Thrustmaster has revealed the latest product in its driving peripheral range, with the new entry-level TH8S Shifter Add-On available for pre-order now ahead of first deliveries later this month.
It’s a cheaper alternative to the TH8A unit, but comes with many of the same features and is based on the same “HEART” — Hall Effect AccuRate Technology — sensor tech as the pricier model.
The design mimics Thrustmaster’s recent shift towards red outlines, as seen on the T248 and direct drive T818, so it should match the rest of your Thrustmaster equipment if you’re on console. However it’s also compatible with any other brand’s wheels if you’re on PC, coming with both DIN and USB connections and cables.
It’s available only as an H-pattern, 7+1 shifter — unlike the TH8A, which also has a sequential mode and faceplate. However Thrustmaster notes that the number of gears can be doubled, to allow for up to 14 forward gears if truck simulators are your thing.
There’s a shorter-throw on the shifter too compared to the TH8A, with the metal shaft coming in at just 1.6 inches (40mm) rather than the five-inch (130mm) item of the pricier model. That’s complemented with a TM-branded, modern sports-grip shifter instead of the classic ball item.
The unit comes with a desk clamp that can be hand-screwed onto any surface from 0.04 to 1.6 inches (1mm to 40mm) thick, with no tools required.
You can pre-order the TH8S now, ahead of an expected launch date towards the end of the month, for $/€69.99 (£59.99), which is a $130 saving compared to the TH8A.
