Partnerships between automotive manufacturers and video-game companies are nothing new –Gran Turismo’s own Vision GT programme is built around the relationships that can be forged through collaborations.
However, the newest partnership involving Audi is especially unique, since it doesn’t involve a racing game, but a Japanese RPG: specifically the upcoming highly-anticipated Square-Enix title Final Fantasy XV.
Based on footage of this game released so far, character transport is a key part of the experience, and in this popular series’ latest entry the main mode of transport will be by car. Embracing this, SE and Audi have came together to make a one-of-a-kind Audi R8 that appears in a CGI movie that will partner the game (Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive).
The 2017 series R8 retains it’s iconic look, but features embossed floral patterns and some special alloy rims – although outside of these small modifications the core car still remains the same.
Given that there will only be one production model (which the use of has not yet been specified), it seems more like a neat marketing stunt rather than the showing of a lasting partnership.
FFXV has it’s own specific fictional car brands within the game, so don’t expect to see Audi having any sort of presence in the actual release this September 30th. Regardless, its nice to see Audi continuing its very abundant presence in the entertainment industry.
What do you think of the car? Let us know in the comments below!
Last I remember Square/Enix attempting racing, “Driving Emotion Type-S” happened (when Square/Enix was simply Squaresoft). Yeah. I think this is very cool. I’ve never hated the Audi R8 road car, and I certainly don’t hate this one. Only question is if this car performs better than “Driving Emotion Type-S”…
Does this mean that Aaron Paul will need to take a course in how to drive like an elitist ass? ;) The engraving on the panels and rims do look the part though.
Gran Turismo better have this vehicle in their next game.
Let’s hope not.
Lol I thought Iannone was the dumbest thing of the weekend but this FFXV provide quite a challenge.
Being that a 2-seat car (right?), I wonder how the whole party will fit inside xP I don’t know how the game will be, but it will be a big laugh joke if more than two people travel in that.
You should read the news when you comment, otherwise you might end up looking dumb. It’s said in the news that it’s not in the game but rather on the movie that will come with the game.
The wheels are pretty cool but the floral pattern I am not a fan of. It will be expensive if you kerb those wheels!
Those wheels look like they are from ottoman empire era.
Stoked that you guys posted this! I thought it looked amazing.
I don’t even like Final Fantasy, but this car looks awesome.
Same here!
I’m with you!
Cool car. The floral patterns? Not so much.
About the only thing I like about it–but for a car that’s at least 60 years old.
