PC racing sim RaceRoom Racing Experience is truly putting the “free” into “free-to-play”. Sector3 Studios has opted to make not only the game itself but every single item of content within it free to all for the next few days.
It’s the studio’s response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. With swathes of people opting to quarantine themselves to prevent the virus’s spread, many are choosing to fill in the time saved commuting by playing games. We’ve even seen esports taking the place of physical sporting events.
If you’re not familiar with R3E, it’s a PC racing sim from the studio behind the GTR2 sim. There’s 167 cars and 48 circuits in the game, featuring models from Audi, Koenigsegg, McLaren, Radical, and Pagani, and tracks like Sepang, Nurburgring, Sonoma, Spa, and Paul Ricard. Only a handful of cars and tracks come with the game as standard, with others available for some extra cash. Sector 3 supports the game with regular DLC too.
Sector3 believes that, as an entertainment company, making its wares free to alleviate some of the stress and anxiety of isolation is the best course of action. To that end, all of R3E’s content will be available, for free, to all players for a minimum of five days.
There’s no set end date for the promotion just yet, but if you’re interested you only have to download the game from the Steam store.
On top of that, R3E will be hosting a “RaceFromHome” event on Saturday March 19. Starting at 1330 UTC, the event will feature professional drivers from the World Touring Car Cup and VLN series taking on YouTubers and esports racers in a GT3 race around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
