The Gran Turismo 5 Collector’s Edition was announced at E3, but now it seems that may not be the only special version of the game Sony has plans for. Speaking in an interview with IVG, head of Sony Computer Entertainment India Atindriya Bose clearly discloses that there are “two collector’s editions” in the works:
For GT5, there are two collector’s editions. One is the game plus some added content and collectibles, which (has already been announced), while the other is in a really big package with a lot of paraphernalia that goes beyond the game. It’s all car-related, but I’m unaware of the exact contents. That being so expensive, we may not directly order it from Europe, but we could bring in limited quantities from Sony in the Middle East. We’ll also be working with Mercedes in some way around the GT5 launch, but we’re yet to decide the specifics of that.
Product listings at Amazon.fr support his statements, including both the “standard” Collector’s Edition for €99.00 and a more mysterious “Gran Turismo 5 – édition ultime” listed at €189.95. Hopefully details for the “ultimate edition” will be finalized in time for the next round of GT5 revelations at Germany’s Gamescom next month…
UPDATE: An online Finnish retailer has also listed what appears to be the more expensive Collector’s Edition, referred to as the Gran Turismo 5 “Signature Edition”. Thanks to Myffe for the tip!

i think it is pathetic that some people on here are complaining about this ultimate edition because for those of you that do not know. the game also comes by itself. so if you dont want the ultimate edition then dont get it. you would still be able to choose from just the game alone or from the custom edition. what sony is doing is giving GT fans the opportunity to purchase some great items that would undoubtedly be available for only a short period of time. so people that really love GT or maybe just cars in general can have something to either learn more about cars and racing such as the book that is already confirmed in the CE or something to decorate their rooms with such as the diecast model car. maybe it would be something to help improve your gaming experience. so whatever it is its going to be cool. and if some people do not want it then there is still the regular game alone and the less expensive CE. we are being given a variety of choices of how we want to get our GT. so please dont complain about this. buy what you want and let other people go on with there day. see ya

ok so the regular collectors ed. will have a key chain, big book, voucher for 5 cars (not specified), and if u pre-order it from gamestop u get a voucher for an extra two cars (joey lagano’s gamestop cup car, and a mclaren f1 stealth model). now i think thats enogh for me.. lol.. what i think will be in the “Ultimate Edition” will be prob a psEYE, maybe 3D glasses, maybe an art work book.. idk for sure.. but its deff not gonna be an arai helmet because i race go karts personally and i have a simpson voyager (not too expensive and not as great as an arai) and that alone is more than $190.
Yup, I suspect it’s just a bunch of trinkets, or the eye and such you mention. Probably worth it if your a real die hard fan, but I’d rather spend the money on some of my other hobbies (model trains, RC cars, millitary collectables) that I know I will be satisfied with for years, rather than stuff I may very well forget about in six months.
GameStop knows nothing of the new version after making a few phone calls this morning at work…however… Its still not out of the question here in the US. GameStop, don’t know about other retailers, will call and let you know that an upgrade is available and will ask if you’d like to upgrade.
With the small number of these packages being available (so it seems) I don’t know why some believe it can’t happen here just because we’ve already started our preorders.
I think the crowd completly against it happening in the US are simply people that can’t afford it our are not willing to shell out that kind of money…which is perfectly fine…but to hope it doesn’t happen in the US simply because of that is retarded. Don’t be a jealous clown just because of the price tag, when there are some that would be willing to do it if the content suggested it was worth it.
Even without region coding I doubt this will even come to the states as we will only get the CE, the AU, EU and the Middle east might be getting three versions and doubt it will have anything that will be a add-on or extra for the game itself. All it is, is special extras that are dependant on the region. So this will be announced in the middle of Augast as Gemerscon, and then at the Tokyo Game Show Asia will get the Super Duper Edition pack that will include a actual GT SLS cost $50,000.
Sony and Poly would be dumb to bring this to the states now after all the pre-orders for the Regular version and especially the CE version.

Dunno, if others want to buy it that’s their right. If PD thinks they’ve got me hyped up enough to be one of them though, they’re going to be dissapointed. Three years ago I might have, but now I am not in any mood to reward sony and pd for years of slow development and shallow details.
I am a great fan of GT series. To the point where my personal car (Integra DC2 Type R-Core in Thailand is spec to the exact detail of GT4 setup!) I hope to get or actually be able to play the game in Nov, get my hands on a real collectable item such as a racing helmet (I drive on the streets with one on now due to the roll cage) or maybe DRIVING GLOVES….Key chains are cool but not as cool as Driving gloves or Helmet (Full Faced)

I wonder when we get the game would do we have to start off with standard cars and then work our way up to premium cars. I’m just wondering.
Depend on what they cost. I think the Suzuki Cap. isn’t that expensive.
The Ultimate edition will have a set of keys inside that belong to a Nissan GTR, gold plated of course. Also included will be a 12 foot statue of Kaz. To top it off, we will receive a bonus ingame feature that allows your car to shoot paintballs from your hood to knock opponents out of the way, ala NASCAR 98.
I don’t think they’ll put in a pair of 3D glasses in the UE, because I don’t think that there are that many people who will have a 3D TV by the time of the release date and all people who have a 3D TV will have a pair of 3D glasses… but a PSeye in the UE sounds more reasonable since you’re gonna have that “head tracking” feature.
Release date here in Nz is currently stamped on November 4 2010 (2 days after NA’s one is out).
Will have to wait for Gamescom for more news on both Collectors Edition.

I already have 2 of the “standard” CE waiting for me, and getting 2 of the special ones too if it comes near my country. I love CE versions of games i play a lot, and can’t wait to see what they will bring us in the special edition.

The wheel package wouldn’t work cause they would be losing money since wheels are expensive. I remember with prologue you could DS3 controller for $20 at release time. That was a good deal.

True about the wheel. I just picked up a force GT a few days ago, not the pro, and our BestBuy was charging $149.00 for it. They jacked the price right after E3 from somewhere around $130, so I figured I better replace my old wheel before it goes up any more in price. Given that, I could easily see money lost in a package deal.

It’s not exactly free if your paying a hundred more for it….
I do agree with others that it could include HD remakes of the previous games sort of like the God of War collection, but I do not think it will include the PlayStation Eye simply because if you recall the big thing at Sony’s E3 conference was the PlayStation Move which consequently requires the PlayStation Eye, so I can’t expect there to be an offering that includes the Eye when by the time this game is released Sony would theoretically expect every PS3 owner to already have an Eye because they would need it in order to have the Move. Which comes out in September by the way.
Also I do not think it would be a wheel, unless the wheel was signed, because from a purely money making perspective. The UCE wouldn’t include a wheel because that would be locking customers into a given wheel. This would mean then it would be harder for Sony to say hey buy the game and THEN also buy this super deluxe ultra expensive wheel. (A great wheel, yes, but also not cheap).
I definitely think it could also be another die-cast as others have suggested that and/or production stuff, i.e. documentaries or behind the scenes stuff.
Either way I need more info before I make the final call.

I don’t like when people act as if Sony is out to scam people out of their money. There is nothing wrong with any company trying to make honest money. Sony has always been fair, and sure if they jack the price up a bit for the special additional items, so be it. I think PD and Sony have earned every dollar they can make. The chances are high that I will purchase both collector’s editions, just to have them. No matter what anything collectible always over priced anyway.
RAugie, perhaps you can change your pre-order to pre-pay, and save about 20€? But then, biggers savings could be found elsewhere.

ok there are couple possibilities:
1- a wheel/game combo.
2- just a GT5 ps3 bundle w/GT5 colored ps3 and game.
3- a GT3 and GT4 recreation for the PS3 as a collection that comes with GT5 and some other goodies to make an outrageous price.
4- a gold edition which will come with all what the CE has plus all downloadable content free, a pass to go to polyphony studio and from who ever buys that gold edition 1 will win a special ps3 signed by kaz himself.
i personally would love to see a special GT5 wheel, i haven’t bought a new wheel since the GT4 driving force pro, so if they did it will be my next!

As for going “beyond the game” it leads me to think it might be some sort of art book, soundtrack and die cast model…
I’d buy it if it came with some decent dvds. Perhaps a making of, and a decent length (about 3 hour) documentary on the cars being tested. For example, you might see one of the team taking an enzo or a veyron for a spin. Or even a documentary on Kaz’s racing exploits.
I’d also buy it if it came with some Super Gt, nascar or wrc dvds. Kinda like those season reviews they have for f1. Would make sense to have something like that as those series are licensed.
Like I said, it would have to be something pretty special.

Car related could be a racing overall, the track day feature, a racing helmet… I don’t think it’s especially Mercedes, PD have worked very close with a lot of manufacturers (Nissan, Citroën, Peugeot, Ferrari etc.)

No. If that was true, amazon.fr wouldn’t sell the game without age restriction, as to drive one must be over 18 or something, depending on the country.
Guess, 18 is too young for an SLS. I had the opportunity to drive the Subaru WRX STi some weeks ago, and they refused to give it to people under 25
if its a track editor on other disc .. I would understand because it can be heavy if its a good software… maybe its the undisclosed feature of chris ! but for the other disc … behind the scenes .. making of ?? extras ..? gps thing .. ? maybe gran turismo noobies school ? online ??

I don’t think it’s the track editor. If they call it “Collector’s edition” it is probably nothing that will be useful in the game, but rather something that fans of the series wants to have, like gimmicks with Gran Turismo logos on, or a book about the development process of GT5 or something in the genre.
I hope this collector’s edition hasn’t nothing to do with some features in the game… I can’t spend 189€ because I don’t have them… I’ve waited 5 years and now they can’t tell me that i will play only a part of the game with the standard edition…
The more elaborate collector’s edition is going to be called the Signature Edition. It has a coffee table book, amongst other things,

I think it has something to do with the first packaging we saw. The mercedes video which showed three discs. It may include more premium cars but i can’t see how they can sell it for so much. If it is value for money i may consider buying it but not if it is a toy car and a keyring

True, 200/800 is close to having to admit they screwed up their production schedule (after having 50 cars already for Gt5P that included cockpits)
They started developing in 2004 (according to an interview with Kaz) so they had 3-4 years to model 50 cars for the Prologue release (December 2007). The full game will have 200 + premium cars, which means an additional 2-3 years to model the extra 150 cars. I don’t see where they screwed up the schedule?

Ehm… fail? So you think that there should only be one collector’s edition… because there are two types of cars in the game? That makes… sense. About gaming apartheid, you CAN play both premium and standard so there’s no apartheid there. You can also buy either of the two collector’s editions or just the game (or all three of them if you have all the cash in the world) so there is no segregation there. Just choose which one you want and get it. Quit whining.

I find it weird to pre-order something wich cost 190 Euros and not knowing what you are going to buy.
It also says that there is added content to the collectors editions, then there are a lot of people who can’t fully enjoy the game, I suppose.

This will suck if thats true, if couple of cars with interesting colours or rims, then ok, but if the game changes and there are some new stuff, and normal disc users wont able to use some cars/tracks/features or something like that.. this would make GT5 for me unplayable, I hate when developers do things like that.. hope PD wont..
I wouldn’t worry about extra tracks and cars, I’m confident that the “normal” GT5 will be the full game. What’s included in the special editions seems to be gimmicks outside of the game. Perhaps this latest package includes the “race-at-a-track-with-your-real-car-and-then-load-the-data-to-GT5-to-see-a-replay-of-the-race”-feature? Might be a racing overall or a Gran Turismo helm or something as well.
Normal copy for me, but still I will think about it! what PD offers to us is a mystery… :) I need to buy g25 or g27, so if something like that is in the box.. I’l take it… dont need no T-shirts or posters or toy cars… Im over that age!

Wouldn’t it be nice if PD would give us all the information now and not leave us in the dark awaiting! I have placed my order with play.com for the game now for over a year and I am not changing my order until we have a full confirmation.

I bought the ps3 only to drive with GT.
This is mere speculation but it could possibly be a bigger die cast car model hence the big package, or they may throw in a playstation eye for the headtracking gimmickry.
Yeah I think EYE is the most likely addition to it, but it would have to be more than that to warrent a $90 price hike wouldnt it?

to be fair, i wasn’t planning on getting the “regular” collector’s edition as i’m not fussed about die-cast models, and i already have a steering wheel.
having said that, i depends on what comes out of gamescon on what flavour of gt5 i get.

I can’t be completely certain, but the entire IndianVideoGamer.com site appears to be written entirely in perfect English, including the text of this interview. Regardless, as you can see, the statement is lengthy and detailed enough to rule out all but the most severe mis-translations.
Unfortunately, there isn’t enough information about the Ultimate Edition out yet to determine if it will be released in the US or not at this time.
Part of me hopes it isn’t. I already dropped ~280 on a G27, ~500 on an HD TV, and preordered the collectors edition. I don’t think I can afford to add another 100 dollars to the Gran(d) total. However much I may want it, I hope it is something I can live without. I just want my Collectors Edition book, die cast car, keychain (to replace my Forza CE keychain), and of course GT5.

I’m not sure JBO… I doubt that PD would leave cars out of the standard game even if it did mean an extra disc. To much time and money would be wasted on these extra premium cars as very few collectors editions would be sold compared to the standard game.

As much as I want GT5, 99 dollars is my limit for a videogame.. :( living within a budget suuucks. :D From the sound of it I have a feeling this deluxe will be some combination of the GT5 collectors edition plus a Logitech wheel or something like that.

From what I can see all of the games features will be in all versions. It’s extra things outside the game that you will get with the other editions like toy cars, booklets, etc.

Im in the same boat buddy, but I have a solution! Uninstall all your other games … I cant think of ANY game im going to be playing for ATLEAST a year once GT5 come outs, might not even play any of them again!
ho-ho i have a 120GB and i have a lot of downloaded games and seasons of house i can’t think of deleting them and re-downloading the games, but the game cant be bigger than 10GB right?
I think it could be GT racing helmet or GT racing gear. Maybe. You never know. Maybe a GT leather jacket. Who knows, I just went to Gamestop to update my GT5 Pre-Order and put in another 5$ to get this “Signature Edition.”
Fortunately it is very easy to install a bigger drive in the PS3, I chucked in a 320gb drive a while back. The biggest hassle is backing up your original drive and restoring it to the new one – you really need an external drive for that. If you have a 40 or 60gb PS3 I seriously recommend upgrading the drive to at least 250gb but I’ld go 500gb now – drives are getting cheaper all the time.
