The relationship between Nissan and GT Academy seems to be well and truly over, as the brand appears to have all-but ended its relationship with the sole remaining driver. Jann Mardenborough, who won the competition in 2011 and has been part of the brand’s Super GT campaign in recent years, no longer has a spot in the factory GT500 GT-Rs for 2021.
One of the fastest closed-cockpit racing categories in the world, Super GT, has announced it will hold a special online event for its pro drivers, using Gran Turismo Sport.

This year, however, they spiced things up a bit, using the opportunity to show off what appears to be new concept artwork likely related to next year’s Gran Turismo Sport.
GT Academy champion Lucas Ordoñez scored his first Super GT victory in the series’ latest round at Thailand’s Chang International Circuit last weekend. Lucas and his teammate Kazuki Hoshino held off highly experienced driver Jorg Müller in the Studie BMW Z4 GT3 car.
Polyphony Digital hosted a special event at their Tokyo offices today which featured some friendly competition between Super GT drivers. The event was streamed live on NicoNico, and revealed the newest track coming to GT6: Circuito de la Sierra.
Lucas Ordonez, winner of the first-ever Nissan PlayStation GT Academy competition, will race in Japanese Super GT in 2014. After serving the ultimate Nismo apprenticeship – which has seen him take two international championship wins and two podium finishes at the Le Mans 24 Hours – the 28 year-old Spaniard will partner with Kazuki Hoshino in the NDDP Racing Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 in the GT300 class.
A Gran Turismo 6 competition was held at Sony’s booth during last month’s Tokyo Game Show, where Super GT driver Juichi Wakisaka took on three “gamer” challengers.
