A very special event for racers of the digital world and real world alike will be taking place in Las Vegas this weekend. Ten of the fastest sim racers (who were decided from the ‘Road to Vegas’ championship) will hit the virtual asphalt along with 20 Formula E drivers all in an effort to obtain a piece of the $1,000,000 prize that is up for grabs in the Visa Vegas eRace.
All competitors are guaranteed to win at least $20,000, with the winner taking home $200,000. Another $25,000 can be earned by the driver who gets on pole position, and whoever achieves the fastest lap during the main race will gain an additional $10,000 as well.
Half of the competition’s sim racers come from a well known racing eSports group that many of us are familiar with: Team Redline. Dom Duhan, the team’s manager, acknowledges the high stakes and the pressure surrounding it. “It’s a new track, we haven’t seen it, and we’re only allowed 30 minutes practice, which means you’ve got to learn the track, get used to the pedals and the fixed setup in a limited time, so it’s going to be tricky,” he told Red Bull.
The 14-lap qualifying session and the 28-lap feature race will be streamed live this Saturday, January 7, on Twitch starting at 3 PM Pacific Standard Time. Good luck to all contenders!
