Following a leaked trailer last week, Project CARS 2 is now being officially teased on the Twitter account for the series. The countdown began on Saturday and it looks like come Wednesday we’ll have some sort of reveal for Slightly Mad Studios’ latest racer, given the cryptic numbers that have been appearing.
The first tweet included the number 4 with a fireworks and eyeball emoji. A night-time sky, dimly lit by the Aurora Borealis, is framed by trees. Not much is given away at this point:

The second tweet in this countdown, posted Sunday, gives us a further look at the weather shown in the leaked trailer. The focus here is on snow and the peculiar hashtag #AnytimeAnywhere. Could this hint that the focus on weather and time of day in Project CARS 2 may be a bit more far-reaching than the comparatively limited offerings of its main current-generation rivals?

Today’s teaser shows a more tame view of the race conditions being offered in Project CARS 2. Accompanied by a sun icon in the bottom right corner, we see a crisp looking environment which appears to be frosty, and bears more than a passing resemblance to Japan’s Fuji Speedway.
The actual tweet posted with the image preps players to “get ready for new challenges” along with the hashtag #ProRacing. This seems to allude to the eSports features that will be in the game from day 1 — including a driver rating system.

Slightly Mad Studios will be aiming to convert those who might have felt burned by the original game. At launch, the title was hindered by bugs and major problems in the default controller set-up, which made vehicles unnaturally difficult to control on consoles.
Project CARS 2 will need to remedy the first game’s blemishes to win back the general racing audience. To its credit, the first game sold well, exceeding 1 million copies sold in just a month after release before eventually doubling that amount last October.
With the promising leaked trailer and an official announcement seemingly on the horizon, it looks like PCARS2’s marketing campaign is about to pick up some pace. Don’t forget, 2015’s Project CARS is free on Xbox’s “Games With Gold” program this month. A perfect time for owners of the Microsoft console to board the hype train as we wait for further news on the sequel. We’ll report more as it comes in.
Project CARS 2 is expected to release later this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
