I say that car qualifies, but I'll have to confer with the other judges. :)

This pic was from last winter... but it'll have to do for now...

I have some bad news guys, or is it good news?

I bought a new car with my tax return money.

A 1991 Buick Regal Custom, and I don't think it's crappy enough for me to be in anymore. :grumpy: or is it :D?

Pros
  • Only $1800
  • Only 65,000 miles
  • Has power everything
  • Has A/C
  • Drives really smooth
  • Great interior for being 14 years old
  • Not as slow as I thought it would be

Cons
  • Smells like smoke
  • Faded paint
  • The tachometer doesn't work, but it's automatic so doesn't really matter
  • The radio controls on steering wheel don't work
  • Makes a buzzing noise when the radio is on

I don't think that makes it crappy, but we'll see.

i bought a 1988 ford thunderbird for 1$ and it has a blown head gasket, leaks tranny and engine oil, burns engine oil, is rusty and runs worth crap. it is brown, yellow at 1 spot and has a crappy interior.

Blown head gasket? Hoqw can that be your daily driver? Isn't a head gasket required for driving? I mean I don't know much about engines, but a blown head gasket is not good at all.

Sorry man, the mob has spoken. 0-4-1. You're out. At least you upgraded. Feel good about that. I wish I could be kicked out... Maybe after college.

A blown headgasket provokes overheating of the engine.

I wish i could join this sweet club, but i have upgraded. My first auto was an

'89 Toyota HiLux (pick up for those of you not in the know)

22R, yes, not RE, this bad boy's got a 2bbl Carb!!! motor.
4spd, why? who knows, this truck actually should not exist in this configuration in 1989......
Cons:
-Now, it's got minor dents all over, mostly my fault.
-Front lower airdam had to be ripped off, due to a Doberman at 70mph. also, because that dog got in my way, my driver side front blinker bulp just hangs out of it's hole in the bumper. the plastic lens/bulb holder thingy shattered so i just let the bare bulb hang out of the hole in the crumpled bumper. ;)
-the exhuast is rusted away almost all the way back to the catalitic converter. the muffler is still in place. the exhaust gas actually goes up in to the left rear quarter panel, and comes out of the bed. you can tell in the winter mornings when white exhaust comes curling up from the lip of the bed.
-also, the exhaust makes it sound like, well, I call it the 'Angry Locust' now.
-The brakes are shot on all four corners. I have to pull the ebrake when coming to stops as to not put all the pressure on the front brakes.
-Interior shows it's age. bench seat is torn. but the dash is still okay.
-I don't let anyone but me drive it. I don't want them to get killed......
[edit] I forgot to mention, NO powersteering, and NO AC!! came like this from factory.[/edit]
[edit#2]I also forgot to mention bald tires and....wait for it...... a broken tailgate latch! so you have to open the tailgate with a flathead screwdriver by pushing in the catches one side at a time! man, i love that truck![/edit]

Pros:
-It's a Toyota. It won't die.
-2 10" subs stuffed behind the seat, and NO, it's not an extended cab. so i steer it with my knees  the stereo system is worth more than the whole truck!
-It's a stick. and the original clutch is still going after some 160,000 something miles, and me hotrodding the poor thing in highshcool.
-It's a Toyota, i said this already but can't emphasize(sp?) enough. My buddies ranger of exact age has had to have a new engine, new throw-out bearing assembly, and paint job. and new clutch.

BUT, like i said, i have upgraded since June of '04. Can i get an Honorary membership? I drove that truck since the summer of 1999. of course it wasn't in it's present shape when i got it from my dad on my 16th birthday. but i did drive the "Little Red Truck That Could" for nearly 5 years. So i know where you poor souls are coming from.

I've heard doberman's can be quite fast/aggressive. did you HIT the doberman? or did it run up to ur car and take a mouthful out of ur airdam and then run off? :P

Just the fact that it's basically my car in a truck form I'd say you just squeak by but yeah everything else will start to fall apart be for the damn thing stops running.👍

1982 Celica Supra P-Type 5 speed

pros...

$350
starts and runs really well
5m-ge
5 speed
refinished wheels
working sunroof
all the lights work
it's a toyota so it will not die

im scared to go fast because i think the hatch glass will pop out and hit the car behind me (rust)
299,000+ km's
front shocks are worn so the car "boats"
clutch is REALLY worn
the steering wheel shakes between 90-110km/h
the rear brakes are warped so the car vibrates when you press the brakes

indeed it looks very good, BUT,

my car did that, i thought it was normal for my model lolololol

A blown headgasket provokes overheating of the engine.
Actually, a blown headgasket is usually caused by overheating an engine, often after letting the coolant freeze and running the engine. This warps the head and puts a hole in the head gasket. After that, you lose compression, burn antifreeze, and the engine overheats regularly. :irked:

OK, there's a story to go with my crappy car. When I lost the timing belt on my '89 MX-6 Turbo, I went without (shared with my wife) for a few months. As I left to go to the airport at 4 am for a business trip one day, the timing belt in our 98 Camry came loose (no big deal, but no car at 4:00 am). But my wife was freaked out, and by the time I had landed in Denver, my father in law had called OUT OF THE BLUE and told my wife about a great deal he just ran across. And she said yes. And then he asked if she wanted to know what it was, and she said sure. SHE SAID YES before she even KNEW WHAT SHE WAS BUYING!! By the time I got home, I was SOL, and couldn't sell it and get my money back, so I've determined to run it into the ground. (PS--our marriage barely survived this incident). So, with no further ado,

1992 Nissan Stanza

Pros.
-Only 60k on it when we bought it.
-Power windows and locks.
-Cassette deck works fine.
-240SX engine.
-Decent mileage
-Actually really clean on the inside, and pretty clean on first inspection on the outside.

Cons.
-The piece of s*** nearly got me divorced.
-Only has 80k on it now (keep in mind, the sooner it dies, the sooner I get what I want. Or at least something I can choose myself!).
-I dug a hole in I-84 from Portland to Boise because the exhaust cover came half off and dragged the whole way (I still have it in my trunk. I had to jack the car up and tear it off so we could finish our trip).
-For the last 3 months I have been getting high every time I drive it because the injectors have been failing, and they wanted $1100 to fix it! So I've just been breathing gas instead. (I don't know if I have brain damage from that yet--they put ethanol in our gas in the winter)
-I just replaced the injectors myself finally(at 80k miles? WTH?), but it still smells the same as it did when the gas used to catch on fire under the hood--a disturbing, vague, something-is-burning-and-I-hope-its-not-MY-car type smell. But it IS my car. I wish it would just blow up. But I can't figure out what is (or why it is)burning.
-I just tried to replace the brakes because they were just starting to grind, and found that whoever replaced them last time placed a spot of weld next to the pad so it would seem to have failed to take advantage of the grandma that must have owned it before I did.
-I checked both wheels when I did the brakes, but the front right wheel always grinds when I back up (like it has from the day I involuntarily bought it).

So, that's it. I can't sell it within even $1000 of what it's worth, because it has these random problems I can't quite clear up, and I'm going to grad school in the fall, so I'm stuck with it for at least the next 3-4 years.

What do you think? Do I make the cut?

I know its not the strongest case in the world,

go easy on ur wife, 99% of women know as much about cars as we know about the inhabitants of planets that haven't been discovered yet... or maybe even less. i'm sure she relied on her dad to inspect the car, and its him you should be pissed at.

but simply for that comment i picked out i think u should be in :D

I have a 92 Plymouth Colt Vista Wagon

Pro's
It hasn't left me stranded more then 7 times

Con's
0-60 On a good day
average top speed 57
Automatic
Squeeling belts
Dead A/C
Leaks Oil like there's no tomorrow
Third Tranny build in three years
exaust has a hole in it
Sound's like a ricer, without the power
150,000 Miles

Tales from the crypt of the crappy car club Volume 1.

Ok yesterday i had to take my car for a spin, i decided to write up the 'experience'.

First i start it in the morning, runs fine. Then my mum needs to use it to go shopping, nuh uh 👎 it doesnt start. so my dad rings up and tells me i need to pick him up from the airport and my mum is like "it wont start" and i said " :sly: it will start for me..."

sure enough i get in (notice the passenger door was unlocked, nvm haha), put my hand on the wheel and turn the key. it starts first time. but i need some intricate right foot work to keep it started haha.

its cold and snowy so i try to heat up the rear window, that aint happening, so i try to remove the ice off the front window by trying the windscreen wiper spray... that aint happening either.

so i heat up the car sufficiently to heat up the windows so the ice melts and move off.

the drive was as normal until i approached a roundabout and noticed all the lights had come on (this has happened before and i knew the engine had cut out). realising that i had no brakes as a result of no engine, i threw it back into gear and lifted up the clutch, starting the engine just before i drove into the back of some mpv. :grumpy:

higher speed driving was as unpredictable as always, and i almost hit the kerb a few times cause i was monitoring all the leds.

if it wasn't so dangerous i'd think it was funny. but i think i need to get myself another car :grumpy:

I have an '86 Olds Cutlass Ciera Brougham

Pros:
It's only got 150,000 kms
It runs well enough
Aftermarket cd player installed by previous owner

Cons:
2 of 4 power locks don't work
3 of 4 power windows work
cruise control hasn't worked ever
no heat at all
you have to give it gas when starting and let it idle for 2 minutes giving it a bit of gas or it'll stall when you put it into gear
rear window is covered in skateboard and snowboard stickers that I thought were great when I bought the car a few years ago, but now wish weren't there
rust holes in the door pretty much ensure the car won't pass a safety inspection meaning it's almost worthless to another owner who'll have to spend as much money fixing the body work as the car is worth
one of the tires just won't stay inflated, and I've had it resealed twice
"possibly bent frame"
my sister calls it the 'blue box' which are the plastic bins we put our recyclable metals and glass in where I live, my car is also a nice dark/light blue color

What do you think? Can I join the club?

i like this thread, lets see if i qualify :)

1989 Mercury Sable GS

Pros:
It always starts, even when its like 2 out
Heat works good!
I like the color where it isnt rust
Its easy to work on/parts relatively cheap
The horn is loud/easy to scare people
It actually handles halfway decent

Cons:
It has 228,xxx miles
Its a V6, so gas mileage isnt the best
Its an auto, so its less fun
It doesnt have enough power to spin the tires on dry pavement
Girls laugh at it, and are afraid to ride in it
It has rust, alot
Rust so bad, if you have a glove you can reach through a hole and grab the lock rod and unlock the passenger door
The radio/speakers suck
One of the speaker grills on the dash rattles
The dash is cracked in like 10 places
Did I mention its rusty?
The hood is kind of smashed up from the latch failing on my dad a few years ago (insurance totaled the car because a hood wouldve been more then what the car is worth)
The headlights really suck
Theres a couple dents from somebody I know kicking it
The rear passenger strut mount squeks
The whole car shakes at highway speeds
On random occasions the heater smells like bo

Thats all I can think of for now, some things could be fixed, but they really dont bother me enough to justify spending money on it

I really need to finish working on my T/A so I can have something fun to drive!
