I couldn't help myself. I know this isn't the most popular type of thread, but no one I work with really cares about cars enough to talk about this stuff (shameful, I know). Nonetheless, I just have to get this stuff out of my system.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo:
The hair on the back of my neck stands on end when I see this drive by. Envy? I think so. Intimidation? Not so much as a need to prove that somehow my car is better...and knowing that it's not. I take consolation in the fact that mine's not a Mitz, for however far that carries me.
Mazda MazdaSpeed Protoge:
Mazda is so carefully moving in the right direction. One release after the next.... I'd want them to move along faster, but it gives people time to appreciate the kind of great cars Mazda is making these days. Can't wait for the new MX-5...probably 8 years from now.
Porsche Cayenne S:
I still stand by my statement that this is a pointless vehicle. That said, it moves like a b!tch in heat. It is seriously imposing and has major road presence. It's also stylistically bland (outside of the Porsche-esque front end). I still don't want one, but I'm starting to understand the appeal: Only in America could something so over the top in so many categories sell so quickly.
Saturn Ion:
Can't stand this thing. I am glad to see, however, that there are twice as many Lancer Evo's on the road as there are Ion's. I only hope it stays that way. Someone has got to teach Saturn a thing or two-thousand about car design.
Subaru Impreza WRX 2004:
My jury's still out on this one. Yes, it's a better face, but sometimes character means being a little...different. It was bug-eyed, but not like the Neon (or so I insist). It was a face that was initially something I looked past, then grew to accept, and now kind of miss (despite seeing it every time I walk up to my car). It's that nostalgia creeping up on me. Must be connected to my recent interest in Muscle Cars....
Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet:
Cute. Girly. Not interested in it. I had a conversation with a co-worker about retro cars, and how this Beetle and the recent string of Ford's are really not retro. They're retro-ish; they're cars-that-make-you-think-it's-retro-but-it's-not. The GT40 is retro. The upcoming Mustang (this year's concept) is another great idea. A runaway from Woody Allen's "The Sleeper" is a poor excuse for a car. There was a reason a genuine Beetle was in that movie.
