Goodwood, one of the UK’s best-known automotive culture hotspots, is offering a pretty special prize bundle for an online competition in Gran Turismo Sport. Prizes include tickets for the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, a rally stage passenger experience, and a PC sim racing rig.
The competition, officially called the “Mastercard etrophy”, is free to enter, and the initial qualification stages take place over the next five weeks. All you have to do to take part is set the best time you can in the required time trial and upload your lap to social media for the Goodwood team to analyze.
Naturally, the first stage takes place at the game’s Goodwood Motor Circuit, host of the annual Goodwood Revival. The car, while it wouldn’t be eligible for the Revival in the real world, is a throwback too, to the days of F1 in the 1980s. In case you hadn’t guessed, that’s the Gran Turismo F1500T-A, and it’s no easy beast to chuck around a race track. The full regulations are below:
Mastercard Hot Laps Competition
- Arcade Mode, Time Trial
- Goodwood Motor Circuit (any time of day)
- Gran Turismo F1500T-A
- Tires: Racing Medium (default)
- Settings: Default
- Tuning: Prohibited
- Driving Assists: Allowed
Once you’ve set your best lap, you’ll need to upload it to social media — Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter — in full, with the event hashtag of #mastercardhotlaps in the post. The video must show the full lap from start to finish, but you can use any camera angle you wish.
Goodwood and Mastercard will then take the best 50 eligible laps for the next stage of the competition. This will be a series of heats staged across eight hour time slots from 1200-2000 UTC on June 6th and June 13th, to determine a final ten.
The ten finalists will then take part in a live shootout that will be streamed across Goodwood RRC’s social media channels and on-site at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed, as part of the racing action. It’s winner-take-all for the prize bundle, which consists of a Wednesday overnight stay for two at the Goodwood Hotel — along with pre-event drinks — and a pair of tickets for the Thursday media day at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, including a Rally Stage passenger experience.
In addition to the GWFOS experience, there’s also an “Ultimate Racing Bundle” which includes a PC, driving rig, wheel and pedals, screen, headset, keyboard, and mouse, and three one-on-one sim racing coaching sessions from a Williams Esports driving coach.
The competition is open to anyone aged 18 or over, so long as they aren’t a professional esports gamer. You can submit your lap times now, and at any time up to 2359 UTC on May 31.
