A few weeks back, some of the fastest drivers in sim racing descended upon Las Vegas for a chance to win big money in the Visa Vegas eRace. While the race itself was a controversial event in the spotlight, it did afford us the light-hearted entertainment above.
TNT sent its Inside The NBA hosts to the 2017 Consumer Entertainment Show, including legends Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, and Kenny Smith. As a taste of what was to come in the big, million-dollar race, the three retired NBA players—as well as co-host Ernie Johnson—were placed in a short two-lap exhibition. Despite a quick crash course of the controls by Formula E driver António Félix da Costa, the results were … well, we’ll let you see for yourself.
As funny as the race ends up being—it’s worth the watch just to see Shaq walk over the seat before trying to squeeze himself into the racing-style rig—it does serve as a reminder that, despite being “just games”, sim racing at the top level requires a significant amount of skill. These guys are some of the best at what they do, and even they can’t just hop in and immediately be competitive.
