Frankly PD are woeful when it comes to commercialising Gran Turismo. As is proved by other games there's so much money to be made by giving drivers what they want with add-on packs for cars/tracks and subscriptions for unique features.

Though it will never happen and I have zero expectation PD will listen here's my wishlist for an "Endurance Racing pack" for which I'd happily pay an ongoing subscription or on a per-lobby basis. Interested to know the appetite for paying for packs/subscriptions and other endurance ideas.

Dedicated lobbies offering
Hosted by PD (Pick American/Europe or Asia)
low latency / low lag
24+ cars
Multi-class
Driver swap
1-24 hour single-lobby events
Disconnection & rejoin (or late joiner) protocol
Option to lock lobby to nominated drivers only
Custom Tyre rules, minimum laps per tyre - scrapped if deemed a Wet race
Qualification - able to set 1 lap shootout or multi-session Q1, Q2, Q3 etc. with less cars in each
Race Director/Steward Mode with ability to
Watch replays of any incident at any time
Issue custom penalties, time based, drive through, stop & go
Issue warnings to drivers leading to potential black flag / driver ban
Ability to give verbal instructions to a single or all drivers
Pit-stops
Ability to preset tyres/fuel load before a stop
Option to hold car before being released (allowing for real world toilet breaks!)
Keep ability to change TC/Brake Balance, check weather during stop
Option to change mind on tyres/fuel to rectify misclicks
Ghost cars if they crash in pit-lane, don't reset to main track, or at least allowing cars to re-enter the pits
Final times given for all cars, just just number of laps down, include lap count for DNF cars
Virtual Safety car, limits speed of cars when called
Safety car leading out pack or called in-race
Longer cooldown time to allow all cars to finish last lap for longer tracks (e.g. N24)
On screen air & track temperature
Race engineer, audibly advise on fuel load, tyre life and better heads up on potential weather changes, with AI could even help with basic suggestions on tyre strategies
Success ballast - custom weight penalties for drivers
Upload results to website for later analysis, saving lap times, tyres, qualy & finish times for each driver

So you want them to nickel and dime us?
I, for one am glad that we get free updates.

The whole point of their method is so that everyone has the opportunity to have the same things. Once you start getting into paid DLC, you may be forced to pay to just be competitive. That steals all of the fun out of the game.

While this is a great idea, this is not what Gran Turismo is about. It would be awesome if they gave us more control over online lobbies to make this happen.

iRacing is expensive for a reason.

Leaving aside the philosophical debate of whether Gran Turismo should be a hardcore racing sim or not, the more pertinent issue is PD couldn't implement and host all that without also charging a lot of money for it like iRacing does (probably more at base actually, since they couldn't force car/track purchases from everyone), which isn't a good look for a console-maker first-party game.
