“We Love Cars” Japanese GT5 Marketing Campaign Launches w/TV Commercial

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JI7lnkNf6_U

The official hype machine for Gran Turismo 5 is getting fired up, as PlayStation Japan launches their “We Love Cars” marketing campaign on Polyphony Digital’s home turf. Check out the new TV commercial above, or head on over to the somewhat confusing (for us non-Japanese speakers, at least) new “We Love Cars” website.

Of course, here at GTPlanet, we do, indeed, love cars, but what toy car first got you interested in everything automotive? Join the discussion in XEPEGTP’s thread in our forums!

    the video is well done
it have good phics and just excellent realism

now i realy see the price of the GT5
    it is realy cheap

when the gt4 came out it was some good 60 euros
than some 2 years later it was at 29euros and i bought it
I got tired after a long period(some good 3years of joy)
it was the lastest game i play on ps2.
im going to be sad after selling my ps2 and games
just because im not going to play anymore gt4
i got some good times with it :(

  2. nunocardoso

i dont know why but when i saw that i remember of rfactor
    with alot of cars
and it give me an idea
why dont create a gran turismo online for PC, like the EA did to NFS and HALO
but, with graphics like the gt4 but a litle better on the shape of the textures and shadows and alot more cars than rfactor

    i certanly would buy it
and i think that alot of people with good PC that are fans of GT Series and dont have ps3(and some dont have ps2) would like to have one for pc and to play online

this is my request to yamauchi

thank you for listen me :)

  3. Craigles

Nooooo!!!!!!! I just realised i have a GCSE in the same week as the gt5 release date. If only it was a motor vehcale studies exam.

  4. Magic Ayrton

I had a Model Porsche 930 (911 Turbo) as my first toy car in guards red, I was 5, was drawn to that car in particular! Now we have all these “cars” to try out come November. simply WOW!

  5. viejaloca

  7. deano

at the 11th second there is a green ford s max over at the right wall just before the we love cars symbol comes up and at the 7th second there is a bmw x6 in orange if wonder if there is a people carrier race in gt5.

  8. Mr Frappy

Just got an e-mail off my mate studying in Japan that he has been able to get hold of the public demo. He’s going to be sending over the Blu-ray from which I will be able to install it at home.

  9. Geo_212

Lol, at 0:12, I thought that car in the very front was a Porsche for a second… turns out it’s a blurry Mercedes. Dang it! :P

  10. SVT Cobra GT

I reckon the most important thing in that advert is when it says the November 3rd release date!

Plus it is one weird advert for a game! haha

  11. occasionalracer

Lol… when the “We Love Cars” logo came up, things started going terribly wrong. Damage system overload at 3 fps. Wonder how many times they tried this before they said, alright were sticking with that cut. Are commercials in Japan always this short?

    1. No_Me_Matez

      Me.

OMG THOSE ARE THE PREMIUMZ? THE DAMAGE IS PATHETIC AND THE ONES GOING OFF THE SLIDE ARE TOTaLLY UNREALISTIC. CRYYYYYYYYYYYY

      There.

  12. Pelle

One of the funniest commercials I have ever seen, even if the humour was unintended. I guess it was meant to get the potential customer all hyped up and enthusiastic! :D

  13. Yui-San

    New Cars I see:

    0:07 : Mercedes Benz 190E (race car)
0:08 : BMW X6 (M?) at the far right (red)
0:08.5: Nissan Skyline( BLRA-3) (Two of them)
0:10 (From left to right) Lexus GS350, Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano (China Rally/Expedition Edition, unkown van (Mitsubishi?)
0:10.9: Mini Cooper Clubman (yellow, far right)
    0:11 Benz SLK
    0:11.6 White Toyota Supra (right)

I would also like to point out that these cars are most likely those toy cars that comes with candies in Japan.

    1. Obli

Can we be sure that all the cars in the commercial are representative of what’s in game? I thought I could see a Ford Escort XR3i, haha. I’m sure I’m imagining things.

  14. blackjack

who thinks it’s real footage with model cars (perhaps the same scale of what’s included with the Signature Edition?) and who thinks it %100 CG with some digital shift tilt trickery?

    1. Johan

Beleive it is done the good ol’ way?
I do. It’s just gotta be the quicker way.
I mean programming and modelling v.s finding lots of 1:64 scale miniature automobiles, a huge tray to tip’em off’a, a slide, and a divider to keep’em onesixtyfours from crashing in to the camcorder set up on a low tripod below.

  15. Craigles

I watched this again and again.

I think definetly the american version is goin to have basicly all nascar and old muscle cars. But im not american so i dont really know what other things you like car related.

The british version (if not the same as USversiion) will proberly have tiny bits of each. It will have some f1 cars, wrc, definetly the top gear track, fast exotic cars and the nurburgring.

The japanese version had to be like that fun and no point what so ever.

    1. LIVEfromNY

sorry but all americans dont come from the swamps of alabama… most people in america drive foreign cars, and for good reason.

  16. dreadlockdragon

ha ha, i love this commercial!!! :D
anybody wanna add me to their friends list?
I would love 2 race against my GTP family
    roll on Nov.2nd, 3rd & 4th.

  17. JustSiDEWaYz

I just kept hitting play, but the game never loaded. LOL Loved the commercial tho. Wish we had commercials that short in the U.S.

  18. ChunKie

This commercial is targeting the younger kid audience, around 8-12 years old. GT5, also known as the serious and accurate “Real Driving Simulator”, is trying to advertise as being “Fun” and “Friendly”. Since most of the fan base are already in their mid teens or older, PD’s trying to reach out to the new younger audience to build up the fan base.

Funny, it makes us old people remember the days when we play with toy cars and make “vroom vroom” sounds. =DDD

  19. PhilmanGT

its funny that in that short vid. i spotted like 8 skylines, 3 evo x. looking at that little bit and the scale of 1000+ cars…its safe to say that at least 50 wil be skylines lol. Classic GT!! -_-

    1. PhilmanGT

Yeah i thought the same thing. its like a day later for europe since its like on the 4th or something. but they are practically a day ahead already

  20. GT-Fan157

LOL this was weird. How do they advertise things out there damn! Well this game can’t come soon enough. HURRY POLYPHONY DIGITAL. Thanks Kazonury Yamauchy .

After all this years, it’s coming.

A least I got everything on GT5P finished. Every medal gold & every track. Love it PD.

  21. NapoleonMikey

That Jingle is going to be stuck in my head for days. And it wont bother me one bit for once.

“We love cars, We love cars, la la la la laaa”

    1. Andre

That’s weird :-S F40 also was my favorite car, and did spark the passion for them during my youth :-| Are you my lost twin brother?!? :-D
Anyway, it still is one of the greatest car of all time, build right before cars start having stupid computers that spoiled all the fun! It must be pure raw joy to drive one of those…

    2. neema_t

Andre, I doubt you and DunavantJ are the only two who loved F40s when you were young. No, I know you weren’t because I did too, I had a Burago model of one, and an F50… Not sure which I’d prefer, the F1 derived F50 engine must have been something. Also from what I’ve read it would be less pure raw joy and more pure raw terror, especially given what they’re worth!

  22. Belph3gor

I see some old car, looked like Rambler? don’t remember if we had this on GT4.. there a ugly green van too at 0:10 at the right lol

  23. Sigmaviper11

WTF!? lmao, that was kind of funny. I’m glad they are getting their ad campaigns off the ground. Should be proof for most that the Nov. 2nd release is concrete. Well, ok. 2nd for NA. Still, its coming.

I kinda want some of those models.

  24. Red_9

If there’s one oddity about Sony’s marketing, it’s that they have decided to use Kevin Butler to sell the games rather than showing the games themselves. You’ll get a minute of Kevin Butler talking and maybe fifteen seconds of game footage if you’re lucky.

  25. D1 Motorsports

I think I see a Tata Nano at :07, white with a green stripe next to the Evo…I cant wait for my 43 minute lap of Nurburgring in that!

  26. JTSnooks

They sure have some strange programs/advertising. No game footage whatsoever, I’m assuming the US advertising will not be similar to the one above in any way.

    1. Rotard12a

Eh, not all that strange. I’ve seen a number of game commercials that feature no game footage.

As for for the marketing campaign not being used in the US, you’re right that it -probably- won’t be used, but still: If you listen, the lyrics are in English and don’t seem to have any accent. Also, if you go to the website, all of the images show people who pretty clearly aren’t Japanese. Finally, that “we love cars” logo has no trace of Japanese characters in it. Most Japanese advertising has at least some kind of subtext or something that is in kanji/romanji/etc. All of these things considered, it’s possible that this commercial/slogan will be used globally.

    1. Thor

I bought a Starion new in 1988. It was silver with black leather interior. Had it up to 135mph at Jones Beach. Wrecked it in a head on with a Lincoln. I really loved that car…

    2. Ads

I bought mine around 12 years ago and I loved it, it was written off when a taxi driver rammed me from behind at 80km/h while I was stopped at an intersection though GRRRRR.
Mine was red with beige leather, RIP.

    3. Aero-R

I’ve reached 220 kmh but only on highway. I do love this car so much, and it’s so rare where I do live, that I can’t put it on danger. I’m going to create the Starion Club in Spain if everything goes well. Months ago a car hit my front bumper while I was totally stopped in a parking, but lucky me I got him seconds later and now I’m in the process of getting the money from his insurance company to paint my front bumper again : )

Pictures on my personal picture album, at the forum !

    1. Mango

Go to YouTube and search for “inochi”. Then click the first video. That’s what I would call an interesting commercial.
