Toyota FT-86 II Concept Introduced in GT5 Video Trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caAW1oZXQnc

As you may recall, Toyota introduced the world to their first FT-86 and FT-86G concepts in these GT5 videos, but the company later put the real-world project on hold – until now. At this week’s Geneva Auto Show, Toyota has once again confirmed their intentions to produce the rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, and, once again, they’ve collaborated with Polyphony Digital to show off the car in the world of Gran Turismo.

There is, of course, little doubt this car will be coming to the GT series one day, but exactly when is still anyone’s guess. Thanks to jacoja06 and Patrick for the tip!

I owned a 86 corolla GT-S and looooove the car, wanted to throw a 20 valve engine in it, but some Kook hit me, and totaled it out. I saw the PT-86 in car and Driver and they were saying the PT is gonna cost in the 20,000-30,000 dollar range. Im not sure I want one yet, still in love with the AE86 chasis.

It’s my guess that car companies are going to start using GT5 to market concept cars before they release them to see consumer demand. (Online use/statistics). GT5 will be known as “The Real Concept Car Simulator”. J/k. But it would be cool. Now if only Mitsubishi would bring out a new GTO Twin Turbo/3000GT.

Cool. Now how about the updated VW Camper, the Bulli! Much rather have that in the game then old POS, err, hippy van that is in it.

While I prefer the lower nose and sleeker look of the original ft86 and the turbo G’s, I am so excited to see this revision as it is the next step to becoming a production car! I have seen videos of members of the design team saying that the cars stance would need to be higher if it were to go into production. And it still looks great.

You see those angles of the camera in this video?
That’s what I think the GT5 replays should look like.

      Me too…

Does anyone know if the FT-86 will have a Subaru / boxer motor? I read that the concepts used boxer motors.

If this is true, then I will keep my STI for the fall and winter and pick up an FT-86 for the spring and summer… best of both worlds!

cant take this dubbing anymooooooore, please stop this crap, we want no moooooooooooo-ooooooore. *cough*

  7. pasigiri

This is good. Hopefully there are some other cars being modeled along side this for downloadable content.

I think its great, Toyota needs to step it up and re-introduce some sports cars under its Toyota Label, Lexus is a different story.

hopefully they will keep with the original AE86 concept and keep this light, small powerful high revving engine and cheap. Not really liking the new look of this compared to the original concept car, looks like some useless vents and lights have made their way on to this car which to me is a bad sign.

How many concepts of the same car do they need, Either put it into production or don’t go on at us about it if its going into production then give it a place in the game, If its mearly a flight of fancy then it has no place in a real driving simulator, Mind you the sounds from its arsend are pretty rorty ill say that about it

I think you wanted to say “computer generated image” or “cgi” for short? in which case I would agree..

I hope they release this in the form of dlc pack with other cars and not a once of PR download from Toyota. As much as Im loving GT, It needs more vehicles. And I hope PD hasnt already got its head stuck in the clouds with Toyota and Nissan making hardware etc. Make a car pack, Kaz.

I hope it’s more than just the FT, give us new Lambo as well please

And why do these trailers get such awesome filters? Why can’t play with these filters? or drive around in photo mode cause clearly it can be done..

    1. Gran_Turismo

Its an in-engine cutscene. Its being doing using the GT5 engine, but its not real-time. Theoritically, these graphics can be done for the game, but you’d have to kiss your PS3 goodbye, as it mostly likely would explode from how much power it would need to run it.

    2. - Ice of SZRT -

Actually, GT3 and GT4 had replay cameras like a few of these. Besides the transitions that is…

    1. Big Ron

No, me too. I like the first concepts much more, especially the Sports Concept.

This one looks like nothing special, the front bumper looks odd in my opinion.

  13. G

The car looks awesome, Maybe in the first car update for GT5? Not saying its coming soon or even at all, but come on, we all know that oneday they’ll bring out an update with a few latest model cars in!

    1. iLex

The video of the Koenigsegg had nothing to do with GT5 afaik. It was just a presentation of a 3d modeler or something like that

You’re incorrect, the “86″ part came from another RWD car by Toyota which was actually there last one other then the Supra, which is the Corolla Levin and the Sprinter Trueno AE86. These 2 had the same chassis but the front design and tail-lights were designed differently. The Levin had fixed lights while the Trueno had the filp lights. Both of the cars has been used in the Popular Anime which is my favorite “Initial D”.

this combined with the lovely powerful, high reving and boundless tuning possibilities of the…….

      Subaru boxer engine…

      toybaru FT Impreza86.

    3. Jonathon

Last rwd car from Toyota was the ae86 other than Supra? What?

      Toyota chaser
      Toyota crown
      Toyota soarer
      Toyota aristo
      Toyota altezza

All after ae86 and I’m sure there are more I am forgetting. Back to school for you.

    4. pasigiri

      @Corey
I would have to say that the LFA is a successor to nothing. The Supra was awesome for it’s time, but the LFA is on another planet. It’s a TRUE super car.

    5. snaketus

Jonahthon lol! FT-86 is next generation AE86 confirmed by Toyota. Name “eight-six” “hachiroku” and lightweight nimble sports car that have rear wheel drive.

    6. Johan

      @Jonathon
All the cars you mention were not available in Europe, except for some of them under the Lexus brand, like the Altezza and Soarer.
