like it took drive club to show Kaz how low GT has fallen when it comes to mainstream gaming

  43. Spagetti69

By that I mean it’s going to be a game that matches the very era that we live in, in 2015 or 2016

What on earth is he talking about?

    1. GBO Possum

Looks like he’s opening up the release date window to include 2016. Which might be so that expectations can be exceeded, or just met. Meanwhile, back to actually playing. GT6!

  44. Jay84

Release date 2017 date the game is acutally finished 2020 were STILL waiting for gt6 to be finished for gods sakes -__-

  45. Lambob

I am preparing for a very 2015 Gran Turismo, Dyson Debuts First Robot Vacuum Cleaner, the Eye 360.

no matter, we’ll all over 10 million strong, be playing Project Cars for a good while, until GT7 hits, let’s just let PD do whatever they want with that product, as we have no say in that matter anyhow, it’s obvious Sony dictates its way around creation and control.

I do look forward to GT7 for one thing, and that is a good degree of photorealism of the track surroundings, and hoping for improved immersion physics wise.

you read it here first, who wants to bet the sounds will remain pretty much “very gran turismo” ?

    1. Lambob

I wish to also say last but not least, long live GTPlanet, may your front page DO include other game franchises that are going to be in the spotlight this November. :)

  46. GTboyz

i’ll take anything with a grain of salt until i see some footage showing the physics, the sounds and the A.I.

  47. adellanotte

So far GT6 has been a total disappointing product. The big issue: online. The physics change just between rooms depending on users connection speed. Incompatibility everywhere. Permanent FPS dropping, freezings, etc. NO ENGAGING. Are we supposed to wait 2016 to get this nightmare fixed? Maybe is time to switch.

    1. Daduce1947

Maybe not totally disappointed, but daymn near! You’re are indeed 110% dead on target about the online experience,, it’s lousy. PD spends more time ADDING junk like the Quick matches that few use because of the L—–O—–N—-G waiting to join,, then get dumped because their servers can’t handle the traffic! So far, when I attempt to enter a quick match and sit waiting for a minute or two with NOTHING happening,, the ONLY way I’ve seen to get out of those lobbys is shut down my system,, that’s ridiculous!

Why not delete a bunch of the junk an get the online lobbys working before messing around with additions few can use? Drive Club is looking better with each passing day PD continues to screw the racing up or delays making GT6 work as it should. True, we don’t pay for using their servers,,, WHY not offer pay only servers for those who want a better GT6?

  48. wonderpill

I want to make it Very gran turismo.

I really enjoyed 3 of the GT games… the First one was great. To be honest the Second one was a step backwards in some areas, but a HUGE leap forward in many others. Then there was the Yawn fest that was GT3… but then GT4 exploded my brain with the amount of content, quality, and endless amounts of ideas implemented. then GT5 yawn, and GT6 Yawn on the moon.

If Kaz means, Make it like Gran Turismo 1… then yeah I’m all for it. Re-invent Racing genre, in a way that GT did, vs. the NFS/TD/RR games that plagued the market, GT1 made the racing genre viable.

If they were to make it identical to GT4 in terms of content, and GT1 in terms of innovation, and keep all the newer graphics with the weather features, they might topple the king, that is Forza… But chances are better that There will be some excuse to release an unfinished version, and call it Proto… and then skip right on to GT8 releasing in 2020, with cars from 1994 on the cover.

  49. YZF

After GT6 fiasco, no more pre-orders!! Firstly show what you made, then we will believe and decide if we want to buy it or not

    1. YZF

I am speaking for myself and my friends. And I wish you nice experience with semi-finished game (you have low standards, but that’s ok :)

  50. Aussie_HSV

    Typical over-the-top comments from gtplanet.
Nothing more than a game of one-upmanship as to who can speak worse about GT, because apparently that’s the cool thing to do here.

Not only do they portray a bad image of themselves, but it is also harming their beloved gtplanet.
This site now has a reputation for bashing all things GT.
And from these comments, that reputation is more than warranted.

    1. Benny44

I feel the same way. What I don’t understand is, why are these people on the site if they don’t love GT? there is a place for constructive criticism, but most of this is not constructive, it’s just whining

    2. research

I think you two are doing a poor job of ignoring the obvious, meritless whining -which then makes you throw out the baby with the bathwater. VBR’s “options” thread and Johnnypenso’s “offline” thread are two big fat beautiful babies just cooing away at the wall. If PD listened to those two this whole mess would be over!

We are here BECAUSE we love GT. The current direction as shown by 5 and 6 represents a turd spiralling down a toilet upon flush!

  51. Ben Rogue

I personally am not jumping on the hype train until I see some game footage, screen shots or actual features lists. GT6 was certainly an improvement over GT5 but it too was rushed and full of empty promises. Stop being such a hold out Kaz and show us what your team have been up to, let us fans in on your progress, stop being so cryptic and vague!

  52. Ben Rogue

I personally will only get excited whne I see some game footage or actual features lists. Not jumping on the hype train again about “Vision GT” cars that never get rolled out or a GPS

  53. Fender_st

PD should realise that it is not a matter of “hype”, not anymore. Everyone is fed up about empty promises, chit chat and bla bla bla. Nobody cares.

Because facts are : nobody is expecting GT7 on time. Nobody is expecting GT7 as a complete, finished game.
And most above all, nobody is expecting GT7 will be the game Kazunori is dreaming of.

I think Kazunori Yamauchi should stay silence, working on “only god knows what”, avoiding the same old story everyone knows.

  54. Monatsende

Wow, another vision. Release 2015 or 2016. Sounds like 2017. At least this means they have to keep GT6 running at least one more year with “massive” support and updates to keep us playing the game. Well, I do not trust my own words.

  55. Scuderia Paul

I for one am fed up listening to all this. When GT7 is shown and we see what it will be and will feature then I will take notice. Kaz is a master at making it seem he says wise things when he is being frustratingly vague.

Do not get me wrong I am seriously looking forward to GT7, and I will certainly buy it, but this BS about having a vision is wearing thin.

A game for the era we live in will probably be related in-depth connectivity.

  56. CORRUPTEDDISC

“We want to make it very GranTurismo”, I.e broken promises, completely inaccurate dates of releases, and absolute unrealism.

Forza, I’m coming back, you have been missed.

  57. m4fioso

I wish they would put more unofficial tracks, like cote dazur, grand canyon, city di aria, el capitan and the one in Paris (forgot the name)

    1. research

cannot say you didn’t try your heart out. : (

The best ideas just fly right past them, without so much as a head tilt. They are on some sort of path with a specific agenda, and offline racing is just not a part of it.

  58. nickg07

Inb4 2017 and PD had to hold back certain features and updates for GT7 as the CPU held development back due to optimisation.

  59. MeanElf

Not really a big surprise for me, as most of this has been hinted at broadly during other interviews about GT7 and the PS4’s capabilities as well as PD’s aims.

It is interesting that we have a more refined estimate of when GT7 will be out, that being between the end of 2015 and say mid 2016. Definitely giving themselves enough time.

  60. kekke2000

Another bullsh!t promise from pd. Realistic crash models, track editor. They said GT6 would be huge but they took away Endurance, Formula Races and pretty much all of the special events leaving us fans with a big question mark when GT6 was 100% completed in just a month… Worst GT ever. Project Cars here I come.

  61. watchclockgit

I’m sorry to say this, but basically while I’m still playing GT6 occasionally I’m currently waiting for Project Cars. My experience with GT6 was one of the deciding factors in getting a high end PC and not (yet?) bothering with a PS4. The main gripe I have is the lack of long races and the abysmal AI. I’ve been playing since Gran Turismo, and the things that got me excited about earlier iterations now are what I see in a certain other game. I think PD have been very cynical in their handling of GT6 – the recent bout of communication seems born of panic more than anything else. Why I cannot create a race, choose a circuit, choose tyre / fuel degradation, choose racing series, choose laps, and not overtake every car after lap 2 is totally beyond me.

In other words, a company that deals with a legacy like gran turismo with hack jobs (physics aside) like GT6 cannot be trusted.

  62. GTP_CargoRatt

Just a bunch of hot air if you ask me. I choose not to believe any of it until I see it. Kaz would make a great politician, all talk and when it comes time to deliver, he can’t/doesn’t and falls short on what he does manage to deliver. A true politician. Anyone who buys into all his hype is just setting themselves up for disappointment.

  63. blackjack

Thanks for the update Captain Obvious. I don’t think it’s unfair to be doubting a 2015 release at this rate.

  64. Pootis

Hopefully that “incredible difference” is better AI, sounds, Course Creator, livery editor, and no duplicate cars.

    1. scobra1cz

Duplicate cars are not a problem. Problem is they are not premium despite the fact one of duplicates is premium.

  65. research

I don’t know what’s more appalling. This goober talking about GT7 when my GT6 box is still wondering why it’s covered in unfulfilled features and selling points, or YOU guys who are buying this load!

GT7? Are you serious? Where is the evidence that we should trust Polyphony Digital ever again?

  66. COUNTERSTEER123

I can remember myself getting hyped for GT6 and it turned out to be a massive disappointed to me. After playing a few months of GT6, I gave up on the franchise as a whole. I didn’t want to go through that sort of hype again (like what may happen to GT7 in the future). Now I play the Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon franchise on my Xbox One now…never been happier and when I hyped up again for Horizon 2, it turned out to be most of everything I expected. It also makes me question…why am I even part of this forum anymore lol? Hopefully GT7 will get Gran Turismo back to its roots (even though I don’t have a PS4 and probably never will).

    1. Fat Tyre

Same here, ditched gt now I’m playing Forza on the bone and couldn’t be happier. Standing starts, yay!!! What’s your gamer tag by the way?

    2. scobra1cz

Comparing Forzas from the new console generation with GT6 for old generation is not very fair, you know? Frankly, old Forzas are not that good as GT5 or 6…

    3. Fat Tyre

We are not comparing the two, just stating that after the horrible games the GT5 and 6 were we went with a different franchise. PS4 was released a year ago, PD could have easily made GT6 for this console. They chose to stick with the PS3 and stay in the past. As far as old Forzas go I can’t say because I haven’t played them and they are irrelevant now unless you like living in the past. Now Forza 5 has many (and nearly all) of the things I have wanted GT to deliver a long time ago which is damage, great A.I, awesome sounds and also no stinking standard/premium cr@p and… standing starts which are so damn exciting!

pCARS will come out in about a month and it looks like it will do what PD has not been able to do in 15 years with a ridiculously small budget in comparison. Hopefully Kaz will remove the standards and the other low quality assets, improve the A.I and stuff but I have a feeling GT will end up with more useless gimmicks like driving on the moon.

    4. scobra1cz

Fat Tyre: There was no time to make GT6 for PS4, bear with it.

Awesome sounds? All completely synthetic and not near real sounds? No way… But yes, new Forzas have new features, which old Forzas and old GTs have not. Simply because they are on new console. And thats why I am writting, comparison is unfair.

Regretably, pCars will not come out before next year (maybe Q1) :(

    5. Fat Tyre

They did have the time. All that time they used to make GT6 for PS3 could have been used to make it for the PS4, especially since they say it is so much easier to program it could have been out before who knows.

As far as sounds go, yes they are really good. Coming from GT especially you really notice the contrast and it truly adds to the racing experience.

pCARS will be out in November, are you thinking of getting it? I’ve already pre-ordered it.

  67. masterrawad

You know what, I’ll let them surprise me. I’ll abstain from checking GTPlanet every day, pretend GT7 is a myth, and when it does come out in 2015 or 2016, I’ll see how much of a ‘difference’ they will have made.

    But for now…we wait.

  68. RandomCarGuy17

Hmm, maybe PD was looking at the other sims out there after all. Eh, I think I’ll just play the “wait and see” card for now.

Though, all I care is if they make the career mode long and fun again like in the earlier GTs.

  69. mokalovesoulmat

“We want to make it very Gran Turismo.”

Yeah, go ahead! Show us the Gran Turismo which is VERY Gran Turismo. I am excited and I will be waiting.

  70. Jack The Ripper

I’d rather it be released in 2016. That way they have no excuse to not have everything ready for gt7. I’m not buying gt7 on release day either. I’ll wait and find out if all of the features can be played on the day of release. Then and only then will I even consider purchasing the game.

  71. occasionalracer

SWEEEET! (not that I didn’t expect a positive outlook for GT7 running on comparatively blistering fast hardware). Try to make it 2015 PD!

  72. Johnnypenso

Kazunori Yamauchi – “By that I mean it’s going to be a game that matches the very era that we live in, in 2015 or 2016.”

Yes because all the other next gen games and current PC sims have 10 year old assets in them and hundreds of cars with blacked out interiors. I think we have another translation error here.

“Mr. Yamauchi, you said GT7 would match the era we live in, in 2015 or 2016, and yet the other games of this era all have assets in them scratch built for the current hardware, and GT7 is riddled with mushy, pixelated cars without interiors. Can you explain this?”

“Oh, did Translator-san say 2015-2016. What he meant was 2005-2006. Next question please, nothing to see here, move along.”

    1. Ben Rogue

So true. I think Kaz has lost touch with gamers today. What he says should just be ignored until we see a final product

    1. marcvic

I still cant believe Sony didnt include code for earlier wheels in the PS4. If anyone wants to play GT7 on next gen, we gotta invest in another wheel. My fanatec works perfectly fine, so I am vexed that I will have to spend another $2-300

  73. Imari

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Do everything we couldn’t do in GT6 smacks a lot of overreaching again, I’m afraid.

  74. Swagger897

I hope it’s the quantum leap we were promised for six…

The only quantum leap I’ve seen so far is promoting content that will never be released..

  75. digitalwolf

All GT6 needs is the course maker!

PLEASE? I don’t even care if its just like GT5…I just want to go for my Toscana drives…

    1. marcvic

Considerin GT6 has 1200+ cars in it, the fact that they said they weren’t trashing the standard cars and the fact that they will have about 3 years or so from GT6 to creat new models, it seems very possible for them to reach the 2000 car mark. And trust that they will use that as a selling point!

      … duplicates and all lol
