Codemasters is full speed ahead for F1 2017. If you haven’t heard already, this year’s entry will see the return of classic F1 machines. Last seen four years ago, the returning feature will contain a dozen classics from the last 30 years.
With several revealed over the past month, Codemasters brings us the ninth addition to the classic lineup.
1996 Williams FW18
Driven by the team of Damon and Hill and Jacques Villeneuve, the FW18 dominated the 1996 season. Designed by Patrick Head and Adrian Newey, the Williams gets its power from a 3.0-liter Renault V10 engine.
Winning 12 of the 16 races on the calendar, the FW18 was the most successful car on the 1996 grid. With a total eight wins to Jacques’ four, the Williams took Hill to his one and only Drivers’ Title.
Scoring 175 points in its time, the FW18 is one of the most successful F1 cars of the ’90s.
Cover Art Revealed
Additionally, Codemasters revealed the cover art for this year’s title. Following last year’s game, F1 2017 features unique cover designs for several countries. Besides the Americas, Australia, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg join the fun.
The main cover features Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen. Felipe Massa and Sergio Perez adorn the Americas cover, alongside Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.
The cover art for the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg takes the main cover and swaps Fernando Alonso for Stoffel Vandoorne. Finally, the Australian cover art has local hero Daniel Ricciardo subbing in for Verstappen.
The classic roster continues to grow for this year’s title. Previously revealed classics include four Ferraris, Red Bull’s RB6, Williams’ FW14B, and McLaren’s MP4/4.
F1 2017 releases on the weekend of the Belgian Grand Prix, August 25. It will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms.
