Following some pretty strong rumors just a week ago, and a hand-drawn image of the console’s box art work, Sony itself has teased the final design of the PlayStation 5 Pro with a very cheeky Easter Egg indeed.
It came as part of the PlayStation Blog post detailing the upcoming activities to mark the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation console, which first launched in Japan on December 1 1994. That post also brought us news of the mysterious “My First Gran Turismo” free demo coming later in the year.
However it seems that there was a little more information on the post that just what appeared in the text, as a closer look at that 30th Anniversary artwork reveals.
You won’t have to work too hard to spot all the various PlayStation hardware items in the image, making up the shapes of the classic face button logo branding. It’s like the PlayStation Labo area of Astro’s Playroom, which recently gave a little nod to the Gran Turismo series by way of a special bot.
Look a bit more closely though and you’ll see an item that’s a little out of place, because it doesn’t officially exist yet. Hidden virtually in plain sight, right in the middle of the image and behind the PS logo and the 30 numerals is something that looks exactly like the purported PlayStation 5 Pro console as drawn in last week’s leak — although side-on:
It’s also visible more clearly in a story post on the official PlayStation Instagram account. You can see it highlighted here in red:
That does seem to be all-but confirmation of the console’s design (and existence) ahead of the expected grand reveal, likely a special State of Play, that’s been widely pinned for this month — though even the announcement of the announcement hasn’t taken place yet…
When Sony does finally take the covers off the PlayStation 5 Pro we’re expecting to learn more about its specifications — with various figures being circulated for its enhancements, mainly in GPU terms — as well as price, availability, and whether there’s digital and disc versions like the refreshed standard console.
Of course we’ll bring you all the latest information as we get it, so watch this space!
