Toyota FT-86G Concept GT5 Trailer

Here’s a new clip of the Toyota FT-86G SPORTS Concept car in Gran Turismo 5. Considering the Tokyo Auto Salon – where GT is expected to make a big showing – is just hours away, assume this car will probably be playable in the latest demo. The video shows no new tracks, but we do get to see the car in the mysterious wind tunnel that’s been spotted in several GT5 clips now…

The smoke looks great, but I can see why it wouldn’t be there in GT5. It takes a lot of PS3 resources to generate that smoke.

I dont get why the tire sqeal can’t sound like that in the game. Or at least better than it does now. As sound in these games is (still) sample based, with a script deciding which samples will be played at each point in time I can’t see why they couldn’t make that better. It’s a case of upgrading the samples and probably add a bit more scripting. They have a department that should be capable of doing these things.

The wind tunnel is just a rendered scene. Why do you believe, it is in the game? Do you think, the fighter jets of the E3 trailer are in the game?

Kaz info, you can tune every part of the car, is a fact, you can find in every GT title. You can nearly set up everything for your cars. But I dont believe, they put in tuning parts for over 1000 cars.

Very nice smoke and sound are better, i believe these WILL be in game and that the video represents gameplay… I think that when the game comes out we will not talk for a year :-)

what’s holding this game up is everyone now bitching about skidmarks, if you want em that bad go look in your moms underwear!

  5. dennycrane1

I just don’t understand why they still haven’t put in skid marks. I mean cmon this is the most complex simulator ever made and they can’t add something as simple as skid marks? I just don’t get it.

Can’t complain about the sound of the car considering it is a subaru developed boxer engine. The fact that the car’s sound even resembles the original 86 is amazing, however I do want to know what the rev limit is; on the standart and FT86G turbo version.

This video is amazing. Probably the most revealing since the Madrid/Rome trailer. The level of detail is phenomenal. Pause it at the 00:30 mark, and you’ll see Polyphony has even rendered dandelions on the side of the track! Dandelions! The smoke as well! It doesn’t just fire out the back of the car, but it actually billows upward from the friction of the tarmac and tire! And I couldn’t help but to take not of the subtle gyration of the chassis at the 00:52 mark when both cars are doing a left-handed drift. I haven’t seen anything like this before. I already envision tuning every automobile in that wind tunnel to not only get performance data and modifications aspect, but also just to ‘ogle’ over my ride for the moment! I really think some of you have taken much for granted with the incoming barrage of GT5 info, harping on details insignificant until when we can ACTUALLY PLAY the game. Are we that unimpressed with the world around us that the graphical representation of these previews means nothing to us? Some fans.

    @maxpontiac

The Toyota FT 86 G comes with all that on it. So what you saw in the trailer, is what the car looks like once it leaves the Toyota factory.

  9. PeterWRC

DJcorrosive! What are you talking about? Impossible to do drift in the TT? The TCS on 7? Did you try to turn it off? Me and my friends doing drifting wiith both cars. No bother. Ok, the tuned is a bit hard, but good fun anyway. The demo is perfect for drift. That’s the and of the story:)

  10. circa1990

    Woot for better smoke shaders!
Wonder if the wind tunnel is just for the trailer or if it might be used for tuning or something maybe?

it can`t be 6 months for each car, otherwise that`d take 500 years, considering the fact that thy`re gonna put 1000 cars in GT5))))))

They do have more than 1 employee my friend

  12. Autavia

“Free floating” intercooler not good, but this modified front end looks sooo much better than the original FT86. This level of aerodynamic modifying would be a welcome bonus.
Visually speaking, though, i’d choose the ability to change wheelsize, and colors of both exterior and interior before modifying the shape.

  13. Slimer

    to hell with this game!!!!

LOW texture rez cloudss?! wtf man?! no SkId marks?! HELLO!? 500k polyGons!!!11 aw mah gahd! im telling my mom not to buy this game for me.

    /sarcasm

    @ Paulo
please dont tell me its tire marks…? i guess it is although i thought i did see tire marks…and they look fresh…
    @AMG

Why are people mentioning Fuji when this is clearly High Speed Ring

It’s a mix man.. Fuji ( Old version DoH!! ) is among the clips.. It’s updated ya ( graphic wise ) but not modelling wise ( tribunes are all over the place today ) just a thought!! on making it as real as possible.. then this sure miss some working hours.. Hahaha.. sorry for the sarcastic laughter .. It’s looking great yes, and it will work too, but not following the spirit of GT5 just yet!! !!

  16. NBH

Isn’t this another trailer using the GT5 engine rather than a GT5 replay? If so then the last one of the Toyota had better sounds and tyre smoke so I’m not getting any hopes up for the game actually looking like this.

I would love for GT5 to have a sort of GT-HIFI like in GT1 so when you are time trialing with just 1 track and 1 car it looks like this and the Ferrari clip from last year.

  17. blubb

WOW a new replay. I´m so excited! – NOT

Want the game and not more and more senseless videos, pics or interviews of KY with no information except the things that we will not get.

  18. mc959

^ i was thinking the same, this car has just been presented to public and
    it’s already in a GT-clip…

Ok i know they just need to rework the Toyota concept but still…

  20. Sentry23

Hmm.. @29 seconds in the clip, is that a dust/wind vortex on the grass on the left ?

    Anyway, it looks great..

  21. Razor

When we said that better smoke from tyres and good skidmarks would be really cool – you all said “its not needed”.But now all of you like this bette smoke.Thats the point, we need better effects (real effects, not stupidly overdone like in NFS:Shit) and it makes experience much better. The same story with skidmarks.

I want to do those 3rd gear power-to-the-ground tyre spins on my 800Hp Supra, and show that rubber to my online-friend driving behind me at the same time. This is nice and fun and we need it.

  22. Tomaz

I’VE JUST JIZZED IN MY PANTS!!!

    BIG TIME!

That is just awesome news. To shame with can’t see Porsche in all it’s glory. Fucking EA and Porsche, signing stupid millenium contract.

  23. Djcorrosive

Don’t understand what ur saying anyway.

But you cannot drift in the time trial demo! End of story.. It’s not possible

  24. Djcorrosive

Anyways professional, and simulation are the only ones u can drift on anyway, amature is shit for it. Like I said u need to look at things before u post VERY false information.

  25. Djcorrosive

Lol AMG u don’t know what u r talking about mate, u can’t drift cause u have R1 tires on the tuned car, and TC is on 7, u can’t drink in the 370z standard car with N1 tires because it doesn’t have enough power to hold a drift

  26. Djcorrosive

Time trial demo was not made for drifting! End of story.

If that smoke is in the game I’ll put a sock in it, but honestly I don’t think the smoke will even look like that! And tires won’t even sound like that. Sucks but it’s the reality of it all. I just don’t see it this time around, maybe in GT6 or GT7

  27. S3 Racer

    I love the car.
great replay. Why here in the clip drifting seems ok, in the tt was harder than it looks here?

  28. gtkiller

That was amazing! Smoke density was nice, not to mention the car models are looking great. I think the tuning part the game is going to awesome!

  29. DaveTheStalker

Skidmarks apparently do matter. That’s why other games have them. Plus the build up causes changes in grip. Surely, Kaz can’t be oblivious to that aspect of racing!

  30. [UK] ANDYW

Best teaser trailer yet for me.. smoke is perfect, visuals are impeccable.. can’t wait for some TAS info to trickle onto the internets!

  31. Djcorrosive

If only the tire sounds and smoke was actually like that in the real game! Shame it won’t be the case, these videos are glorified and polished so much which is just for viewing,

  32. Matt

    Unbelievable, amazing, enticing, crazy….

They have obviously poured themselves into this game. This is going to be unbelievably fun to play with a G27 come this summer. BRING IT ON!

  33. p37mac

Maybe the wind tunnel is the new view method in the garage? Cool engine noise. PD seem to be showing off their improved sound in these last few clips and demos, for good reason!

  34. AMG

KY said that you can tune every imaginable part of the car, also Aerodynamic tuning in the wind tunnel , engines ,turbos , elektronic chips, suspension , brakes, rims , spoilers , car weight , carwash , olie cange ….

  35. Paul

@AMG: because clouds totally ruin the in-game experience. Sorry if I sound standoff-ish but who cares about clouds and trees when its a RACING game, not a flight sim or a nature-viewer sim. Buy Afrika if you want photorealistic trees and clouds.

  36. Ben

    Hmm cool….

Looks like there was a decent amount of smoke coming out the back of the car…would be good if they made more smoke come out the back when you’re going sideways :)
