Kazunori Yamauchi accepted the Honor Award from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences last night, at a special awards gala held in Barcelona.
“Receiving this award in a city like Barcelona, which has seen the likes of Gaudi and Picasso, is very important to me,” said an emotional Yamauchi, as reported by PlayStation Spain.
Today, Kazunori was joined by original GT Academy champion Lucas Ordonez, signing memorabilia in the Gran Turismo booth at GameLab 2012. The booth will play host to the GT Academy 2012 Spanish National Finals, which will also take place this weekend.
Once again, good luck to all the finalists and GTPlanet members who will be competing, and congratulations to Kazunori Yamauchi for receiving this prestigious industry award!

Aww, did my comment(s) touch a few nerves?
Boo-flippin-hoo.
Damn, this dude is sooooo sorrrry.
he isn’t sorry..its just PMS.
No wonder Kaz won a prize. Trolling is a science, and an art.
lol well said.
Well Done Kaz, your deserve it the effort you’ve put into making your dreams before reality, but also helping other peoples dreams become reality too! (GT Academy). GT5 might not be the “BEST” product, but it certainly does some things a lot better than other competitors. Photomode for instance.
Now let’s hope GT6 can trumph GT5.
Congratulations monsieur Kazunori Yamauchi
Oh, and as for GT1-4 & Concept etc.; anything that came before GT5 must’ve had worse had worse graphics, meaning it too doesn’t warrant an honours award.
Awww aren’t you a cute little bean.
Given that 1-2 were on PS1 and 3-4 were on PS2 it’s pretty self explanitory in terms of graphics quality.
I’m gonna venture a guess that this is the first GT in the series you’ve played
He received an honors award?…for GT5!?
These people have clearly never played the game.
There’s no part of this game which warrants giving him an honors award.
Before you start whinging about the ‘awesome graphics’ or the cars in-game;
a) shadows and smoke detailing looks like it came from a gameboy, other peoples’ cars’ noises drown out yours, crashing at 200mph merely makes a small part of your car “warp” slightly, and frankly, I’ve never played Forza, but, based on perception, both Forza and NFS have much, MUCH, better cars to offer (with vinyl editing) and even the worst detailing in either of those games is better than a standard GT car.
And, the only reason I aint playing Forza is because I ain’t splashing out on a (cra**y console from Microsoft, when I have a PS3…and COD), and I’m not playing NFS, because my wii is being used to play a game, one whose developers DO develp an honors award…
Ocarina of Time.
So, Kaz, give it back and keep what little dignity you have left from your (ridiculous) game-postponing.
Good job opinion means nothing round here doesnt it :P
Is that whining I hear? Oh yes. Yes it is.
BTW. People who play CoD has nothing to say about quality…
As anyone who knows what quality is, wouldn’t waste their time playing such games.
What do you expect for £45 video game? your obviously the best video game designer on the planet and can’t stand someone doing well. In 10 years time people who play and love gt5 will look back and say it looks way off in terms of realism but in today’s league of games I’d say it’s up there if not better than other games. and I’ve played them. get your PC out and drawing pad and make something better. and then people can’t have a pop at you. grumpy old fart
Well done Kaz, very deserved!!
No matter how disappointing GT may seem it is still a great game. I’m aiming for a platinum trophy and it’s a great challenge. Kaz really deserves this award. If it wasn’t for Sony rushing its development we wouldn’t be complaining. Well done Kaz!
And then the flow of news stopped…
I think we would be moaning because Kaz was stated as saying he wanted another two years, which in theory would have meant GT5 would have been released some when in 2012!!!
At the end of the day its not just one game that has earnt him this award. You have GT1 – Gt5 as well as the prologues and the Geneva thingy in between and Tourist trophy as well as GT Academy which has proven to be really successful even if there still are a lot of doubting people around the world that still say it wont work. You have People that have raced in the most prestigious and Historic race Le Mans 3 years after sitting on their arses playing the game on a screen. He has earnt this award and I wish to congratulate Yamauchi San and his team as well as Lucas for what they have achieved..
It’s not JUST the video games why Kaz is seen as such a high figure. That’s what the jerks who are commenting, saying he shouldn’t have gotten an award or shouldn’t be getting recognition, don’t understand.
I think he’s done a great job …. Don’t know what you lot are moaning about !! You should be greatful … Could you create a game like this !!?? … I don’t think so !!!!!!
Well at least the replies had started out good. I was wondering how long it would take to decline though.
Congrats Kaz…
