Development on the critically-acclaimed Assetto Corsa began in 2011, and since then the game has received numerous updates. The latest of which having introduced several new vehicles, the introduction of “the best circuit in the world,” Brands Hatch, as well as updates to some of the core features of the game. But if there’s one thing that’s been noticeable despite all of the updates, it’s the quality of the tracks.
There’s a noticeable gap in quality between the likes of Mugello and Brands Hatch for example, or even the not-so-old Nurburgring and Imola; a gap Kunos is well aware of and are going to address in the upcoming 1.5 update for the game. Having shown off new images on their official Facebook page displaying updates made to all existing tracks and not just the oldest in the lineup, thanks to improved laser-scanning technology allowing them to more accurately recreate the environment alongside the track.
In addition to the laser-scanning improvements, Kunos have also changed their approach to texturing and track modelling which ultimately allows them to create a more immersive experience by way of creating more secondary details and trackside objects, 3D trees, camera-facing objects, and crowds—all of which will also be applied in the update.
With the console release drawing near, this couldn’t have come at a better time. And while the full list of changes and new features included in 1.5 haven’t been fully disclosed just yet, we know that pit strategies are also going to be included in the update.
Stay tuned to GTPlanet for the full reveal of everything included in 1.5, and be sure to stop by our Assetto Corsa sub-forum for more discussion and in-depth analysis.

As much as I used to love this game, I’ll be sticking with Iracing when it comes to serious online competitive racing. They still haven’t fixed the collisions with other cars, it feels very bad. The roads really don’t feel like they have any real bumps in them, just simulated feelings you might get, but not like Iracing.
You try and join an online game and half the time it says it’s full when it’s not. Then the other half the time there is content that even google somehow can’t find. Besides Nordschleife the other tracks are pretty bland. Most of the cars have too much grip don’t really feel planted on the ground.
The only real joy I can get out of this, is the drifting, and even that gets a bit old after a while.
When you do get into a race you find that most people have no idea what they are doing, or drive with a keyboard and just plain suck.
Sure Iracing is expensive, but the amount of satisfaction you get after learning how to drive a different car and track is just amazing. Every car in assetto corsa feels basically the same. Some have more grip and are faster when others have little bit less grip and are slow as hell. No feeling of weight, or actually driving a different car.
The graphics are nice, and the cars look cool, but that’s about all it has going for it right now.
You’ll be lucky if they release any great updates every year or more, and even then it’s not like omg they really improved on stuff, but more like small stuff that I usually don’t even notice.
It kicks project cars ass as well as that other one that’s out, but comes nothing close to the real deal of Iracing. I don’t work for Iracing but I have owned it for a very long time now with most cars and tracks bought. Only bad thing about that sim is that it’s like driving the real thing..as in it’s impossible at times and makes you want to throw yourself out the window.
Just my 2 cents.
Nice joke. You had me there for a while until I read, “every car in Assetto Corsa feels basically the same”, which tells me you have never played the game.
Wow bro pretty sure I’ve been playing around with this game since the beginning. Like what 4 of 5 years ago….yeah I can say for fact that the cars basically feel the same….I say basically because sure there are differences with the way they handle and grip and with speed…but overall the quality of this car and that car are the same. The main difference is how they look.
How about you go back to reading what I wrote and take it in. Oh wait you never played a real racing sim have you? Probably one of those people that cry in the corner going I don’t have enough money I live with mommy and daddy and can’t afford Iracing boohoo. How about you buy the current version of Live For Speed…that will show you how different cars actually behave very differently in a real sim. Assetto Corsa was fun as shit for a while, and I still like doing the drifting as I find that to be very challenging, but for pure racing or lapping I find it very boring and the same no matter what car or track I’m on.
That and the whole thing quality over quantity just got out of hand on the sim. Everyday there are 15 new cars that people put out, 99.99% of them being pretty damn unfun to drive and not even up to par with the game. Everything else is stolen off of over games and you can tell because they seem unfinished or just lazy.
There are a few cars in the game that are fun, but the rest are just whatever. I’d rather spend 500 bucks on iracing and get a whole bunch of different race cars and tracks, then pay a yearly subscription to race on real servers with serious racers(50 bucks a year if you wait till black friday or whatever it is) than pay 15 bucks or whatever for each DLC that just has different looking cars, some faster some slower, but overall like I said before they are just whatever.
You have your opinion and I have mine. I’ve driven over 100,000 laps in LFS, over 1500 official races in Iracing, and to date a few on assetto corsa…because for whatever reason they don’t let me join most of the races – even though there are free slots…..it’s just not user friendly.
I can tell you’ve never really driven a real sim racing game before and this is probably your first shot at it, but hey more power to you…think what you want, I’ll give you my 2 cents, take it or leave it.
I check here daily because I’m desperate for new GT news. Bruh. Why do they have to be so secretive?! I guess it’s part of the fun.
I’m so excited about AC, this is the title that will force me to buy a PS4.
You’ll miss out on some great mods for the PC
@Grippy, I’m sure It’s even more amazing on PC but i only do consoles. Tried Pcars on DS4 hated it’ . So AC is the only other sim racer besides GT sport to look forward to on PS4. From the research i have done AC is an amazing simulator when I found out it’ was coming to PS4 got so happy now I can have GT and AC on one console.
Kunos could save time & money by simply calling older tracks standard and newer tracks premium, but they choose to upgrade older tracks for consistency’s sake, kudos to them!
Indeed. Luckily they’re not like some companies in this genre and care more about quality than quantity.
The irony that the smallest sim dev does this and the largest one doesn’t.
Hmm will this be included on console relase or will it be added through update as well?
Everything up to the point of the console release will be included.
I don’t notice these things at all unless someone points them out but it’s a good thing nonetheless that Kunos is upgrading existing assets.
Kudos to Kunos
Wow, that’s just fantastic. The tracks in AC already feel so real, I can’t wait to try the updates!
Hugely looking forward to this on PS4!
