Watch: Gran Turismo World Series Round 2 Nations Cup

Round 2 of the 2022 Gran Turismo World Series Nations Cup will be broadcast today, October 9, starting at 1300 UTC.

The second of the three online-only events in this season’s championship, and the third of five events in total, Round 2 is effectively the mid-point of the season.

Each of the four preliminary rounds awards World Series points: up to three apiece in the three online rounds, and up to six in August’s World Series Showdown. The points carry through to November’s World Final, which will offer considerably more points — up to 48 if the format of previous seasons continues — and the driver with the most points at the end of the season will be the 2022 champion.

Igor Fraga, the first winner of the GT World Series in 2018, currently leads the way courtesy of a brace of second-place finishes. Fraga followed countryman Lucas Bonelli home in Round 1 at Watkins Glen, and ended up as the closest observer to Kylian Drumont’s debut masterclass in the Showdown.

  1. Igor Fraga (Brazil) – 7 points
  2. Kylian Drumont (France) – 6 points
  3. Ryota Kokubun (Japan) – 4 points
  4. Lucas Bonelli (Brazil) – 4 points
  5. Baptiste Beauvois (France) – 3 points
  6. Jose Serrano (Spain) – 2 points
  7. Takuma Miyazono (Japan) – 1 point

Given Drumont’s performance, and his years of excelling in online races despite being too young to qualify, he’s likely to be a firm favorite for today’s race — but it is a particularly strong field with 12 World Series wins between them, and seven Nations and Manufacturers world titles..

Of the drivers to score points so far, only Takuma Miyazono is absent due to missing the Showdown with illness and therefore not qualifying for Rounds 2/3.

It’ll be a 12-lap race of Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, using the Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion. All cars will be using Racing Soft tires, and with a 4x tire wear rate — so each lap generates four laps’ worth of wear — a mandatory stop, and Inter/Wet tires available we’re not sure how the strategy or weather will play out..

The race will broadcast at 1300 UTC on Sunday October 9, and the drivers will have one more chance after this to score points ahead of the World Final in Round 3 later in the month.

Up until the broadcast starts, you can enter your guess for who will take victory on a special in-game portal called “Bonus Campaign“. Pick the winner and you’ll earn 500,000cr for your GT7 bank balance.
