Codemasters has peeled back a few layers on its upcoming F1 2019 sim racer. One of the biggest surprises is not about the current season, but about the past. When the game launches in two months, players will be able to pick a side in the great Senna versus Prost rivalry.

Formula 1 is no stranger to high profile drivers. From Michael Schumacher to Dan Gurney, the number of legends to get behind the wheel is staggeringly high. However, one name tends to stand out: Ayrton Senna. That’s why for this week’s Want we take a look at the car that kicked off the career of one of the best F1 drivers of all time.

Senna TV, a channel dedicated to all things Ayrton-related, was in Japan recently to interview Polyphony head Kazunori Yamauchi. While talk naturally revolves around the legendary F1 driver, eagle-eyed Gran Turismo fans are treated to a few brief glimpses into Gran Turismo Sport, including our first look at future hardware in action.

A new version of Gran Turismo 6, update 1.08, has just been released – and it’s a big one! Weighing in at 1.4GB (with a 20+ minute installation time), it brings the highly anticipated Ayrton Senna Tribute content and a surprise in the form of an all-new Vision GT car.

Polyphony Digital has announced an online service maintenance period for Gran Turismo 6, expected to begin on Friday, May 30th, at 04:00 GMT/UTC (click here to convert that to your local time).

As most readers will recall, the Ayrton Senna Tribute content was originally set for release in GT6 today. Unfortunately, a few regional licensing issues have complicated a simultaneous worldwide launch of the new content, but don’t worry – it will arrive before the end of this week, as I learned after speaking with SCEA today.

The latest Ayrton Senna Tribute video teaser has been officially released by Polyphony Digital, and it includes our first in-game look at some of the new content, including Senna’s Lotus 97T and 1978 DAP Kart.

More information on the Ayrton Senna Tribute content headed for Gran Turismo 6 was confirmed in a post on the official PlayStation Blog late yesterday, including a release date of Tuesday, May 27th.

In memory of the 20th anniversary of the passing of Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna, Polyphony Digital have formally unveiled their plans to support the Ayrton Senna Institute, developed in close cooperation with Senna’s family.

Over the past week, Gran Turismo 6 has taken over the small town of Ronda, Spain, in what was arguably one of the largest launch events in the history of the video game industry.
