The Dubai police force might be famous for its fleet of supercars, but it has a new challenger. Sussex Police, in the UK, now has a Rolls-Royce Ghost.
The Sussex force’s patch includes the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars headquarters, just outside of Chichester in West Sussex. To celebrate a police open day, Rolls-Royce donated a £258,768 Ghost Black Label, and displayed it alongside other police vehicles, past and present.
In fact the Ghost would make a pretty solid police car. With 612hp on tap from a 6.6-liter V12, it can hit 60mph in 4.6 seconds. Top speed is officially 155mph, but we suspect that without a limiter it would go a great deal faster. At 5,490lbs it would be hard to muscle out of the way in a close pursuit. A combined fuel economy of 16mpg (US), falling to 10.6mpg in urban use, might cause a problem though, especially with tight police budgets.
There’s plenty of space in the back for any detained suspects too. Although it has just two seats, the Ghost Black Badge sports a huge 42.3 inches of rear legroom. In fact with heated and massage seats and a cool box for champagne, it might be hard getting the perps back out of it.
Sadly, for the Sussex cops’ motor pool, the Ghost was strictly a promotional car. After three days raising money for a local children’s hospice, Rolls-Royce has now returned it to its plain white state.
It seems that crime really doesn’t pay.
