Days after we learned that Nacon seems to have delayed Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown once more, pushing the title back to spring 2024, the publisher has announced a special online event on July 12 dedicated to the game.
Nacon has teased the event across its social media channels with a 25-second clip featuring “Vivian Hughes”, a member of the secretive in-universe “Radiant” organization, who refers to herself as “the organizer of the Solar Crown competition”.
Hughes (curiously also spelled as the much more French “Hugues”, but only in the YouTube video title) extends an invitation to TDU fans to tune into a 30-minute stream set to begin at 1700 UTC on Wednesday July 12 in which Nacon promises it will reveal some “unforgettable images” and “some real surprises”.
Officially called “TDU Connect”, the standalone show is separate from the usual Nacon Connect events and will focus on TDUSC alone. It will feature Alain Jarniou, the creative director at developer KT Racing, as the studio fills in some of the blanks.
One of those blanks will, hopefully, be a final launch date for the title. After being first revealed in July 2020, Solar Crown has slipped from a 2022 launch window to 2023, and now appears to have been pushed back once more to February/March 2024.
We may also see some of the first gameplay of the title, with the various teasers referring to invitations for “some of its most prestigious members” to drive in the first stages of the Solar Crown competition. That could give us a first insight into the nature of the two rival clans — the Sharps and the Streets — as they race off on TDUSC’s 1:1 recreation of Hong Kong Island.
You’ll be able to catch the full event on Nacon’s YouTube channel from 1700 UTC on Wednesday July 12. Whenever the title does finally reach stores, it’ll be available on PC and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.
