WRS'ers and their ride...

GRRRRR!!! I just had a NICE long post mostly written up, pictures and links and paragraphs, and then while loading up some more images in one of my too many tabs(Firefox), it suddenly quit without warning. And just as I was finally getting around to posting in here!

Argh.

Anywho, nothing about my cars yet, but I want to comment on your's Kent. Congrats on the new car! Should be able to drive it until you die considering the Toyota effect, sweet! Now, you say wheels and tint? I say springs and shocks too! They'll not only make it look MUCH better(I think it rides REALLY high stock), but it'll handle a lot better as well. You can get stuff these days that hardly ride stiffer than stock, but is lower and handles better. It'll complement the wheels greatly!

Anywho, when I have more time, again, I'll post my rides...

I'm considering that as of now but not too seriously.
Right now the Corolla doesn't handle as poorly as the motor trend types would have you think. :indiff:
With a weight of only 1188kg, I usually end up feeling like there is plenty of grip and control.

I still haven't pushed it hard though so I'm sure the infamous bump-steer of Corollas is there.

Wheels... Yes, I will surely get new wheels in time (although the stock hubcaps aren't too bad).
I would have bought a Corolla with the sport package so I could have the alloy wheels but financing wheels and a spoiler I don't want didn't seem like the right thing to do.

So for now wheels are priority 1.
Then brakes, then suspension.

I would rather get 4 wheel discs like the "XRS" than a new suspension.

However, if I decide that both are worth it, then maybe both will happen. :P
(*I doubt it though since a new suspension probably carries a hefty price  )

Meh, swapping over to discs all around is no small deal... Suspension is as "simple" as some springs, and shocks/struts, then the install. You could probably get some good stuff all installed for between 600-800. And your wheels will cost at least that much too, if you're going for anything decent anyway. Upgrading the brakes is usually good enough on the street by just getting higher performance pads and brake fluid. Or, if you don't get any fade while racing around from place to place, your stock stuff might be considered good enough, unless you want the pedal to feel different. 👍

I looked into new brakes for my car a couple of years ago and the list of things I could do was enormous! I was going to keep my calipers, get performance pads and get slotted rotors and it was about $1300AUD, drilled rotors was heaps more, but my car gets brake fade very easily so I wanted something like that....I decided it was too much at the time. He rattled off buckets of things I could do for my brakes though. I could have spent up to $5000 if I wanted

Truth be told, I would be better off going with the GT philosophy surrounding brakes- new tires = more grip = better braking.

Sad but true.
The thing is, I don't want to lose my ride quality by that much... I may do it though and I am sure the people at Toyota would be happy to help me out with that.
Tuning the Corolla would be super easy thanks to the XRS trim level's existance.

Question is:
Do I actually want to tune a Corolla?
Wheels and tires are one thing, brakes and suspension are something else. :D

I'm not going to mess with the engine- that's not what I am interested in.
I simply want to fill up some of the potential this car has thanks to its low weight.

So, first new wheels with the possibility of new tires. Then research brakes and suspension. :sly:

I doubt I will do any more than new wheels. 👍

Yeah, fair enough. My wheels and tyres cost me $3600AUD and although they were epxensive I've never regretted it, I love them :)

1998 Nissan Altima GXE

Engine: KA24DE
Estimated HP: 165
Estimated Torque: 165 ft. lb

The only things i've done to it (performance/appearance wise) are:
15" Alloy Wheels (Unsure on the brand, I got them used).
K&N High Performance Air Filter
Pioneer & Audiobahn 6-1/2" speakers

Miles at Purchase (December 2004): ~118,400
Miles now (February 2006): ~121,600

I only use it to go from college and back. Don't get me wrong though, I drive it hard :)

Also, I haven't had a single thing go wrong with it yet, so I can't complain. <3 Nissan!

Lets say we have a hypothetical race between members cars? Who would win?!

Scanning over the list I think Androos's Evolution VIII and one of VT's STi's would be well up the front dainbramage's 350z might get a look in too.

Depends on the type of racing. Those three probably couldn't wave a stick at GTrackd02's GT or my track FD in a straight line. As far as autocross, I would have my money on the EVO, STI, and dainbramage's civic. In a rally situation, hands down on the Suby's and Evo. When it comes down to a roadcourse, I doubt any vehicle would get close enough to my track FD. Cars that would fair decently in some of these races would be the RX-8, 350Z, and 200SX. Just my two cents.

200sx beating a Evo or STi on a track? Not in my book.

Although it could easily be done, I didn't say it would. I just said it would do well. And why not in your book? The 200SX is lighter then the Evo with a good suspension and brake setup.

Lol, well, if you're in America, the 200SX is a small FWD car, with the SR20DE in the SER form... That's why he may be confused. I definitely agree that a Silvia(aka, 240sx, 200sx, 180sx, etc...), modded nicely, can keep up...

Because an STi has amazing AWD capabilities with nearly 300hp, whereas the 200sx is basically a Sentra, FWD, and 115hp :-/ Who's the clown?

I agree with KLR.........a regular north american 240sx would have to be heavily modded to keep up. A japanese Silvia on the other hand would give an STI or EVO a run for it's money.

Speaking of giving EVOs a run for their money, anyone seen the EVO vs. Murcielago Top Gear comparison? Made me fall in love with that tuned EVO they had there!

Apparently you still. :dunce: Silvia == US 240SX body == UK 200SX body. Go back to your hole.

Australian Version (I assume Japanese) of 200sx.
For Sale here About 5 minutes away from me.

I've never seen the American Version. But I assume it's this...

And the Sentra = US 200SX. It would help to be more specific :P But I apologize, I didn't know the Silvia was also called the 200sx, as I thought it was just Silvia/240SX. Not being from australia/uk doesn't help :(

Well, if we want to get picky, :sly:, it's only the 1995-1998(9?) 2 door Sentra, the 4 doors were still called Sentras. And, back in the 80s, there was another 200SX sold in the US, which might've been the S12 Silvia? I'm not sure on that though, but I do know that it was a RWD small car. And then, in some markets, there is also the 180SX/Silvia, so it's 180SX/200SX/240SX/Silvia... I'm in the US too, it's all good though.

Post no.42 = UK 200sx (S13) 👍

Don't know if its quicker on track than an Evo or a Scooby. Better at drifting tho & IMO more fun thanks to rear wheel drive smile factor :)

Cool! I learn something new everyday, I never knew there was a US 200SX in the 80's as well.

It's not in the best shape, but I think this is what you're talking about:

Looks like a Silvia to me :)
Yeah, that looks like what would be a S11? There's also the next generation that they sold here too.

Anywho, here's my two main cars, lol, won't go into details just yet, but here are their galleries... 👍

Oh, I guess I have a thread on the 244 too that contains mostly everything, except for my incident last Tuesday where I did some major suspension/wheel damage... 👎 :ouch: http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=57077

And also an old, and not too recent Cardomain page with info on my 142: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/210640

haha, i dont care what car i drive as long as it gets u from point A to point B:sly:

things dont have to get better for me to buy a new car, as i probably wont anyway, i will only buy a new car when i either write it off in a high speed collision with a stationary bus, or if the engines explodes out of nowhere on a main highway. or if my mum smashes the front windscreen in a fit of rage with a blunt axe from the shed, and so on...

AHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAA

Had a visitor from England last week, and gave him a tour of the Bay Area, he took this picture of my Mazda up in the Marin Headlands overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge.

It's a 1995 Mazda Miata, that I bought a couple of years back for my wife to get to work in, but she took a job just 2 blocks away, so she walks and I get to keep this as my weekend toy!
It's in wonderful condition, has under 66,000 miles on it, and I've given it 4 new tyres, a new roof with a glass back panel and had the timing belt changed since I've had it, just to keep it in perfect shape for many years to come. It has the tan leather interior, tan top, extra speakers and the speakers in the headrests to go with the factory CD/cassette stereo and a wooden handbrake handle.

My daily driver is a company car, a 2004 Dodge Intrepid ES.
