Another day, another new addition to Project CARS 2. Developer Slightly Mad Studios has been gifting us with reveals of new content coming to its upcoming sequel for the past few months. This one is sure to please many.
Ever since construction was completed on the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in 2012, it has become a favorite among drivers and fans alike. In fact, over 115,000 people watched the inaugural Formula 1 race. After the race, many of the F1 drivers expressed their enjoyment of the flow of the circuit. Other racing series took note and promptly decided to stage races and events at COTA. It now plays host to everything from Formula 1 to the American Le Mans series to even the Summer X Games.
Located just outside of Austin, Texas, the track features replica sections from other famous circuits around the world. The first sector of the lap features a section inspired by the Senna ‘S’ from the Interlagos circuit in Brazil, a track which is also set for inclusion in Project CARS 2.
This is followed by a set of fast-flowing chicanes akin to Silverstone’s Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel sequence. Later on in the lap, drivers experience a corner similar to the famous Turn 8 at the Istanbul Park Circuit and the bends from the arena section of Hockenheim.
But the track isn’t just a “best of” showcase for famous parts of other circuits. COTA has many unique features that add to the excitement of racing on the track in the real world, on a video game, or watching from the stands. The huge climb up to Turn 1 that can be seen in the picture above is a feature that can only be found at COTA, giving an overall elevation change of 133 ft.
The entirety of the track was deliberately designed with overtaking in mind and is very wide in almost every section. To further aid in overtaking, a kilometer-long (0.62 mile) straight enables drivers to reach speeds of well over 200 mph. This should result in some great battles on the track as you take on COTA in Project CARS 2!
The Circuit of the Americas can already be raced on in F1 2016, Forza Motorsport 6 and iRacing. Up until now however, PlayStation owners could only experience COTA in a Formula 1 game. The circuit’s inclusion in Project CARS 2 now means that all players will get a chance to try out the track in a variety of different motor sport categories.
