Kylotonn’s TT Isle of Man: Ride on The Edge has been pushed back from its initial release date. Provisionally set for November 2017, the news comes direct from the French developer’s Facebook page. Despite progress coming along well for the game, the decision has been made to delay until 2018.
The change of release date isn’t indefinite though and Kylotonn is now looking at a March release date next year. The team has identified an area of the title that it currently isn’t happy with, and it’s an important one.
In terms of the visuals and track environment, Ride on The Edge is looking on point. The post claims that the Snaefell Mountain Course is a perfect replica of the real deal. The technical challenge of the course is also represented in all its glory and judging by Kylotonn’s work on WRC 7 (read our review) this is believable. However, when it comes to actually driving the motorbikes around the track, it seems the game isn’t quite at the finish line.
As far as reasons go for delaying a game, this is understandable. It’s been a long time since a developer attempted to recreate the entire TT run, and as such, enjoyable physics are a must. With such a restricted focus in the game, the riding feel will be the deciding factor on how the game is received from both fans and critics.
There’s no denying that this delay is disappointing. Based on the last developer update, the game was getting a bit of traction from racing communities. For Kylotonn though, this could be a blessing in disguise. The remaining months of the year are packed with Project CARS 2 just releasing and GT Sport and Forza 7 to follow suit. Launching in March could buy the game a window of opportunity to attract potential buyers looking for a new experience.
With the dearth of worthwhile two-wheel racers this generation, Ride on The Edge should take all the time it needs. You can read the full delay statement on the official Facebook page.
