3. Lita Ford

probably in that order.

Probably the three greatest off the top of my head...

For creative talent/originality over performance:

Kate Bush
Joni Mitchell
Patti Smith
Carly Simon
Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins)
Sheryl Crow
Bjork

For performance over creative talent:

Tina Turner
Aretha Franklin
Blondie

Power-based (for me, anyway):
Ann Wilson
Celine Dion
Mariah Carey
Beyonce

I'd have said Beyonce as well, dont much pay attention to female artists like this.
Anyone who says Amy Whinehouse... :mischievous:

i like the whole soul/motown style she has, not the screwed up habit part lol

ermm lesse, beth from the gossip, lovefoxxx, pj harvey, brody dalle
theyr all a bit skanky but they have quite a uh interesting presence lol
oh yea and imogen heap

I agree with Patsy Kline, great singer and brings back memories of when I was a kid because my parents player her music all the time.

More modern I really like Duffy, but really the only female vocals I hear are in various electronica mixes.

Probably Kim Deal. Actually, yes. Kim Deal.

So many great female artists, though. Like an impossible number. Can't narrow it down who falls after Kim Deal.

Definitely Allison Krauss. She's the reason i listen to country music. In fact, i dont listen to country music at all, with her as an exception

If James Blunt and Amy Winehouse ever collaborated on a song, a musical black hole would form, eradicating all tonality from the world. I fear that day.

For pure performance ability, nothing could touch Aretha Franklin or Ella Fitzgerald...

I'd go for Joni Mitchell... as an example that good songs more than raw vocal power... make a lasting impression.

Bjork is another great creative talent... but more on the sonic side than the lyrical side... amazing things go on inside that weird little head.

Janis Joplin was just pure, raw, emotion... amazing vocals that still resonate till this day.

----

Amongst modern artists... I don't know... I like Shirley Manson's husky growl (Garbage)... and, I must confess... Macy Gray's quirky croaking... but nobody else really stands out, for me.

I'm going to bash you all over the head with women.

I don't know if this is going to make your computer explode. Let me know and I'll get rid of the embedded videos.

EDIT: OK, that didn't work so well, so just the links. Send your computer repair bills to somebody else.

And Top 5:

Kim Deal
Kim Gordon
Alison Mosshart
Mary Timony
Martina Topley Bird

Computer didn't quite explode, but Firefox refuses to respond to my scroll wheel so I had to use the scrollbar, then quick reply froze when I went to post this xD

As for the topic at hand, I'm going to disregard vocalists and say Gabriela of Rodrigo Y Gabriela for her amazing and rare Guitar skill.

Holy funk Klostrophobic..

Edit: Imogen Heap probably gets my vote BTW.

No wonder my laptop froze for half an hour. :dunce:
Well 🤬 you Klostrophobic for ruining the many threads that I wanted to read and post on GTP and for wasting my time. :grumpy:👎
And I'm serious about it!

The world would really be a better place if every band were fronted by a female vocalist.

While this may be part true ( depending on group ), I would have a problem listening to Pink Floyd , Zeppelin , AC/DC , Black Sabbath , Metallica with a female for a front person.

" Iron Woman " by Sabbath ?
" Back in Black " sung by a woman ? :nervous: :yuck:

I do like female vocalists , but some songs are better left sacred.

You obviously haven't heard The Cardigans cover Iron Man or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.

But you're right and I wasn't really serious. I just think I'm more likely to enjoy a band with a female vocalist.
